Club Moog, I think, would be your sort of thing.

Search ambrose, jed, and Philip Sherburne.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 19:56 (8 years ago) Permalink

Yes everyone is all "moog moog moog" lately.

Lawrence/Sten from Kompakt is playing on Saturday night.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 19:57 (8 years ago) Permalink

Also that crepe place that ambrose mentioned on a nother thread, IS amazing. Can't remember the name!

I LOVE Barcelona. :(

i'm hoping to make it out there around Easter but it's so expensive now - the BA sale had a flight at £90 (3 day stay over Easter weekend) - may have to wait until the Autumn

We lick everything in sight as a way of claiming our territory and warding off the other, like in Pink Flamingoes, like dogs pissing on street corners.

I think I had a really great time in Barcelona but I can't remember much of it.

some others
cos i am so vain, i love to see my name in pixels

ps i lived there a year ago exactly *sniff* so maybe days of wee kare a bit out of date.

to cut a long story short, nitsa is a must go to, although a bit crowded, moog is meant to be good but never got there, razmatazz is insanely big and weird.

There's a fantastic crepe place in Gracia. It's on C. de Torrent de L'olla, just near Travessera de Gracia.

Also you might want to go and get a beer and some tapas in Place del Sol; the best place is in the north-east corner of the square.

There's a kinda quaint Absynthe bar down in La Raval (ie the area east of La Rambla). It's in C. de Sant Pau... it's a bit creepy walking down there at night, but just head down to the third left from La Rambla, it's on that corner.

the thing is about barcelona, is it doesnt really matter about clubs etc. every street corner has a wicked little generic neighbourhood bar that is totally random but also totally amazing, for some reason they induce you to have a estrella damm at any time of the day or night. this is especially prevalent when you get out of the centre, like in the eixample. my favourite one of these was one in placa urquinaona, called bar hockey, run by crazy people. it had awesome typography on the sign. tis certainly not worth a visit just for that, but if you were round the back of el corte ingles, for example......we used to go there a lot cos it was nr he school.

i cant believ u went to suzette adam!!!! tht is insane, glad u enjoyed it. i cant believ iused to be able to just toddle along to somewhere like that, if the fancy took me. fucks sake.

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 23:33 (8 years ago) Permalink

suzette, that's it! Yeah I went on your recommendation! That's some good people watching.

Remember... Absinthe before beer, never fear. Beer before abinsthe, hallucinate slightly before blacking out and waking up in a pool of your own vomit in a foreign land.

This is pretty close to what happened to me when I was in Barcelona.

2 years pass...

I need some help from those who know about Barcelona. Made a last minute decision to go to Sonar with my gf and we need a hotel/flat. Obviously tons of places are booked out, I have about 20 loquo enquiries pending at the moment on apartments.

It looks a bit like we might have to stay in a hotel, even tho it's a bit pricier. Yet the area stuff is a bit confusing, is Avenue Diagonal near the city? Seem to be lots of hotels around there.

Ronan, Saturday, 2 June 2007 17:36 (5 years ago) Permalink

It's an easy walk and a nice area - you'd be fine around there dude

Porkpie, Saturday, 2 June 2007 17:40 (5 years ago) Permalink

It says 20 mins by Metro. Is it walkable? That seems fine if so.

My main worry is being at an event/club and wanting to go home and it being impossible.

Ronan, Saturday, 2 June 2007 17:49 (5 years ago) Permalink

It's a while since I was there but when I was I barely got the metro at all and just wandered.

Porkpie, Saturday, 2 June 2007 18:26 (5 years ago) Permalink

diagonal is v long

where is sonar abouts?

