Umm so apparently Tricky's temporarily joined the cast of this Kelsey Grammer-produced and much-loved-by-Di sitcom Girlfriends? Playing Dude From Persia White's Band With Whom She's Having A Turbulent Relationship? I.e. not a future alien-man? And I didn't hear about this? Discuss, or something?

?!?

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Tricky not being a future alien-man only makes even more like a future alien-man. (One day, perhaps, we will all be on Girlfriends.)

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 02:24 (twenty-one years ago)

and here i thought i was seeing things on the tv.

kephm, Tuesday, 24 May 2005 02:33 (twenty-one years ago)

"Lynn has a brief fling with her womanizing bandmate Finn (guest star Tricky)."

He's been guest-starring for at least three or four episodes, from what I can tell. There's not much that can be said about this, I guess, other than, you know, weird.

nabiscothingy, Tuesday, 24 May 2005 02:35 (twenty-one years ago)

And that it looks like the whole 'trip-hop' thing hasn't really worked out.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 02:41 (twenty-one years ago)

God I fuckin hate Tricky.

Didn't he get Alanis in for a guest spot on one single? I bet she introduced him to Dave Coulier, and Coulier and Stamos took him out for a weekend at the Sitcom Country Club, where Grammer was all lounging in the hot tub going "Listen, you'd be perfect for my show."

nabiscothingy, Tuesday, 24 May 2005 02:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm more shocked that kelsey grammer is behind this show!

j blount (papa la bas), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 02:50 (twenty-one years ago)

The Oracle says: John Stamos has a Tricky (I) number of 2.

John Stamos was in Private Parts (1997) with Kim Chan
Kim Chan was in Fifth Element, The (1997) with Tricky (I)

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 02:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Now if you can just find independent two-step links to Bob Saget and the Olsen twins.

nabiscothingy, Tuesday, 24 May 2005 02:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I both weirded out and saddened by this. He's a shit actor. But remember when he made that one great album? Ten years ago?

slightly more subdued (kenan), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 02:57 (twenty-one years ago)

he made three great albums!!!

j blount (papa la bas), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

One great one and a couple listenable ones.

slightly more subdued (kenan), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 03:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Or were we including Massive Attack albums?

slightly more subdued (kenan), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 03:01 (twenty-one years ago)

stamos drops some ambient science on his website.

j blount (papa la bas), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure I've seen other official websites

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 03:03 (twenty-one years ago)

this - - was more than merely 'listenable' kenan

j blount (papa la bas), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

This... what?

slightly more subdued (kenan), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 03:23 (twenty-one years ago)

My thought is, Nearly God and Pre-Millemium Tension are good moody little pieces of production, but they don't have that twisted sexy fucked-up punch-in-the-gut that Maxinquaye has.

slightly more subdued (kenan), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 03:25 (twenty-one years ago)

And all of his other records can suck me. What a disappiontment.

slightly more subdued (kenan), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 03:26 (twenty-one years ago)

We're bashing Tricky now? Where's that emoticon for severe eye-rolling...

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 04:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Why did you italisize Tricky? Is that the name of something?

slightly more subdued (kenan), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 04:21 (twenty-one years ago)

And no, I would never "bash" Tricky. He's made me too happy for me to ever really bash him.

slightly more subdued (kenan), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 04:21 (twenty-one years ago)

[[[Oh no no Kenan...while NG could def be called a "moody little piece" of production-collaboration-sideprojecty-celebritywakery-showoffiness...PMT is the gigantic battering mauling abusive side of hip hop's infernal unconscious, a direct descent into Hell no one's taken us on since. Plz re-listen to "Vent" and "Bad Things" and that Eric B and Rakim cover with the lights off at full volume again, preferably after getting stoned, and tell me you're not feeling anything in your gut or elsewhere...the backwards guitar strands in "Bad Dream" that sound like hundreds of translucent spermatozoa swimming towards a radiating egg...the menacing, impish Id-like voice of Tricky's alter-ego devil taunting us in the background of "Tricky Kid," the irresistable dream-like sound of "Sex Drive" taking one downstream, with the sonics layered upon each other to create the effect of floating down a chaotic red river of lust and blood...etc etc...all leave me in awe of this album!! AwDF though is what happens to our poor hero when he gets to his Hell: obsession de record company! It was also the last great thing he did :( ]]]]

that was all just a parathetical note. what i really wish to say is i'm disappointed he's not on Desperate Housewives

Vichitravirya XI, Tuesday, 24 May 2005 04:24 (twenty-one years ago)

haha

Yeah, I understand. It's... okay... it's a GREAT piece of production. So's The Downward Spiral. Don't make it a great album.

slightly more subdued (kenan), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 04:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Why did you italisize Tricky?

For emphasis. To convey my indignant disbelief that Tricky is a candidate for diminution and derision. I guess I could have said, 'We're bashing TRICKY now???!!!!???'

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)

[[ i get your point too - so mumbling jumblewhisperswearjumbblecursejumblejummble doesn't exactly match the tortured emo-lyricism of Max, but little does...and if you use your imagination, ya can fill in the holes: "Vent" really does sound like the most apocalyptic song ever for example, if you can picturise a ground-shearing earthquake or mind-blowing paranormal experience involving inverted holograms, or Sept 11th like attack ("hijack a plane"?!) in between its "i can hardly brrreathe" chorus...]]]. using imagination while enduring Tricky = fun thing!!

anyway, i'd just like to remind everyone that making harmless television guest appearances is still much >> than soldiering on to release awful dreck like his last album ("Vulnerable," right? i like how AMG didnt even review it, as it must be tooembarrassing), and maybe he'll evenually grow into role of schlocky cult star / trivia hero, b4 devolving into the next decade's very own robert blake-like figure after such "exposure" to the "thespian arts" fucks with his Vulnerable head

Vichitravirya XI, Tuesday, 24 May 2005 04:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh and Downward Spiral is _also_ a great album but there are other places for this

Vichitravirya XI, Tuesday, 24 May 2005 04:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I listen to Downward Spiral more than I will ever admit.

slightly more subdued (kenan), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 05:24 (twenty-one years ago)

The stretches of PMT that are really good are, like, really good, and I’ll kinda take some of those Martina tracks around “Bad Dream” over anything else Tricky’s ever done. Some of the lulls, though, dude: you can be in a mega-stoned half-unconscious staring-at-your-own-fingers point and that middle track can still induce you to get up out of bed and walk all the way across the room to hit the skip button. Proper good album, though, yes.

We may have lost sight of the real issue here, though, which is THIS:

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

You're all nuts, Premillenium Tension is his best record by far. Maxinquaye is lovely, but it hasn't aged nearly as well.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

But, you know, I realized a long time ago that I just can't respect most people's opinion of Tricky.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, most people are completely crackers. As evidenced in this very thread.

Leon Federline (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Why does Tricky look like Grace Jones after an acid facial?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Ajournalist who hung out with Tricky in Sydney told me all he remembers is a cloud of dope smoke with a suit attached. Occasionally a face that would occasionally pop out, laugh at him, then disappear into the haze again.

moley, Tuesday, 24 May 2005 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

this thread has amazed me.

blahbariantheoriginal, Wednesday, 25 May 2005 07:00 (twenty-one years ago)
