two-pieces always look better than one-pieces. though I like some retro-y one-pieces.

ian, Thursday, 17 May 2007 17:48 (nineteen years ago)

retro one piece yes. two pieces do not look good on me I don't think.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 17 May 2007 17:49 (nineteen years ago)

thanxxx for the add! ;-)

Steve Shasta, Thursday, 17 May 2007 17:49 (nineteen years ago)

honestly, I think I prefer two pieces on every body type because one pieces tend to do weird sausage-y things with the body.

horseshoe, Thursday, 17 May 2007 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

FLOSSIN'

sanskrit, Thursday, 17 May 2007 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

sanskrit, Thursday, 17 May 2007 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

remember when some model wore that crazy thing in an '80s SI swimsuit issue, and people were agape asking "what IS that?"

monokini people

sanskrit, Thursday, 17 May 2007 17:52 (nineteen years ago)

also, I do not understand bandeau tops. halter tops are the way to go.

That one might be a little too self-consciously vintagey for me, but I'm very fond of all the styles at www.mybabyjo.com.

And hibiscus in our hair? Done and done.

Laurel, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

Laurel - those suits are fantastic. I have also never worn bikinis and think I may have just found my summer 2007 swimsuit thanks to you.

ENBB, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

we can kick sand in the faces of overly-tanned girls in neon butt floss bikinis.

-- remy bean, Thursday, May 17, 2007 11:43 AM (30 minutes ago)

i really like it!

i haven't bought a new bathing suit in years and i feel a bit bewildered. i tried on a one-piece last week and the bottom part looked good but i have a bit too much going on "upstairs" for the top part. i lost a bunch of weight recently and maaaybe if i suck in my gut i can make a conservative bikini work.

get bent, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:18 (nineteen years ago)

I prefer to be either fully clothed or nude on the beach (ie, get ready, San Francisco).

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:18 (nineteen years ago)

jbr, i found a site recently (exelnt.com) that i might eventually order a "tankini" from if i can come up with the cash. they do suits with real underwire bra support.

lauren, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:33 (nineteen years ago)

I would swimming with all this white girls.

marilyn-style suit: y/n?

http://www.retrodress.com/images/ew117tn.jpg

get bent, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:38 (nineteen years ago)

Model is SECRET UGLEY?

TOMBOT, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

I like it but fear the Marilyn could potentially wind up looking like an old lady bathing suit.

ENBB, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:44 (nineteen years ago)

that's kinda what i'm thinking too.

get bent, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:45 (nineteen years ago)

that's a big problem with retro-style suits.

lauren, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:52 (nineteen years ago)

Fifties-style suits are admirably apt for women with hips and busts - what's not to like? I'm not too keen on the skirted ones, though.

Michael White, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:52 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, actual skirts are a bit much, plus when wet they just hang horribly and drip everywhere! The boy-cut suits with ruched fronts hold a little extra water too but at least they're sturdy enough not to sag, and there's not THAT much extra fabric.

Laurel, Thursday, 17 May 2007 20:01 (nineteen years ago)

x-post

The Marilyn suit looks like too much fabric on a skinny girl. Maybe it's the wrong size for her. If the model were bigger, the suit would look better IMHO. There's too much skirt on it; it makes the model look like she has no real curves underneath. The blouseyness of the top also seems like it's trying to make a flat girl look like she has something when she really has nothing up top. I thought swimsuits should show off curves, not cover them up!

How about the real Marilyn suit?

Steve Shasta, Thursday, 17 May 2007 20:07 (nineteen years ago)

I could wear my old speedoish thing to Thursday night drinx? does Zeitgeist have a dress code?

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 17 May 2007 20:10 (nineteen years ago)

Ehhh... it's not the most tolerant bar on that side of Market, YMMV... Might I recommend Martuni's just up Duboce at Market? From there you can crawl to Moby Dick, The Men's Room, etc.

Steve Shasta, Thursday, 17 May 2007 20:14 (nineteen years ago)

enough with horrible long billabong bullshit.

seriously

jergïns, Friday, 18 May 2007 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry, Lub! To be perfectly fair my taste runs to the absolute opposite of bling and/or maximum exposure, so clearly the plungey spangly hotness is meant for someone else!

Laurel, Friday, 18 May 2007 15:32 (nineteen years ago)

that's cool! I can see how the baby phat suit would not be for everyone, but I stand by my two-piece advocacy.

horseshoe, Friday, 18 May 2007 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

It's definitely easier to find cute two-pieces than one-pieces, and it's really time for me to replace my seventh grade athletic swimsuit since I am actually going to a beach next week, but I am currently thinking nothing will be flattering so better to cover up. Basically my stomach is not flat and I don't have the chest to make up for it. (IMO, the cutest suit on here is the black cherry one, but it would only work for someone with a tiny waist like the model.)