RJG, Saturday, 2 June 2007 18:36 (5 years ago) Permalink

when i went in 05, i'd only got a bed in a hostel booked for the first night - on the second day i wandered down the road by the sea and within a few blocks found a free (and much better!) room for the rest of my stay. you'll be fine!

lex pretend, Saturday, 2 June 2007 18:42 (5 years ago) Permalink

ronan be aware that the metro stops running around 1AM (i think), but there's an excellent system of night buses (called "nitbus" if im remembering correctly) that gets you around btw 1 and around 4:30.

max, Saturday, 2 June 2007 19:12 (5 years ago) Permalink

I'm not actually going to Sonar itself, but various clubs maybe. Or maybe just two different events on Saturday most likely.

Ronan, Saturday, 2 June 2007 19:26 (5 years ago) Permalink

i was there filming during sonar 04, and we made zero plans for accomodation, and found a hostel near the top of la rambla in about a half hour of walking around. easy peasy. in less touristy areas it'd be even easier, i suspect.

river wolf, Saturday, 2 June 2007 19:35 (5 years ago) Permalink

yeah the thing is I sort of need somewhere nice as opposed to a post-drug crypt.

Ronan, Saturday, 2 June 2007 19:54 (5 years ago) Permalink

I've been twice and apartments were always fairly inexpensive and central. Nothing fancy but not shitholes either. Just stuck Barcelona and apartments into the goog. Always went with 3 or more and booked quite a bit in advance tho. So this post isn't much use probably. I am staying in a hostel this time, not looking forward to it, I need to watch tv in my underwear on a comedown or it just doesn't feel right.

jim, Saturday, 2 June 2007 20:02 (5 years ago) Permalink

are you going to the efdemin thing on sat night, ronan, and have you tried craigslist?

RJG, Saturday, 2 June 2007 21:28 (5 years ago) Permalink

only by day

czn, Saturday, 2 June 2007 21:39 (5 years ago) Permalink

what the fuck does that mean

RJG, Saturday, 2 June 2007 21:48 (5 years ago) Permalink

They have by day and by night. By day is in the CCCB-MACBA. The night time thing is a big rave in a soulless disused airport thing on the outskirts.

: )

RJG, Saturday, 2 June 2007 22:54 (5 years ago) Permalink

I think Sebo K/Ewano P/Philo S on the Saturday.

And some Mobilee party in the daytime on the Saturday.

I'll try Craigslist. We found a nice hotel for a reasonable price that is 2 miles outside the city centre. Reckon I might just go for that since literally every single site I tried for apartments is booked out.

sebo k/ewan p/phil s are all playing mit efdemin : )

People are going to be staying in the area by Sonar by Day behind the Boqueria etc to one side of the Ramblas so my suggestion is to find somewhere in Eixample or Gracia; also try near the zoo and market at the southernmost point of the Eixample street grid - shady, cool, and surprisingly cheap. A lot of the hostel accomodation is in lovely rooms but no aircon. There is also a boutique hotel around the corner from Vincon that might also suit but it might be...expensiveish, but not outrageous. Maybe a treat is in order for you?

suzy, Sunday, 3 June 2007 10:16 (5 years ago) Permalink

do you know the name of the hotel? at the moment I'm pretty close to booking a place that looks really nice, which is around 430 euro for both us for the three nights, seems good value even if it was a crappy hotel.

Ronan, Sunday, 3 June 2007 10:41 (5 years ago) Permalink

(which it isn't. this place is dead nice)

Ronan, Sunday, 3 June 2007 10:41 (5 years ago) Permalink

It's either OMM or Gallery - both are on Calle Rossello just off Passeig de Gracia, and pretty much opposite one another. I'm pretty sure that Sonar artistes get placed at these places or at the Hotel Arts on the beach. Which is handy for the Kompakt afterparty.

suzy, Sunday, 3 June 2007 12:27 (5 years ago) Permalink

ronan, you could try <a href="http://www.hostalgrau.com/php/index.php&quot;>hostal grau</a> where meg and i stayed a couple of months ago, BUT it is like 10 ft from macba-cccb so possibly booked up already...

Dudes who have been to Barcelona recently, where is good to hang these days? Am going tomorrow for a few days, staying in the Southern bit of the Eixample. Bar and restaurant recommendations particularly appreciated.
