Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 26 October 2006 22:45 (nineteen years ago)

what description do you need? They are worst/best political ads.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 27 October 2006 03:20 (nineteen years ago)

the first one up there i posted is an RNC ad against tennessee congressman harold ford jr. hardball and scarborough country et al are saying the ad is a racist maneuver on behalf of republicans because a white lady in the ad makes that "sexy cat lust" noise at/about him (ford is black). but there's also a black lady in the beginning of the ad saying she finds him attractive, so isn't it equal opportunity reverse sexism? anyway, it's very dumb, and if it's trying to reach the white anti-miscegenation vote, it makes no sense, because nobody who subscribes to that kind of racism would vote for him anyway.

the second one i posted is for arkansas' gubernatorial candidate, republican asa hutchinson, and in it he's hired the services of dozens of children to claim that when they grow up they want to be like democratic candidate mike beebe, that is to say a panderer/flip-flopper/everything republican politicians claim democratic politicians are, etc etc etc. NEVERMIND that getting kids to go on camera staking a political claim in a campaign ad is basically the sleaziest, most weasely political move any politician can make and therefore mind-bogglingly ironic/hypocritical.

the third one is CLASSIC GOP FEARMONGERING! check out the shadowy terrorist footage and ominous quotes from al-qaeda speeches. listen to the eerie ticking timebomb and heartbeat. FEEL your own pulse quicken. FEEL IT. surely that one has already been discussed here, somewhere? depressing, but not nearly as depressing as it might be if this didn't look to be (finally) the dem's year.

ath (ath), Friday, 27 October 2006 03:41 (nineteen years ago)

oh and Plains' ad is for another controversial arkansas vote, proposition CATFISH GRABBIN' which i'm gonna vote a big fat YES on, due to my strict partisan relationship with the OUTDOOR FUN party

ath (ath), Friday, 27 October 2006 03:46 (nineteen years ago)

also, God I hope John Tester wins.

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 27 October 2006 05:37 (nineteen years ago)

Apart from the Catfish Grabblin one this makes me so glad political ads aren't allowed over here.

The ad is quite funny.
When I die I get to pay more taxes.
He's right I do have too many guns.
I want to pay more taxes.
Let Canada deal with North Korea.
It shows how these weirdo commie Liberals hate society.
The pornographers support him because he is in favor of parading perverts and homosexuals in schools enslaving your children to homosexuality.
Vote American, not for some evil moolie wanting to impose Godless Communism on the hard working people of America.

ARGGGH DAMN BEER

i mean, 4 word descriptor or context or something

"This is the one racist-ass advert where Harold Ford gets solicited by crazy white bitches"

you get the idea.

yes, it's a good, soft-focus introductory ad for a dude who nobody knows and happens to be pretty good-looking

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 27 October 2006 05:45 (nineteen years ago)

i do like the "These are the stakes" bit, since it shows some guy demonstrating his sweet karate/hapkido moves in the background, tho i'm disappointed they don't have LBJ's other line from that original ad, about how we much love each other or we must die.

Wow, a lot of people just don't get it. You have short memories, maybe because you are young and stupid or old and foolish. A bunch of terrorist came over here and killed our fellow Americans. Stop being a bunch of pussies, you don't join the Army or Marines to eat fruit cake on drink wine on a sunny beach, you join to kill or be killed. We stop what were doing and do you think the Islamic terrorist will just say, "oh, ok, they left, lets leave them alone now" (cont.)

Linkins6 (33 minutes ago)
(cont) Wake up you idiots, they have been fighting wars for centuries, that is what they do and they will not stop in there efforts to kill us all if we don't collapse the network that keeps them together. You collapse it by introducing a better way. More men dies on the beaches of Normandy in one day (6,603) than have died in this entire war. I pray every night for those families who have made the ultimate sacrifice, don't dishonor them by giving up.

Shame on YouTube for deleting a comment that calls for oversite hearings into the lies and/or total incompetence of this president.

The Republican congress has been too chicken to have any real hearings; that's why Americans will kick them out of office in November.

Think about it...how much more intense must the real criticisms of Bush be if all you're seeing is what isn't censored by this corporate medium!???

I'm amused by the sheer number of candidates who stress their lack of experience as a GOOD THING because otherwise it'd be POLITICS AS USUAL and they're going to go to Washington and SHAKE THINGS UP.

Sheldon Whitehouse = shit!

roc u like a § (ex machina), Friday, 27 October 2006 20:05 (nineteen years ago)

Good ol' Pat Buchanan on MSNBC, on the really racist anti-Ford ads:

But look, I don't take this as racist at all. I think Michael is right. This is an attack on character. Harold Ford is a guy that likes Playboy bunnies. Almost all of them are white. He takes money from porn kings. You know, he's gonna -- he's against repealing the death tax...

One of the worst--turns out none of the men being portrayed by actors actually contributed to Casey and several gave Santorum money.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzthL0ATSQg

This one is insane--with the mushroom cloud between Casey and Ahmadinejad.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URoqGDU1

A response ad to Curt Weldon, who beat out Santorum and his "Lord of the Rings" quote for the weirdest soundbyte of the season--in a debate
with his opponent Joe Sestak, an admiral in the Navy, Weldon said he had put himself in harm's way as a volunteer fireman, stuck between an oil tanker and a refinery fire.

"Have you ever faced a similar situation, Joe, or are you always in the admiral's quarters, drinking out of your wine goblets and being waited on by your sailor servants?" Weldon asked.
