imaginative presents

After struggling for ages to get my dad a xmas present (yes, it is a bit late isn't it), i struck on just duplicating what i did for my (ex)g-friends last birthday, which is Tea at the Ritz. They do vouchers you know. Yes, this isn't THAT imaginative, and yes it is a great way to pay an immense amount of money to rick fuXoRs for tiny sandwiches, but it was fun. (actually i took g-friend to savoy, cos she's a more 'savoy' sort of person than a 'ritz', and savoy don't do vouchers.)

please share your imaginative gift ideas, and i don't mean those WHSmith pre-packed snow-boarding and spa-weekend thingies neither. This is cos i'm rubbish at thinking them up myself. and my dad is impossible to buy "things" for. we have very little in common, taste-wise.

The Body Shop do these really good baskets full of smelly stuff. Not too pricey and I've never seen anyone who hasn't enjoyed getting one of them.

A flying lesson.Just the one mind.

Those WH Smith pre packaged things are about the only thing that has raised a smile from me today (I'm having a particularly glarey day) as I have to go past WHS to get to our other building and the display in the window has a pre packaged thing called 'EXPERIENCE WATERSPORTS' snigger snigger.

Brekkie at the Hilton's pretty good, 'cos the restaurant's on the top floor about 10,100 feet up or summat, and you can look down through the clouds and see the London Eye, St.Paul's, Houses of Parliament, Big Ben etc. Plus the ketchup comes in jars which is dead sophisticated.

Pete, Body Shop produce cannot really be placed under the heading of 'imaginative presents' can it? Nice as it is.

Au contraire, I would say that having languished in present no-go land for some years after so quickly becoming boring, a Body Shop basket would now seem quite unusual and original and even retro.

However my razor sharp intellect tells me this isn't what Pete was getting at and he was in fact being sarky.

I've never been given soaps and bubble barf and stuff like that, and would love it. Also the raffia can be used to make a faux birds nest for incubating eggs you have stolen from the mama birds nests, eventually leading to you having your own pet Blue Tit which will follow you wherever you go. Aaah.

Being in the habit of consuming full english breakfasts, pad thai prawn noodles, and sri lankan buffets for lunch, I may very soon have my own pair of tits following me wherever I go.

I took a small plastic doll, whose packaging described it as' Darling Baby', removed it from said packaging, and set it alight, so that it melted and I ended up with a lump of contorted plastic, still recognisable as a doll, yet hideous. I replaced the cooled 'baby' back into the original packaging and gave it to a friend.

seven years pass...

Is there any imaginative products that any of you can think of, that you actually want? Preferably less than $50 (£30.70)
I'm brainstorming gift ideas for "cool" people.

i would so wear that shirt! plaid and purple are a couple of my favorite things.

having trouble coming up with a gift for mom because she fundamentally doesn't like *stuff.* we're visiting relatives in philadelphia for new year's, any ticket/gift certificate ideas for cool stuff there?

Maria, Friday, 18 December 2009 18:37 (fourteen years ago) link

Does she like looking at art? You could visit the Barnes collection.

Jaq, Friday, 18 December 2009 18:46 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't think straight guys should be caught wearing purple or pink in most cases - is this response bigoted? whatever.

I watch Survivor with my family every year (yeah I'm sure some of you are like eww). This year there is a guy named Brett. I've told my family I wouldn't be caught dead wearing the shirt he has on. It was funny when last night I found out that his job is t-shirt designer (and he also likes to quote the bible).

I think the sort of art his shirt has on display is better for website design than a passing symbol of who you are (people get judged by their t-shirts).
