I also enjoy almonds. salted or unsalted. My gf's oldies always have soaked almonds. Which is weird, but I still like.

Is this a comprehensive list of nuts? Are there no exotic nuts, like the chantarelle/truffle of nuts?

My dad and relatives still call Brazil nuts by this very racist name...I thought that's what they were actually named for a long time & was roundly criticized when I used the term in public at age 10.

Also, I think almonds get my vote, with macadamia and pistachio close behind. Dark chocolate covered almonds are a recent obsession of mine.

Macadamias are hella yum but way too $$$. They're pretty much unique in texture.

Me too! So I voted Other (Nuts). I only eat nuts if they come with beer, but not those nuts you get in bars because everyone knows they have at least 3 different types of urine in them.

When i was on the road, we would eat brazil nuts constantly. If someone would see us eating them, they would--without fail--tell us the same story.

If you're talking about eating straight-up nuts, not pecan pie or peanut butter etc., then I guess cashews or really good walnuts.

Where is the hazelnut love? Our local chocolatier makes a hazelnut square that's bittersweet choc layered with a thick hazelnut/choc paste. Oh lordy.

Marcona almonds are my new favorite (esp with rosemary) but they are very expensive so I don't get them very often. I tried to make some myself with ordinary raw almonds, olive oil and rosemary in a frying pan, but it didn't work out too well.

The racist brazil nut term was "N-word toes" which my father also used once in the 70s. He insisted that's what they were called though he knew "brazil nut" too.

Hazelnuts are the best nut to go with chocolate.

That "Namin' Nuts" thing w/C. Guest is like the best thing ever....I think it's a deleted scene even! "Pea...nut, cashew nut, pistachio nut, RED pistachio nut..." And the best thing abt it is none of them are technically nuts.

What are those flat almonds?

Those might be the Marcona almonds I mentioned. They are smooth (no rough brown skin like many almonds) and have oil on them, enough to be noticeable in a clear plastic bag.

These results are crazy! Cashews would be way bottom on my list. And yes hazelnuts are great also on their own. Pine nuts not so much, but still fantastic.

I just discovered pistachios in the last couple of weeks and NOM NOM NOM NOM.

If I don't consciously make a decision to stop, I could scarf a whole damn bag of pistachios. Is there any other foodstuff that's so conducive to non-stop eating?

WTF MAN BRAZILS RULE. Especially coated with yoghurt. If a nut ever deserved to be expunged from the face of the earth it is the walnut.

Bollocks. They're great. I don't have a bad word to say about any nuts.

Also due to their high polyunsaturated fat content, primarily omega-6, shelled Brazil nuts soon become rancid.

As a hater of brazil nuts, I wonder if this may be where my problem is.

this just seems like a good delay mechanism to me, so they last longer. you get a pleasing rhythm going, chewing while you're cracking.
