Jena (JenaP), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 20:04 (4 years ago) Permalink

ok i give up. WHAT DOES PREVED MEAN

Yawn (Wintermute), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 20:55 (4 years ago) Permalink

All I know is that '??????' is Russian for 'Hello', and this seems to be a derivation of some sort. So you have crazy Russian bear that says 'Hello!' Who comes up with this shit anyway?

Jena (JenaP), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 21:22 (4 years ago) Permalink

"Hi!" (informal). pa angliskii, you say more like "preevyet," I think, accent more on the second syllable.

dar1a g (daria g), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 21:30 (4 years ago) Permalink

But it's not "preevyet" -- the spelling's different.

I think PREVED = Russian "HI DERE," AOL speak, etc. some of the other spelling up there is weirdly phonetic, too.

xtof, Wednesday, 22 March 2006 02:22 (4 years ago) Permalink

also maybe "preved" to rhyme with "medved," russian for bear???

xtof, Wednesday, 22 March 2006 02:26 (4 years ago) Permalink

he is the medved who says preved!

it's first and foremost, illiterate nonsense, including the rest of the words. either by someone who claims to know russian or by someone who is as illiterate as any average american.

calvinist monk, Wednesday, 22 March 2006 18:25 (4 years ago) Permalink

that, or the Russian equivalent of AOL speak

Jena (JenaP), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 18:39 (4 years ago) Permalink

i'm pretty sure it's purposely illiterate nonesense, monk:

HI DERE

Right, 'preved' is distorted 'privet'=hi (rather than hallo). There is kind of fashion in Russia right now -- people invent funny distorted versions of Russian words. It began with just mocking bad grammar writing but soon transformed to more sophisticated distortions -- so the 'privet' sounds like 'prevet' but never like 'preveD'.

Preved = Privet in new russian slang. We use 'd' to express more emotion phonetically. If it was 't' it wouldnt sound that rough. Originally it was a picture of two people making love in the forest and the bear walking out from nowhere. Then, someone put a greeting on the picture, since its bear it speaks in a rougher way than a human being.

alexey russian, Wednesday, 5 April 2006 05:28 (4 years ago) Permalink

I don't get it, is everything supposed to be mispelled on purpose? Most of the Russian words here are spelled incorrectly, so ... is that on purpose or not?!
And it's "Privet" not "Preved".
