My teaching here is done. Now you must go out into the world and spread my word.

Still, who needs to be snarky? Such things need no comment.

Another example:

Conservapedia is a much-needed alternative to Wikipedia, which is increasingly anti-Christian and anti-American.

It's called objectivity, godboy.

StanM, Thursday, 1 March 2007 08:00 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't get it. Why does that Atlasphere thing have location fields for outside the US?

Also, conservapedia is brought to you by the Eagle Forum people, a.k.a. Andy Schlafly, son of Phyllis. Many of the entries are written by Andy, or copied & pasted out of dominionist home-school textbooks.

kingfish, Thursday, 1 March 2007 16:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Conservapedia bookmarked.

the bill clinton entry includes this paragraph:

A special prosecutor was named to investigate Clinton for allegations of impropriety in the Whitewater real-estate scandal, an investment of Clintons in a failed real estate venture. Although nothing came out of this investigation, and it turned out that Clinton actually lost money on his investment, one of the results of the investigation was that the special prosecutor turned to investigating other Clinton activities, one of which (the Monica Lewinsky scandal) resulted in an impeachment trial. Bill Clinton managed to serve two terms without botching the prosecution of two wars, manipulating intelligence, engaging in a systematic program of torture, or mishandling the federal response to flooding of a major American city. Obviously, he is the devil incarnate. Clinton also attempted to use the American military to kill Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda, an action which was properly seen as a mere attempt to distract the nation from the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

LOL

The entry for "Conservative" is a larf too. this thing shd be pretty entertaining in teh months to come. I await the arrival of the hen fap meme w/bated breath etc

I believe the site was an Awful Link of the Day, which might be why I haven't been able to access it for the week plus it's been up.

Some of the folks at Scienceblogs are having a bit of fun taking apart taking apart the tech claims of the site.

oh and then there's this: http://www.conservapedia.com/Examples_of_Bias_in_Wikipedia

kingfish, Thursday, 1 March 2007 18:25 (seventeen years ago) link

more fun with Conservapedia from Jon Swift and this guy:

What follows are the entire entries for two subjects, probably corrected since:

* Stalin

Josef Stalin was an atheist communist Russian dictator during World War II. He was defeated by Adolf Hitler, despite Hitler also being an atheist.

----

* Anything Goes
“Anything Goes” is the title of a 1934 musical production written by Cole Porter. Popular songs from the musical include “You’re the Top,” “I Get a Kick Out of You,” and “Anything Goes.”

Because Porter was a homosexual, we can conclude that ‘anything goes’ was also his philosophy of life. Many atheists have adopted the song as a description of their “moral” code.

^lawl.

According to those blog links, the paragraph on the holocaust ends with the statement "This is a very touchy subject for the Jews and is not often discussed amongst them." WTF, at the mind that would type such a statement in and hit submit!

oddest thing was the talk page for george w bush, which includes this:

Somebody deleted the body of this page and substituted a photo-- can anybody verify that this photo actually is President Bush? (Could we maybe print the photo as a thumbnail, and link to the large photo?)

I believe the photo is one of Prince Henry, who has recently taken up active duty in Iraq for the UK, in compliance with the anti-American notion that leaders and the sons of prominent and wealthy people should be involved in armed conflict for their country.

Pashmina, Friday, 2 March 2007 23:16 (seventeen years ago) link

UH...

Properly speaking, homosexuality does not exist among animals.... For reasons of survival, the reproductive instinct among animals is always directed towards an individual of the opposite sex. Therefore, an animal can never be homosexual as such. Nevertheless, the interaction of other instincts (particularly dominance) can result in behavior that appears to be homosexual. Such behavior cannot be equated with an animal homosexuality. All it means is that animal sexual behavior encompasses aspects beyond that of reproduction.

This place has been raided by Goons and scores of everyone else taking the piss, but when the original material has lobbed so far into self-parody, how does one tell the difference?

Poe's law: "Without the use of a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is impossible to make a parody of fundamentalism that someone won't mistake for the real thing."

http://www.conservapedia.com/Afrika_Korps

The Afrika Korps led by the brilliant Nazi Field Marshall Erwin Rommel were very feared. They routed the British Army and almost took Egypt from the British. They were finally defeated when America launched Operation Torch and forced them to surrender in 1973. Embracing as they did the principles of evolutionism and Darwinism, it is unsurprising that they believed in the inferiority of their countrymen.

