Easy, Mark! Yes, it is an example of "the filmic arts", on general release in the US as of today. It looks quite bad, but some of the reviews has been surprising.

The ending isn't as bad as I'd been led to believe, and for once the really-dark ending wouldn't have satisfied me.

I really, really liked the black comedy aspect. So much so I resented the redemption and rehumanization aspect.

I've never seen the Director's Cut, but the Badder Santa DVD is basically the same as the theatrical release with 10 mostly irrelevant minutes...

What's great about the boxing ring scene?

Contains the only funny theatrical instance of someone getting punched in the dick from the last 25 years.

Can this possibly be worse than Trainspotting 2?

At least Trainspotting 2 has decent original material to draw from (Glue + Porno)

I wasn't too impressed by Porno but it's been so long I can't remember why. That and Trainspotting are all I've read by him and I've heard his work is hit and miss so maybe I should give Glue a shot.

I liked both of those! The Filth in particular, which is horrible but still good. Apparently there is a movie. I have no desire to see it.

I liked MSN, but I can see why Irvine Welsh doesn't: it sort of seems tacked together and finished in a rush.

Seeing this sequel tonight, I don't dare raise my hopes any higher than "not completely terrible" tbh

yeah quite aside from the usual years-later unnecessary sequel concerns the first film was kinda good against the odds, chances of that happening again are slim

i'd weigh in that the original had a lot of weird factors that contributed to its existence

the Coen brothers doing uncredited script doctoring, Zwigoff directing but the editing keeping it light (the director's cut is somehow darker and less funny), Cloris Leachman as the senile grandmother....

yeah, no high hopes here, but i will watch it

Seeing the Welsh talk upthread reminds me that I was recently reminded that there was a movie of Acid House I completely forgot about released in '99, which was made up of the title story and two others from the book.

I think I watched that but I have absolutely no memory of it whatsoever

well one thing I can say: if the turnout for this (free!) screening is anything to go by, people do not give a fuck about this film

I get the feeling that despite it's absolute shiteness I'll probably end up liking this. Despite both the actor/character dying I get the feeling Bernie Mac is a big loss for any bullshit sequel, he's at least a quarter of what I liked about the original.

Rightly, as it turned out. Being a bunch of short stories, some were OK, but when they were bad, they were very bad.

there's only 3 of the short stories from the book in the film, it is a bad film
