Check with your co-workers. Especially if you were supposed to lock your computer when you left your desk, but didn't.

no, i want to fix it! the mouse thinks it's the right way up, ie i have to move it up and right to get the cursor to go down and left. argh! argh! i wasn't ehre when it happenhed (thank gawd, as it's not my computer) so dunno what actually happened but it's a nit annoying. i did a virus scan yesterday and there was nothing. i'm doing another one right now, it's found nothing so far. yes. i've tried turning it off and on again.

xpost i'm not at work, i just got home, it's my flatmate's pc.

Apparently, if you constantly wear glasses that invert everything, after a week you will see everything the right way up.

Or right click on the desktop and select "properties" then "settings" then "advanced" then "rotation" (that's what it is one mine anyway)

ONIMO's pet donkey jacket potato (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:13 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe your flatmate doesn't want you using the pc?

I think your flatmate's baby has been on the 'puter and changing the settings to make it easier to read from a lying-down-in-crib position.

press control & alt then arrow key.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:18 (nineteen years ago)

no, she's fine with me using the pc, she has a foxy little macbook that she uses. i came home and she told me it had gone weird and upsipde down but she had to run, she was just waiting for me to get home before she could leave so there's someone here with her baby. perhaps the computer is doing yoga.

xposts actually yeah, maybe it was him - every chance he gets he wants to play with the keyboard and the mouse... he's able to stand up now though, so why would he want it upside down? tp give us a taste of our own medicine maybe.

but but does it not make it a left click now it's upside down??!?

lol etc.

Turn the mouse around to solve this one.

10 years since I worked IT Support. Some things you never forget.

ONIMO's pet donkey jacket potato (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

but yeah it's one of the display settings, i think it's used for when say if you hang your monitor upside down or something, some can do 90 degrees rotation too in case you need to use your monitor portrait rather than landscape

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

who the hell does those things?

Sam rides the beat like a bicycle (Molly Jones), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:23 (nineteen years ago)

i tried the rotation thing but i don't have that option. wah!

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:24 (nineteen years ago)

Try all the other tabs in the advanced properties box, particularly anything specific to your gfx card.

Did you try the ctrl-alt-up arrow combination?

ONIMO's pet donkey jacket potato (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:26 (nineteen years ago)

Stand on your head.

C J (C J), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:26 (nineteen years ago)

turn the rest of the world upside down to match it.

THANK YOU

all is now right with the world. or upright, anyway.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

(Just don't let CJ stand on your head.)

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

except argh, i seem to have adapted really quickly to using the mouse "wrong" and now i keep moving it the wrong way... even though it was going in the "right" direction the whole time... my eyes have gone squiggly.

and thanks to all of you with suggestions or sarky comments, you are all lovely.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:29 (nineteen years ago)

I crush your head.

C J (C J), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

i mop up yr brain.

teh_kit returns! (g-kit), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:31 (nineteen years ago)

ctrl-alt-up arrow

this works? why can't i get my screen to switch then?

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:34 (nineteen years ago)

Your videocard driver has to support rotation.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

Why the hell would anyone need this option?!

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

Is it for Batmen?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:37 (nineteen years ago)

Disnae work for me, and I have all that fancy rotator stuff installed. xxpost - and i have my screen portrait-fashion.

ledge (ledge), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:37 (nineteen years ago)

maybe it's something to do with projectors, but i can't think what because surely the projector would have a v-flip option.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:46 (nineteen years ago)

Its for simulating one of those old style arcade machines with the mirror in them and the screen on a horizontal plane.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:48 (nineteen years ago)

You have to enable the hotkey thing to get it to work. It'll be in the options somewhere near where you can flip the screen. I just flipped mine 90 degrees to fuck with my brane.

ONIMO's pet donkey jacket potato (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:49 (nineteen years ago)

If you have a rotatable screen you may use this option

If you have a desk mounted screen on a counter you can use this to display to the person on the other side of the desk.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 16:00 (nineteen years ago)

If you have a desk mounted screen on a counter

Why would you need something to count your screens? Especially if it didn't need to go any higher than "one!"

Just because you've got an advanced degree in math, CJ, doesn't mean that some of us don't have difficulty counting up to one.

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 16:14 (nineteen years ago)

From Jim's link I can definitely see why he'd need a screen counter now.

C J (C J), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

haha, i've made mine go upside down now. i think i shall do this to mess with my bosses brane ;)
