Unmitigated dud!

I mean, is it common for scars of blisters to remain a full month after wearing heels?

Leeenge de Bruijn (Leee), Monday, 29 November 2004 02:36 (nineteen years ago) link

D!

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 29 November 2004 02:39 (nineteen years ago) link

obviously a classic.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 29 November 2004 02:40 (nineteen years ago) link

in moderation, of course.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 29 November 2004 02:40 (nineteen years ago) link

unmistakably dud. i refuse to wear them. stupid.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Monday, 29 November 2004 02:41 (nineteen years ago) link

I literally can't stand up in them unless I'm holding on to something.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 29 November 2004 02:45 (nineteen years ago) link

i can walk in them. i never wear them though.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 29 November 2004 02:48 (nineteen years ago) link

pointy toed witch high heels = dud.

brock (brock), Monday, 29 November 2004 03:02 (nineteen years ago) link

a classic. i wear my bandolinos like they're a pair of sneakers.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 29 November 2004 03:54 (nineteen years ago) link

Ladies who wear them: Classique

Jimmy Mod always makes friends with women before bedding them down (ModJ), Monday, 29 November 2004 03:54 (nineteen years ago) link

also classic: heels with jeans.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 29 November 2004 03:56 (nineteen years ago) link

yes.

g--ff (gcannon), Monday, 29 November 2004 03:58 (nineteen years ago) link

well it's a bit fratty but i like it nonetheless.

g--ff (gcannon), Monday, 29 November 2004 03:59 (nineteen years ago) link

I always assume people who claimed not to be able to walk/stand in heels are being a bit melodramatic. Really, they usually have more arch support and are more comfy than flats.

mouse (mouse), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:02 (nineteen years ago) link

from the way men in drag look awkward and uncomfortable, you can tell that it's not just melodrama. i have one pair of heels. i got horrible blisters once when i was wearing them because i had to do a lot of walking. very impractical for college campuses, etc. but i find it unacceptable when people wear stockings with sneakers, esp. black stockings and white sneakers!

youn, Monday, 29 November 2004 04:10 (nineteen years ago) link

Really, they usually have more arch support and are more comfy than flats.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Um, there's a good reason why I own more pairs of flats than pairs of heels, and the reason's NOT that I want less arch support and less comfort.

(This, to me, is like telling me that thong underwear is more comfortable than briefs are. Which, I know, has been claimed dozens of times before, but I ain't buying it.)

Drama Queen Wannabe (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:11 (nineteen years ago) link

maybe all this shows that it's a matter of opinion, like anything. i can walk perfectly well in high heels but i don't find them more comfortable than flats, particularly stilettos, the balls of my feet ache after standing in them for long periods. however they do make me feel sexy so i wear them on special occasions but not to work every day.

i find thong underwear/gstrings heaps more comfortable than briefs.

gem (trisk), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:14 (nineteen years ago) link

i second thong statement.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:17 (nineteen years ago) link

on the ladies? riding boots >>> heels

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:22 (nineteen years ago) link

I think I could understand the stiletto people more than I could understand the thong people, because thongs to me seem to be like permanent wedgies, and I could not see how that could be comfortable. Stilettos, OTOH, might feel bearable and totally walkable after some practice.

(I guess I could put a "this is my own personal opinion" disclaimer here, sure.)

Drama Queen Wannabe (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:27 (nineteen years ago) link

but when you get a wedgie with normal underwear it's like SO MUCH WEDGIE. with thong, you don't even notice the wedgie effect. try it!

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:36 (nineteen years ago) link

thongs when you have your period = DUD BEYOND BELIEF (tmi)

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:38 (nineteen years ago) link

caitlin is right! i can't even feel the thong but if i have briefs on they're always creeping up or getting twisted around.

also tampons do not interfere with thong wearing.

gem (trisk), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:41 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm pleased to say I have neither worn nor owned a single pair of high heels. Dud.

