So proper judging others over her tea.

Or do a charity concert at the opening of this year's Hanseatic Days in my hometown?

2 months pass...
The various "quit jobs" threads didn't seem to fit, so I'm posting here instead.

Today I quit my job.

Well, I gave notice... Two month notice to be precise, but I'm sorta in a critical position (netadmin/manager type) and I think my boss appreciated the two month heads up. More to the point I think she was jealous because I was getting rid of everything and just bailing on UCI, California, life in general. Anyway, pretty much the entire world knew that I was moving to NYC except for UCI and I've had a lot of angst trying to feign interest in department stuff, when I'm really thinking about packing the car and bailing east with JBR.

In celebration I drank an entire bottle of champagne and ate some cookie dough ice cream. Yay me!

4 years pass...

My dad died twenty years ago today. Figured I should post something somewhere. One of my fave memories is our occasional drives out to Las Vegas: his games of choice were black jack & keno, mine were Asteroids & Tempest. I suppose it was our version of father/son time - instead of sports, it was driving, diner food, and gambling with the ocassional stop at Edwards to see the space shuttle land or a quick stop at the dry lake bed N of Baker to practice driving a stick shift transmission.

Anyway I swear I didn't plan to be in Vegas today - it just kinda worked out that way. This morning I won $400 on roulette and slots, so thanks dad wherever you are! I still miss you a lot.

Pretty much standard practice. Just feel like a dumb ass for sitting there for so long before someone bothered to tell me.

I keep all my digital clutter on my own railroads so to speak. The only thing I lost was, ironically, a copy of my resume that I had been updating. I've been strategically casting about for a new job for about a month now. I've been working there for just over six years and it was about time for me to move on... I just wanted to be able to do it on my own schedule. The other annoyance is that my 401K contribution from them had just hit 100%, which means that I was a relatively expensive employee doing work that could be outsourced and/or performed by much lower priced people.

and thanks for the wishes!

Elvis Telecom, Saturday, 21 July 2012 01:05 (10 months ago) Permalink

Most difficult part... The CTO (who's only been there for six months) didn't really have a checklist, so I had to go around and turn in keys, garage remote, and ID badge myself. When I went to turn in my badge at HR (which is in another building) they were surprised to see me there so I got this weird look over. Felt like saying "no I'm not a goddamn disgruntled Batman shooter."

Elvis Telecom, Saturday, 21 July 2012 01:13 (10 months ago) Permalink