Maria, Friday, 18 May 2007 15:48 (nineteen years ago)

http://images.figleaves.com/product/220x308/r455575-p455610-front.jpg

Oh my. Somehow that picture gives the impression of nakedness more than a bikini would (though Wicked Weasel tries hard, cheeky little fella).

Mark C, Friday, 18 May 2007 15:48 (nineteen years ago)

That's the point. Basically it says "I HAS A BELLY BUT U CANT SEE IT".

Laurel, Friday, 18 May 2007 15:55 (nineteen years ago)

I like that the mybabyjo swimsuits all have tummy control. Sign o'quality.

Madchen, Friday, 18 May 2007 15:56 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeah, they're not kidding about that, either.

Laurel, Friday, 18 May 2007 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

I also think this wins:

Maria, Friday, 18 May 2007 19:26 (nineteen years ago)

WHOA Laurel that black lacy one is amazing!

YEAH ME TOO BUT YOU CAN'T GET IT WET WTF

Laurel, Friday, 18 May 2007 19:29 (nineteen years ago)

shit, that's the one that's "not fit for water." you should get it anyway and wear it everywhere. the office, the gym, the bar. so cute!

horseshoe, Friday, 18 May 2007 19:30 (nineteen years ago)

Oh why the tease? Oh 'swimsuit,' why?

Abbott, Friday, 18 May 2007 19:32 (nineteen years ago)

what happens when it gets wet??
disintegration?

rrrobyn, Friday, 18 May 2007 19:34 (nineteen years ago)

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Friday, 18 May 2007 19:34 (nineteen years ago)

I really like the blue one w/the wrap arounds, too.

Abbott, Friday, 18 May 2007 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

that would be my worry, yeah, otherwise I'd say just swim in it anyway.

xpost disintegration, I mean, not turning into a pumpkin. it would totally be worth turning into a pumpkin to wear that bathing suit.

horseshoe, Friday, 18 May 2007 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

The tan lines would really be something.

i wish there was a non-creepy way of telling you guys about the lady who is 8-9 months pregnant and has been hanging out at the pool by my office all week in a blue string bikini and how radiant and comfortable she looks. it really is something.

g®▲Ðұ, Friday, 18 May 2007 22:38 (nineteen years ago)

Pregnant women are often hot. That's not necessarily creepy.

gr@dy did u not see pregnant salma hayak on waht is awesome thread?

deej, Friday, 18 May 2007 23:14 (nineteen years ago)

That model for the blue suit looks like she's got some kind of flotation device on her chest. Better safe than sorry, I guess.

Beth Parker, Friday, 18 May 2007 23:17 (nineteen years ago)

I worked at a maternity clothing store so I could look at beautiful preggos. Sorry if that'screepy. But I was doing a good job with sales and i was the only one who could fit bras properly.

Abbott, Friday, 18 May 2007 23:38 (nineteen years ago)

thinking of ordering this one. i'm wary of ordering clothing through the mail but it's worth a shot since i haven't liked anything i've seen in stores.

that black one w/cherries(?) upthread is awesome

My pulse seriously quickened a bit when I saw that picture.

Sundar, Saturday, 19 May 2007 01:24 (nineteen years ago)

get bent you should order that one but only if you stand around the pool/beach in that pose

max, Saturday, 19 May 2007 01:32 (nineteen years ago)

to each his own, jbr, but those vintage-y suits up thread are a lot nicer than that bikini

bobby bedelia, Saturday, 19 May 2007 02:23 (nineteen years ago)

the cherry bikini is pretty cute.

i'm also thinking that i want to stay away from dark colors because they'll make my already ghostly skin look an even whiter shade of pale.

rrrobyn, Saturday, 19 May 2007 18:00 (nineteen years ago)

my suit came! and it looks good, way better than it does on that skanky model. maybe if i'm drunk enough on caipiroskas i'll take a pic on the beach in rio.

get bent, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 22:14 (nineteen years ago)

seven years pass...

I am married to an attractive woman with a nice figure. When we go to the beach, she wears a one-piece bathing suit. Her desire is to not to display her body in such a way as to draw attention to it. She wants to enjoy the sun in the wind, but she also desires to be modest. I think that a one-piece bathing suit is a good compromise and shows reasonable judgment.
