No "I've never heard of John Wayne" option?

Colonel Poo, Friday, 25 May 2007 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

I saw Chisum when it came out!

Mark G, Friday, 25 May 2007 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

That only looks right. If you say it out loud, it sounds wrong.

Mark G, Friday, 25 May 2007 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

xpost

Since he's been animatronically inserted into LOST, I figured that option was unnecessary.

Dr Morbius, Friday, 25 May 2007 14:26 (nineteen years ago)

ppl voting in this poll? THAT'LL BE THE DAY.

Dr Morbius, Friday, 25 May 2007 17:38 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't even seen half of these but I thought he was great in Quiet Man. After that I would have picked Liberty Valence or Searchers.

Hurting 2, Friday, 25 May 2007 18:35 (nineteen years ago)

True Grit, really? fond of self-parodies, remy?

Dr Morbius, Friday, 25 May 2007 18:47 (nineteen years ago)

sometimes

remy bean, Friday, 25 May 2007 18:58 (nineteen years ago)

is this thread prompted by it being John Wayne week on TCM?

Red River is the right answer, obv.

kenan, Friday, 25 May 2007 19:03 (nineteen years ago)

The Searchers is great, but it's too obvious to vote for.

kenan, Friday, 25 May 2007 19:14 (nineteen years ago)

i'm tempted to vote for HATARI! which is great, but i've got to go with liberty valance.

J.D., Friday, 25 May 2007 19:30 (nineteen years ago)

I keep eyeing the John Wayne DVDs in HMV. There are so many of them! Where to even begin....

No "Overland Stage Raiders", no credibility yadda yadda yadda:

Pashmina, Friday, 25 May 2007 23:28 (nineteen years ago)

I voted for "True Grit" anyway. I know it's not the best one, but it was the 1st John Wayne movie I saw when I was a kid (I was 4 when it was made!), I was completely spellbound by it, and can still recall some of the scenes from it.

Pashmina, Friday, 25 May 2007 23:34 (nineteen years ago)

no Conqueror, no credibility

cankles, Saturday, 26 May 2007 09:34 (nineteen years ago)

I figured someone of yr taste wd bring up the Genghis Khan cancer movie.

kenan, it's prompted by the centennial of his birth, which is today. Winterset, Iowa, is having a big birthplace shindig, altho he left when he was FOUR.

Dr Morbius, Saturday, 26 May 2007 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

i chose Rio Bravo for Stumpy.. although i'm kind of wary of the film after reading about its origins. apparently hawks/wayne collaborated to make a conservative response to "high noon," which wayne called something like "the most un-american things i've ever seen."

poortheatre, Sunday, 27 May 2007 04:55 (nineteen years ago)

I don't like Stagecoach. :(

:( but eh, it's not like the pacifist army actually shows up in "Rio Bravo", so easy enough to dismiss that stance as just another grumpy Hawks Work Ethic whimsy. It's still an awesome movie.

Wonder what they thought of "Angels With Dirty Faces"!

Herman G. Neuname, Monday, 28 May 2007 23:11 (nineteen years ago)

It occurs to me that there was no Sons of Katie Elder option ;_;

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Monday, 28 May 2007 23:16 (nineteen years ago)

mark s, Tuesday, 11 October 2016 16:49 (nine years ago)

Where was Brannigan???

Foster Twelvetrees (Ward Fowler), Wednesday, 12 October 2016 10:30 (nine years ago)

Under his toupee.

After canceling a couple other Henry Hathaway retro screenings, the NYFF is promising a 35mm 'scope print of North to Alaska tonight, which I haven't seen since it was on WABC's 4:30 Movie in the '70s. Whaddya think? Duke in a fistfight with Ernie Kovacs is not to be sneezed at.