Haha, I saw that, yes. do they have an entry on el_alamein, do you think? (no they don't, but omg, the entry for luftwaffe:

The Luftwaffe was the German air force. It was unmatched! The best men, the best training, the best equitment, the best guns, and the best airplanes! The Royal Air Force was no match for them and they picked and swated and destroyed the French Air Force. Its only competitor was the United States Air Force which had a hard time defeating it. It the Battle of Britian, the Luftwaffe lost a thousand planes and about 2000 men. This wasnt even a dent in the mighty air force of Germany. But just as all armys, it fell towards then end of World War II because of an insufficent amount of experince pilots to fly the planes.

http://www.conservapedia.com/Royal_Air_Force

here ya go, entire entry:

The Royal Air Force (RAF) is the flying branch of the British military. The RAF is most notably known for defending the British Isles against the German Luftwaffe during the early stages of World War II. The RAF, in World War II, was also known as "the thin blue line" due to having planes and men thinly spread out all over the British coast to defend against the Luftwaffe. The RAF was founded on April 1st, 1918, and is still in existence today, with just shy of 1000 aircraft in April of 2006.

That's it. it's like they took a homeschooler version of some Encarta-type cd rom encyclopedia circa 1993 and just dumped the entries in.

But still, that Luftwaffe entry is great. It's like an oral report given by an 8 year old after 30 mins of the History Channel.

My fave part of Conservapedia: [Removed Illegal Link] (point 17). In the first place, any first-year math student at uni knows that the complex numbers are simply R^2 with a special rule for multiplication, HARDLY an instance of "liberal fuzzy-non-logic". Secondly, the REAL conservative crackpots in math are the intuitionists, who grouse about proof-by-contradiction, NOT the complex numbers. The intuitionists have no issue whatsoever with the complex numbers, nor does any mathematician born after 1700 CE (yes, that's right, CE, not AD, you weirdos!)

If anything, Crackpotopedia is definitive proof that conservatives are all profoundly and fundamentally insane and in need of a severe beating with the corpse of Bertrand Russell.

Hrm. Said "illegal link" was the Conservapotopedia page on liberal biases in Wikipedia.

From Conservapedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Tired of the LIBERAL BIAS every time you search on Google and a Wikipedia page appears? Now it's time for the Conservatives to get our voice out on the internet!

Conservapedia began in November 2006, as the class project for a World History class of 58 advanced homeschooled and college-bound students meeting in New Jersey.

Conservapedia has since grown enormously, including contributors nationwide. Conservapedia already has over one-half the number of entries as the Oxford Dictionary of World History. Conservapedia is rapidly becoming one of the largest and most reliable online educational resources of its kind.

George W. Bush
From Conservapedia
Is the president of the United States of America. Republican. Was awared the office of President by a narrow decision of the U.S. Supreme court in 2000 in a disputed election race against Democratic candidate Al Gore. In 2004, George W. Bush won reelection by a popular margin of millions of votes, including a landslide victory in the State of Florida where the outcome had been so close in 2000. Democratic candidate John Kerry quickly conceded defeat the day after the election.

For many months after John Kerry conceded the outcome of the 2004 election to George W. Bush, some liberals continued to claim that the election had somehow been stolen by voter fraud. When Al Gore went on a speaking tour in 2006 to promote government controls over industry in the name of global warming, many liberal fans greeted him with the belief that he had actually won the election in 2000.

Citation needed, apparently copied from a 2nd grader's social studies report.

As far as I can tell it's impossible to register an account on Conservapedia.

Also:

Palestine Liberation Organization
From Conservapedia

The Palestine Liberation Organzation (PLO) is an organization attempting to establish an independent Palestinian state near Jerusalem. This group of Muslim extremists calls for the destruction of the Jewish state and claims to represent Mulsim Arabs living in Israeli- occupied areas like the West Bank and the Gaza strip. They also use violence and terrorism to achieve their goals. Like in 1983 in Beirut,Lebanon when these Muslim extremist of the PLO organizantion rammed a truck filled with explosives into the quarters of the American Marines stationed as peace keeping troops.

31g, Sunday, 4 March 2007 21:27 (seventeen years ago) link

They're not allowing new accounts, I assume due to rampant parodic editing by liberal vandals.
This may or may not be an example:
Fox news
Fox News was started in 1996 in response to the other cable news channels which all had obvious liberal biases. Because of this, Rupert Murdoch decided to start a real new channel which would tell the truth. The success of Fox news over every other news channel is because it is fair and balanced. [1] It has many people on it who work to spread truth such as Sean Hannity who is a great American. [2]. Fox News is best because instead of just telling you what to think, they only report the news unbiased and then allow the viewer to decide. [3].

In 2005 the White House selected Tony Snow from Fox News to be the new White House press secretary which was a great honor for Fox because it showed how well it was presenting the real truth instead of the fake liberal version. [4]

Not surprisingly, the writing at Boobpedia is at a significantly higher standard.
