s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

What did he do?

M Philip O'Nyman (Ferg), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

He's the man.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

He's just this guy, y'know . . .

On one hand I've got myself to blame (Lynskey), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

he's good in deadwood.

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:27 (twenty-one years ago)

bizarro "trivia" from the imdb:

Has heard his own movie Dune (1984) described as "science fiction's answer to Heaven's Gate (1980) (which Dourif also starred in)," and he agrees totally with this summation.

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i used to love him more than anything, and i don't remember what sparked it. needless to say i love gaunt pale and um, terrifying, looking men.

carly (carly), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

you love count chocula!

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Brad Dourif's just one of those people who's great in whatever he does, even in a bad movie you've got to watch him.

TV's Mr Noodle Vague (noodle vague), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

He plays a drifter who wanders into trouble in Toto's (? Nightranger's?) video "Stranger in Town." It is a fucking frightening piece of work.

I did too, actually.

He's the only watchable thing in Exorcist 3.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Saturday, 21 May 2005 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

He plays the digiridoo on Mick Farren CDs.

Brad Dhourif

Orbit (Orbit), Saturday, 21 May 2005 03:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I should have said, the New Deviants, released on Alive/Bomp in around 96, I think.

Orbit (Orbit), Saturday, 21 May 2005 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

How was that? I remember seeing it in the stores.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Saturday, 21 May 2005 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Farren's great. I love the "Screwed Up" EP. And lots of his prose.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Saturday, 21 May 2005 03:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I was Promo Goddess for that one. but for the life of me I wouldn't be able to remember it without playing it. I do remember visiting his apt in Hollywood to return some of his paperbacks that we'd scanned in for promo purposes, and him and Brad were there, wasted after a wild weekend. Brad actually freaked me out. He had wild eyes.

Orbit (Orbit), Saturday, 21 May 2005 03:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha! Nice one. Farren's a Hall of Famer for "Let's Loot the Supermarket" (and then "Let's Loot the Supermarket Again Like We Did Last Summer") alone. The Dourif connection really intrigues me.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Saturday, 21 May 2005 03:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Yup.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 9 June 2006 04:36 (twenty years ago)

I am slowly working my way through Deadwood, and man alive is he good on that show.

He should have won an Emmy for his work on that one episode of The X-Files.

timmy tannin (pompous), Friday, 9 June 2006 05:46 (twenty years ago)

He had an amazing part in two episodes of Star Trek Voyager, as a murderous Betazoid-turned-sorta-pacifist-turned-savior-of-the-whole-crew by a forced Tuvoc mindmeld.

one year passes...

Despite his attempts to avoid typecasting, he frequently plays demented, deranged, or disturbed characters

gershy, Saturday, 24 May 2008 06:18 (eighteen years ago)

Still think his performance in the Wild Blue Yonder is under-appreciated.

Gukbe, Saturday, 24 May 2008 06:58 (eighteen years ago)

The man has a face born to front a character actor. I can't imagine what he'd do with a William Macy role, though. That would be an interesting experiment.

So, does your pleasure in watching a film usually result in an increase or decrease when you realize "Hey, Brad Dourif is in this movie!"?

kingfish, Thursday, 28 January 2010 07:39 (sixteen years ago)

Always increases. Love him.

Goonhynhnms & YaHOOS (WmC), Monday, 30 May 2011 00:59 (fifteen years ago)

hell yeah, that's the movie that put me in dude's corner for life - more than 25 years ago!

contenderizer, Monday, 30 May 2011 01:44 (fifteen years ago)

Wise Blood is pretty much my favourite film. Don't really know his other work, to be honest, and I'm a bit scared from this thread...

emil.y, Monday, 30 May 2011 02:27 (fifteen years ago)

Fantastic as Billy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, fantastic as the doctor in Deadwood, good as Wormtongue in the LOTR movies...I haven't seen a whole lot of his other work. I didn't even remember him being in Blue Velvet, but Wiki says he's in there.
