"Bloody Sunday" the film

Anyone see it? Should they have made it 30 years ago? Was the carnage solely borne so that James "Unfunny, Unsexy" Nesbitt could wander around the battlefields still wanting to know what love is and wanting BAFTA to show him a pile of metal?

It took two hours to reinforce all the steroetypes I already had re the British Army and the various Irish factions. Black Hawk Down did it better.

Unfortunately a long hot bath and a very comfortable new mattress made me fall asleep just over an hour into it. Is this my fault or James Nesbitt's?

It is the fault of HISTORY!

That's alright then.

(rush hour 1 was way better than rush hour 2)

(if jackie chan had succeeded senator george mitchell as chair of the peace talks, then HEADS WOULD HAVE BEEN KNOCKED TOGETHER!!)

I agree with pete and wish to add that there's nothing clever in jerky camera work.

I thought this was going to be about the movie where Peter Finch kisses a man.

eight years pass...

I was pretty moved watching the reactions in Londonderry on the news. Well played all round.

They played some of the victims famillies' statements on NPR...overwhelmingly moving. Great day for them.

three years pass...

Just watched this movie for the first time today and its odd reading all these negative comments to this film from years ago. If you find political cinema kinda frivolous or even offensive perhaps, thats fair enough but criticising a film for not bringing these issues to light when the event happened seems a tad unfair. It simply wouldnt have been made back then.

I dont feel it reinforced any stereotype either. The British soldiers dont come across as evil villians just scared, out-of-their-depth, macho and a bit thick.