I'm not weighing in on where this thong thing is going, though.

Laura H. (laurah), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:42 (nineteen years ago) link

Thongs are appalling (in my opinion); if your panties fit, they won't creep or twist. All of which goes to show that yeah thongs/heels/etc = all a matter of taste. And perfect for a c/d thread!

mouse (mouse), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:45 (nineteen years ago) link

This many posts, and no one has asked Lee what he was doing wearing high heels in the first place?

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:49 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah, i thought leee was a boy? what are you?

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:50 (nineteen years ago) link

the trick to making heels a "classic" for you, is finding the right height. i cant wear stilettos at all, but heels 3 inches and under are perfectly awesome for me.

jeans and heels are not "fratty" though the look is certainly co-opted by many college co-eds. heels have a great way of taking any ol' jeans and t-shirt look and turning into 100% hotness.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:52 (nineteen years ago) link

i bet you have to have long hair.

youn, Monday, 29 November 2004 04:58 (nineteen years ago) link

naw. hair has nothing to do with it.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 29 November 2004 04:59 (nineteen years ago) link

The heels walk is the classicest of classics. It seems like heels are worn less and less with every passing year, thereby making them even more classic.

oops (Oops), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:00 (nineteen years ago) link

i wore stilettos with jeans out on saturday night, boys dug it

gem (trisk), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:02 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah, it's good.

g--ff (gcannon), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:06 (nineteen years ago) link

i also love kitten heels with jeans, the heel you wear when you're not wearing a heel!

gem (trisk), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:07 (nineteen years ago) link

also classic: heels with jeans

please tell me you're kidding? this is one of my most hated fashion faux pas!!! stop wearing heels with jeans right now, arrggghhh!

heels, hmm, wear em about once a year when i am dressing up as like-a-prayer era madonna. my feet are hella sore the next day. so classic, yeah, in moderation. just give me a pair of docs, thanks, way sexier and more comfortable.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:12 (nineteen years ago) link

Can't walk in heels - no exaggeration (ankle and leg problems that turn my feet inwards/sidways, thus meaning it is impossible to be comfy or balance). Personally I dont see the point of them, they fuck up your calf muscles and feet.

xpost Di says it so I dont have to, heh. Sorry gem, I think heels and jeans are ... well, um, really Chapel street fake tanned blonde? Y'know? :/

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:16 (nineteen years ago) link

sorry for not being very diplomatic about the heels/jeans look.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:18 (nineteen years ago) link

different strokes *shrug* i'm not blonde nor fake tanned anyways.

gem (trisk), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:22 (nineteen years ago) link

i've been scouring google for some pics of that 80s era ad where women play basketball in heels and all that's coming up is transcripts of an snl skit where they made fun of it. useless interweb.

g--ff (gcannon), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:25 (nineteen years ago) link

Ignore them gem. They're just being arch.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:39 (nineteen years ago) link

I think you have me confused with my fellow Dutch swimmer!

Leeenge de Bruijn (Leee), Monday, 29 November 2004 05:41 (nineteen years ago) link

I don't rally like them. I think the whole point of them is that they are hopelessly inpractical. Rendering the wearer static, or reliant on other people to help her get around.

lukey (Lukey G), Monday, 29 November 2004 10:16 (nineteen years ago) link

Dud dud dud. Painful and I don't need to be any taller. They are kind of sexy, but that's more because of the kinky submissive impracticality than any intrinsic aesthetic thing. I am a massive fan of the kitten heel however.

As an aside re: the fratty thing, how weird is it that female students still get called co-eds in the US? Like it's still special in some way for girls to be at university.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 29 November 2004 10:22 (nineteen years ago) link

Heels - dud, ouch. I've tried and failed to wear them on many an occasion. When I practise walking in them around the house or try them in the shop I'm perfectly fine - as soon as I step outside I'm like Bambi on the ice.

Flats every time. Oh, and tights? DUD.

