fuck branding people. add serious meaning to a really simple idea and you make a shit ton of money.
― jaxon, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 08:02 (5 years ago) Permalink
Branding is important for a small struggling company that needs every edge it can get. The Google logo is anti-brand in exactly that sense: Our ideas are so good, we don't need a fancy-pants logo. However, Google is definitely brand-conscious at this stage. Note the disappearance of "Froogle", for instance. Pretty soon, YouTube will be Google YouTube and then Google Tube and then long after Google Video has been buried, just that.

froogle was mad gay
― jhøshea, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 18:42 (5 years ago) Permalink
Froogle was playful, mad gay or no. Google is long past the point of that kind of playfulness now.

(would be OK, esp at small size, but no good for the holiday variations)

Has Google always had a logo in the address bar or is this new as of today? (I'm talking about the lowercase "g.")

Yes, but it got changed today: http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2008-05-30-n48.html

Favicon. That's the word I was trying to think of. Anyway, I'd like to register my dislike of the new one. Divorced from the whole word, it just looks like a purple number 8.
― jaymc, Friday, 30 May 2008 18:35 (4 years ago) Permalink
oh wait google.com is an uppercase G but everything else is lowercase

Hmmm, that Favicon Picker seems to work for adding a favicon to bookmarks, but it doesn't change the default favicon in the address bar or on tabs when you open a website.

omg it rotates! :o
― Bloompsday (Trayce), Friday, 22 July 2011 09:18 (1 year ago) Permalink
not sure there are collisions - i think the way the wire is bent (and the way the virtual version is programmed) restricts the movements of each of the pivots so that the vanes can't collide. (grab the bog yellow thing and spin it - the big blue thing starts moving before collision can happen)
the lack of depth perception is confusing sometimes though.

I forwarded a letter to my senator about my opposition to the "Stop Online Piracy Act". I actually got an e-mail back (this stuff happened about a month ago). The letter back talked about why I shouldn't be concerned and how only foreign websites are going to be effected blah blah blah. Now I'm pissed off at my senator. Why couldn't he have just ignored my letter. I was also pissed off when I got a letter back in which my senator defended cuts to unemployment comp. I hate that he gets the last word

Got it. You have to change the program at the bottom so that the 5 digit target in the top right matches the number on the main tape. There are 6 levels, each one corresponding to a letter in 'Google', which lights up when you've figured out the sequence for that letter.
