Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

I still don't think that DJ is a particularly bad keeper truth be told, he's certainly not in the Alan Rough calibre of badness, but this photo seems apropriate after tonight's off night:

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

He's a terrific keeper in some ways - but he continues to make too many disastrous misjudgements to be a real top-level international keeper.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:13 (twenty years ago)

agreed. He's no International keeper due to the lack of what?, concentration maybe? But in the premiership, he's right up there.

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

I heard he plays a lot of Playstation football games.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

Do you Brits still refer to him as 'Calamity James'?

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

Judgement, I think - his reading of where through balls and crosses are going to be is very poor. His agility and shot-stopping are maybe world class.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:16 (twenty years ago)

He is a good athlete but he lacks what you'd call a "football brain".

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:21 (twenty years ago)

i.e. a crap keeper really. since so much of goalkeeping is in making right judgement and being in the right positions at the right time (like, you need to be agile too, but there's only so far you can dive).

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 23:30 (twenty years ago)

Bad judgement is a bit of an understatement. This is a guy who once lost form because his hair was blue.

Maybe he only let in 4 goals because he was wearing his lucky number.

Diddyismus (Dada), Thursday, 18 August 2005 09:03 (twenty years ago)

Well done, Ken.

(You're a good keeper!)
