posting anonymously in order to insult other posters without fear of reprisal and then storming off in a huff when called on it, vowing never to return again (never meaning 48-72 hours) vs. posting anonymously/pseudonymously* in order to start threads that admittedly are inane (farting?) and then reacting with a fair amount of vitriol after being accused of being nonexistent, or worse, middle aged.

Strangely, ILX is one of those places where a troller does not destroy the sense of community, in fact, having a common enemy/topic of discussion seems to draw the Hive Mind closer together. (not necessarily a bad thing.)
What I don't understand is what motivates the troller to stay somewhere where they are at best treated as a sort of pet, or at worst actively hated.
The Denise Lambert type is the "scream cause I'm in so much pain!" sort of type. I've been guilty of this sort of trolling myself. You're in so much pain yourself that you just want something, anything to let loose of the anger inside you. It's very difficult to deal with this sort of troller, because you have this sense of "why are you letting your deep psychological trauma become entertainment for bored office workers?" (Ultimately the reason I had to leave ILX for several months last year.)
The Smeggy Mucus type of troller... far weirder, because you don't actually *know* what is making them tick, or behave the way that they do. Obviously, someone has to be totally disturbed or in a lot of pain themselves to seek attention in such a bizarre way. But because they don't reveal enough of themselves to ever let on *why* they're acting the way that they are, there's not that sense of compassion (or pity) that makes anyone refrain from slapping them upside the head.
ILE *is* in my view, becoming increasingly solipsistic. What I mean is that we are forgetting that there are other people behind these screen names (even if they may be teenage girls or 40 year fat married men) and we're really just shouting at our own demons and therefore ourselves. An issue like dealing with a troll forces a community to examine its own identity and re-establish its agreed morals/ethics. It also forces a lot of navel-gazing and meta-threads, and too much of that is a bad thing.
Anyway, I need my tea.

At its worst ILX doesn't feel like interaction, it can just feel like getting pinned down by someone and having them scream at you about themselves and how great and simultaneously terrible they are incessantly.

I especially enjoy the increased activity on the board lately. Even my bf has been posting! I was just on the phone with him, and we both got quiet for a wee bit. So, I was like, "Hey, are you reading ILX right now or something?" and I was OTM. Ha ha.

Why is the Smeggy Mucus indicative of mental illness or desperate need of attention? Works well enough for simple self-amusement!
The only reason I do agree that BL is indeed sinister is that I sense there will be an inevitable prescripted "suicide" that will legitimately traumatize a few believers.
