Why shoudnt Guns be liscneced like cars. Not banned per say but have the goverenment keep a database about who owns them ?

anthony, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

do you believe criminals would get their weapons licenced? not likely right, only those who already follow the laws will comply so what is the point? it seems to me to be an incremental step, register then when we confiscate we know who has them. i guess that sounds paranoid but registering hand-guns won't have any effect on crime will it? just like the new airline safety bill won't make air travel any more safe.

But if George has a gun and that gun gets stolen , if there is a serial number on it and someone robs a liqour store and they find that gun... ok too many ifs. I cannot think of a legit reason for a handgun ? And i am not some anti gun nut. I have a F.A.C and David shoots and i do not grudge one second the fact that the government knows i have one, its jon birch who first floated the legisate=ban idea.

Guns are horrible. My uncle the cop used to pack a piece at even the most inappropriate times and places (Disney World?!?) and it freaked me out.

handguns should not be availible full, hunting weapons should be strictly controlled, those who hold them should be strcictly controlled and licenced, the police should only carry guns in extremis, more appropriately as sniper than pistols, penalties for carrying guns should be severe. Gun licences should be hard to obtain and for single types of guns only and a legitimate reason should be part of part the application, target shooting, or domestic protection don't count, we're talking farmers here and not many others.

anthony, Thursday, 22 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My uncle also hunted and I thought that was totally legitimate gun use, since it was mostly waterfowl and small game and what he shot was EATEN. The Ted Nugent rule, if y'like.

what do people want guns for anyway? apart from to shoot people that is

gareth, Thursday, 22 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

To shoot non-people obviously. To make big banging noises. TO fill up their otherwise bereft gun rack. The list is endless.