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Monday, 29 November 2004 10:26 (nineteen years ago) link

Jesus Christ, Paraplegic (Mark C), Monday, 29 November 2004 11:00 (nineteen years ago) link

i'm pretty crap at wearing high heels (or any uncomfortable shoes, really). i've got a pair of 2.5" strappy sandals that i've now worn twice for 'events' and both times the balls of my feet were killing me within minutes, even using those 'party feet' insert things.

i suspect that it's just something that people get used to, but i've never been motivated enough to wear heels regularly. i'm tall enough that i tower over most people, so don't 'need' to wear them. i'm also too poor to take taxis everywhere, which i suspect would make girly shoes more practical for a night out.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 29 November 2004 11:01 (nineteen years ago) link

If I was a woman, I don't think I would wear them.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Monday, 29 November 2004 11:02 (nineteen years ago) link

Almost every pair of jeans I own fits me like the jeans in Allyzay's post. I have two pairs of boot-cut ones and I trip over them all the damn time.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 22:04 (nineteen years ago) link

She should be wearing white sneakers, white socks and a sweatshirt, and have permed and higlighted hair 'cause that's what I associate with tapered jeans.

StanM, Thursday, 1 November 2007 19:22 (sixteen years ago) link

I live v close to a subway station. Half the sidewalks are covered in subway grills. But girls wearing heels can't walk on subway grills. So they have to walk on the wrong side of the sidewalk. So everyone not wearing heels has to weave back and forth between the the people who can walk on the right side of the sidewalk and the people who can't. Funk that.

does anyone know if it is possible for a cobbler to take a couple inches off of very high heels?

bell_labs, Monday, 28 January 2008 15:32 (sixteen years ago) link

also, what do you think of buying shoes that are a full size too big? is there any way to make them wearable?

bell_labs, Monday, 28 January 2008 15:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, I think there's a metal rod inside the heel, actually, so they'd be grinding it down...also then the toe would probably point up, since the hinge was made for the front to be flat on the ground relative to the heel height. I've never considered it...perhaps ask a shoe place? Pref a good one, tho, since this sounds like a major project.

Re size too big: you can put in halters, which are the little cork pads that push your feet back into the heels. It seems like a pain for a full size, tho.

Now I'm curious -- what is up??

Laurel, Monday, 28 January 2008 15:37 (sixteen years ago) link

haha nothing really. i just wore some 4 inch heels yesterday and realized i can't walk more than 10 blocks in them. and so i was looking at flat boots online and found the exact same pair as a comfy pair i already have, but in brown, on sale, but they are a size big.

^but if anyone's an 8.5 (i think they run a little big, im usually an 8 but got at 7.5) these are awesome boots

bell_labs, Monday, 28 January 2008 15:50 (sixteen years ago) link

In my opinion there's no point in getting shoes that don't (quite) fit, but maybe that's just how I talk myself out of the more borderline purchases that I don't really need.

Four inches is quite a lot of heel! But when would you be walking more than 10 blocks when you wd also be dressed up/secksy enough for such boots?

Laurel, Monday, 28 January 2008 15:52 (sixteen years ago) link

almost always! there's not really anything worth dressing up for in my hood (wore them to a sushi restaurant last night, eh)

bell_labs, Monday, 28 January 2008 15:54 (sixteen years ago) link

I like to think that my walk to and from the subway (from my house) is the longest trip I'll make all day. But then you probably could have guessed that.

Laurel, Monday, 28 January 2008 16:01 (sixteen years ago) link

well, my work is a 10 to 15 minute walk from the nearest subway

bell_labs, Monday, 28 January 2008 16:03 (sixteen years ago) link

bell_labs, Monday, 28 January 2008 16:09 (sixteen years ago) link

bell labs, it has been a hard and somewhat costly lesson to learn, but to buy any shoe that is not your size or does not fit well is foolhardy. You'll hardly ever wear them and when you do it will be a hell.
