I feel both obliged to go and totally disinterested in going.

You are a braver man than I. And yes, go.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 22:57 (7 years ago) Permalink

Only if you will come with me and hold my hand during the scary parts.

Like when the moths fly around the camera?

i bet they fought over the role of torgo

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 26 January 2006 00:24 (7 years ago) Permalink

is the hauntingly catchy but creepy torgo theme played live?

Dom iNut (donut), Thursday, 26 January 2006 00:37 (7 years ago) Permalink

Yes, all the music is played live by members of Blitzen Trappen (or whatever they're called).

I'll see this the same day I see Tony 'n Tina's Wedding.

You are a theatre nut!

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 26 January 2006 07:41 (7 years ago) Permalink

A nut.

I saw this tonight. It was, actually, much better than I expected. For the most part, they didn't play things too broadly. Torgo was pretty good, Mike was great with his constant constipated look, the cop was fantastic, and the wife catfight was a delight (especially since two of the four wives were played by men). Music was aces, although not enough of the haunting "Torgo's Theme" for my taste, plus they didn't include that little up-and-down-a-scale piano riff. They did a terrific job with the awkwardness and totally off pacing in the original. And they managed to make it under an hour without cutting anything noticeable (except, you know, 15 minutes of driving montage).

There were no MST3K jokes included, which is fine, although I really ached for the "have I told you about my five year plan?" monologue at the end.

Anyway Ned you should have come up for this, it would have been worth it. Plus you like Portland.

I didn't see this until now! I wanna come down for it!

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Saturday, 4 February 2006 09:09 (7 years ago) Permalink

Well, I think tomorrow is the last day, and they were turning away people at the door (you can order tickets online, though).

Alas! Maybe there can be a summer revival (I'm starting to consider a brief visit in early July).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 4 February 2006 15:15 (7 years ago) Permalink

Ha, I wish I could see this.

JTS (JTS), Saturday, 4 February 2006 17:53 (7 years ago) Permalink

Check in, at some point this summer I might be going to Edinburgh.

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 4 February 2006 22:45 (7 years ago) Permalink

a summer revival...and a tour? But the master wouldn't approve. (or would he???)

Ah, the joys of checking your referral logs...

(Checking the website, you were the other guy [the "straight man", as it were] in the opening acts, right?)

Diane Mahree - April 12, 1940 - December 30, 2007

I just wanted to write a few words about my mother, Diane Mahree. My Mom was one in a million, a very well respected and proud woman, with good values who was dedicated to her family and loved life.

Most people on the Web will remember her as the character Margaret in the cult classic film Manos the Hands of Fate. While many laughed at aspects of this film, I always felt her performance was the redeeming quality, and that she brought tenderness to what many said was just a "B-Movie" role.

The outpouring of support from fans of Manos and of the show Mystery Science Theater has been tremendous. I wish Mom was around to see how many fans have sent flowers and given well wishes to my family. Thank You for keeping us in our thoughts. We appreciate everything you've done. Mom would be proud.

Love,
Ruth Mahree Fletcher

i find the film strangely comforting to watch when i am feeling distressed about stuff. something about michael's constant barking, the jazzy soundtrack, the long pauses and stilted dialogue...

Yeah, even the MST3K version of this is very tranquilizing to me.

Meanwhile, John McCain’s best friend for life, wee Sen. Lindsey Graham, is joining in, playing, as ever, the Torgo to McCain’s Master. He is joining in the filibuster threats and making sure that everyone knows that he blames Barack Obama for the attack in Benghazi.

ghost rider ftw
