*giggles*

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 07:32 (twenty-two years ago)

"Aw you're on your period darling, oh dear"

bad time to be sympathising/looking for a shag then?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 07:45 (twenty-two years ago)

A friend of mine went out and bought FEMINISM FOR BEGINNERS in order to get off with a feminist. I thought this sort of thing only happened in bad sitcoms.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 07:48 (twenty-two years ago)

tom, did it do you any good?

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 08:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Har har.

It did 'work' for him but I don't think the book made any difference.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

All the girls are gonna love me for saying this, and the blokes are gonna hate me, but...

Emma gets really bad period pains and normally uses a hotwaterbottle to help ease them. So, for her birthday I bought her one of these, and now all her friends think I am the sweetest, most caring boyfriend in the world evah.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 08:24 (twenty-two years ago)

he kind of looks like nelson

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 08:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Nelson has enormous feet. Paws.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

There is a teddy bear abandoned on my road

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth, you saved a teddy bear? That's amazing. That's so sweet. I suddenly want to cuddle with you. Why wasn't I told? Gareth is now the nicest, sweetest person I sort of know.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 08:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Aww, I'd forgotten about Nelson.. Gareth, you're such a sweetie.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 08:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I am a bad mang by comparison.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 08:44 (twenty-two years ago)

That's nothing, I saw a young mother struggling to carry her shopping and son's pushchair up a flight of stairs. I was sure to stop and stand there cheering her on and lending my full support so as to motivate her spirits until she reached the top. It was worth taking the time just for the look on her face at the end of it all.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 08:44 (twenty-two years ago)

whatta man...

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 08:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Back on topic:

U're only doin it to get a shag mate. At least own up.

I'll own up, I guess, sort of. I'm doing it to get a shag, and then after a few shags I'm doing it to be genuinely considerate, and a month later I horrifyingly find myself being sympathetic because I'm (gasp!) actually feeling sympathetic. This is how women hook you, and it's a beautiful thing.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 08:46 (twenty-two years ago)

fished in...

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I've done cunnilingus and/or a handjob several times, to make my girlfriend come even if I didn't. Am I a pretender?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 10:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I want an antquariam daddy! I want it NOOOOOOOOOOW! RE: Nicks site.
that is sweet Gareth. Now I am in love with Gareth and Jel.

Nellie (nellskies), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sympathetic to women about periods but I insist on one thing: do not use the period as an excuse to say things you would not say to me usually. If you do, then I will argue back at you the same way I would if you were not having a period. See, I believe it's a bit like "in vino veritas".

thoth (Jake Proudlock), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Finally, a bit of honesty in the bachelor pad.

Course, what about the .05% that are actually sympathetic?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

People are supposed to be sympathetic to periods?! YOU'VE ALL OPENED MY EYES I HAVE BEEN SO BLIND.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

There are people like this, and obviously they are utterly dud. There are also people who assume that anyone who acts as if they actually like women and care how they feel can only possibly be dishonest and trying to get laid. These people hate women, so can't conceive that some men do like many women.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I think everyone should be sympathetic to everyone and act that way. And if they can't *act* that way, better to fucking pretend than not.

Like okay take calz -- is he ever gonna actually be considerate towards women and understand them one bit (or okay men too mainly or er, anything?)? But if he could just *act* like he wasn't such a prick then everyone's live would be easier.

The whole premise of the thread is "yeah we're men, we're pigs, fuck pc let it all hang out." which is of course all the words aspects of laddism rolled up.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

words = worst.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Tori Amos is great. "Little Earthquakes" is one of my 10 fave albums ever and I love her, love her, love her. She's amazing. "Winter" still always manages to send shivers up my spine.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin, will you marry me? OK, I know I:

1: Live several thousand miles across the ocean. That's alright. I know how to swim.

2: Already have a husband. An extra husband's always good to have around, esp. if you want jars opened and dead rats disposed of.

To get serious for a bit, I've always thought of attitudes expressed in Spooner's post to be proof that childish unearned cynicism is the most pathetic emotion of all.

Christine 'Green Leafy Dragon' Indigo (cindigo), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Rude: 7.4

HUZZAH!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

*weeps*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Shame on you! Geeks have to fight the rude boys, so....

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

At the risk of making myself more geeky than I want to be, will someone explain "c/ke/ck" to me?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

No.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, Tracer has spoken.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Male Prostitute

TMFTML (TMFTML), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, Tracer has spoken.

He's strict because he cares.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I like how everyone's being so nasty to Kenan lately, wtf.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Psst! Tracer's got his back turned; look here!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I like how everyone's being so nasty to Kenan lately, wtf.

This board is getting even with me for the sins of my youth. Before I met ILE, I used to be weak and given to mistreatin' message boards.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

But, Spoonered, some men are complete angels!

I think I'm pretty good at telling when people are being disingenuous.

You wouldn't pretend to be sympathetic, would you, spoonered?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...

Yup.

Tuomas, Friday, 6 July 2007 10:20 (eighteen years ago)

I really need an irony detector.

nathalie, Friday, 6 July 2007 12:12 (eighteen years ago)

I find it quite insensitive that women are so ready to denigrate a man's need for a shag.

moley, Friday, 6 July 2007 12:49 (eighteen years ago)

Dud. Judging by the smeary responses, it seems like Spoonered’s remark hit too close to home for some posters’ comfort. I mean, what to make of this lazy, misandrist assumption:

There are people like this, and obviously they are utterly dud. There are also people who assume that anyone who acts as if they actually like women and care how they feel can only possibly be dishonest and trying to get laid. These people hate women, so can’t conceive that some men do like many women.

It’s like telling an imam that he hates Christians just because he doesn’t believe in God Almighty. Me? I’m a straight shooting, no-nonsense, what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of guy.

Jeb, Friday, 6 July 2007 12:57 (eighteen years ago)

you, sir, are a master ironist.

stevienixed, Friday, 6 July 2007 13:02 (eighteen years ago)

I'm so good at pretending to be sympathetic to women's needs that I got married. Little does she know it's all just for shags.

Hurting 2, Friday, 6 July 2007 13:19 (eighteen years ago)

I DO care, in my way. I have this...thing...for crying women.

moley, Friday, 6 July 2007 13:23 (eighteen years ago)

Jeb who was your favourite band out of Sleeper and Echobelly?

DJ Mencap, Friday, 6 July 2007 13:28 (eighteen years ago)
