"Sorry boys, all the stitches in the world can't sew me together again. Lay down... lay down. Gonna stretch me out in Fernandez funeral home on Hun and Ninth street. Always knew I'd make a stop there, but a lot later than a whole gang of people thought... Last of the Moh-Ricans... well maybe not the last. Gail's gonna be a good mom... New improved Carlito Brigante... Hope she uses the money to get out. No room in this city for big hearts like hers... Sorry baby, I tried the best I could, honest... Can't come with me on this trip, Loaf. Getting the shakes now, last call for drinks, bars closing down... Sun's out, where are we going for breakfast? Don't wanna go far. Rough night, tired baby... Tired..."

i love this shit... where we going to go for breakfast...

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 19 November 2009 15:31 (sixteen years ago)

The scene where somebody is hiding behind the door in the poolroom is one of the most suspenseful ever.

This movie is awesome! Pacino's inexplicable lisp is what puts it over the top into all-time greatness.

One of Viggo's all-time great scene-steals, too. "I'm wearing a diaper, man!"

Hey Jude, Thursday, 19 November 2009 23:42 (sixteen years ago)

the accents in this movie are just lawl, including penn's. pacino's is the most inspired though... an italian hairdresser from staten island?

two years pass...

I think this is what auteurists used to mean when they threw around the word "delirious" as the highest form of praise...It's never boring, but I'm probably closest to congratulations' post above. Pacino has a good quiet scene the first time he sits down with Penelope Ann Miller, otherwise that accent's just one big elephant in the room the whole way. There's one guy I like a lot, and one line delivery I always love: Saso in his first scene, the way he says "Fifty, sixty thousand" when Pacino asks him about his gambling debt.

The poolroom scene's good, but "El Watusi" automatically, for me, diminishes it next to Scorsese's use of the same song.

haven't watched it in over a decade. But can never forget "billy blanco from the bronx" and Penn's beady-eyed fake baldy cokehead.

calzino, Saturday, 5 August 2017 08:50 (eight years ago)

Pacino's Nuyorican accent in this is pretty good. Guys upthread don't know what they're talkin' 'bout. His Tony Montana, otoh,... ¡Ay Dios mio - que mierda!

Acid Hose (Capitaine Jay Vee), Saturday, 5 August 2017 12:45 (eight years ago)

the lengthy pursuit scene at the end is one of my favorites
