Tenth annual Coint & Plick. Vote for the best video games of 2016! DEADLINE: MARCH 6

The time has come to pick your favourite games of 2016 in ILX's tenth Coint & Plick poll (heretofor CPX), sponsored by I Love Games! Ballots work similar to Pazz & Jop; you have 100 points to allocate, and may give as few as 1 or as many as 30 points to any game. This is new, for the love of god please don't give me 100 noms @ 1 point each! Ballots are due in three weeks (Monday, March 6) and the rollout will begin shortly after.

There are three ways to vote!

a) Make a copy of this spreadsheet, fill it out, and e-mail me the spreadsheet (ps2ilxⓐgmail.com)
b) Use the spreadsheet (above) and enter the "copy/paste" line into this Google Form.
c) Manually make your ballot, spacing your number of points and your game with " /// " (e.g. 30 /// Agar.io), each game on a new line, and e-mail it to me (ps2ilxⓐgmail.com)

You can find the complete list of titles in the second tab of the spreadsheet.

Please also include, if you choose, your disappointment of 2016 and your non-2016 game of 2016.

Get out there, play games, vote for them, and have fun!

Wait, is this also the advocacy thread?

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 13 February 2017 11:04 (seven years ago) link

Because if it is:

Rusty Lake make great creepy Room Escape games, called Cube Escape and free free free on Web / iOS / Android. They have great hand-drawn art, and an odd blank presentation that makes the horrible things that occur more affecting. Check them out!

But after the Cube Escape games, they made Rusty Lake Hotel, which is a neat longer game, where you have to 'handle' the animal guests over the course of six nights, as they each become the next course

Rusty Lake: Roots is a massive step up - you plant a tree from a mysterious seed in the first episode, and the branches of the tree represent different vignettes in the haunted and unhappy life of the family over a century. The puzzles are pretty good, some of them entirely unique.

This wiki entry for one of the Cube Escape games should give a flavour of the tone and look.

Gonna bare my heart for Diaries of a Spaceport Janitor which is basically a Cyberpunk Proteus in which the protagonist is just trying to stay afloat day by day. It’s beautiful and I love it.

The sound design manages to communicate the feeling of a vibrant city full of disparate lives that’s happening around you in a way that has really stuck with me.

devvvine, Monday, 13 February 2017 15:26 (seven years ago) link

oh that sounds great

Mordy, Monday, 13 February 2017 16:39 (seven years ago) link

where's the nominations list?

Mordy, Monday, 13 February 2017 16:40 (seven years ago) link

basically dark souls 3 is my number one with a YOU DIED bullet and everything else is a distant second

forks, how far do u get in these dark souls games? do you finish them? i find them so frustrating (and, tbph, a bit tedious)

Mordy, Monday, 13 February 2017 18:51 (seven years ago) link

Somewhat embarassingly, I have spent over a week of my actual life playing DS3.

(mostly multi-player)

i finished (which is to say "beat") them all! I've restarted DS3 with the intent of playing from scratch and then trying the downloadable content. I think i'm about halfway into it. This is my third playthru.

removed from the rain drops and drop tops of experience (ulysses), Monday, 13 February 2017 20:25 (seven years ago) link

i wonder why i keep bouncing off them. there are plenty of extremely difficult games that i've enjoyed mastering. for some reason this series just never did it for me.

Mordy, Monday, 13 February 2017 20:36 (seven years ago) link

mostly i tend to dislike difficult for the sake of difficult but DS speaks my language somehow

Yes this is also the advocacy thread :)

IN CASE I DIDN'T BOLD IT ENOUGH ABOVE:

YOU CAN GIVE 1 POINT TO A GAME NOW. MINIMUM NO LONGER 5. Hoping this causes (A) less ties, (b) more games to get points, (c) idk more interesting results in general?

why ruin a good tradition? (Will M.), Monday, 13 February 2017 22:00 (seven years ago) link

will where is the nom list plz thx :)

Mordy, Monday, 13 February 2017 22:05 (seven years ago) link

You can find the complete list of titles in the second tab of the spreadsheet.

wonder if this is true for anyone else - a lot of decent/strong games this year but none that jump out at me as the obvious #1 best game of 2017

Mordy, Wednesday, 15 February 2017 00:00 (seven years ago) link

Pokemon Go?

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 15 February 2017 09:45 (seven years ago) link

I've got one (and it's not pokemon go) but I don't want to give away any spoilers.

JimD, Wednesday, 15 February 2017 11:10 (seven years ago) link

feel like Dark Souls 3 is the only new game i played last year.

the new DOOM is really good tho. id give it second place. past that, I've no idea. Another Metroid 2 Remake?

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 15 February 2017 14:14 (seven years ago) link

Hi all! We're about half way through the voting phase and I've got one ballot so far, hope you're all waiting til the last minute or something!

why ruin a good tradition? (Will M.), Sunday, 26 February 2017 03:43 (seven years ago) link

I am. I've been working on playing the games I missed. Played a bunch of Doom and just started The Witness. Still have The Division to play.

Mordy, Sunday, 26 February 2017 03:47 (seven years ago) link

same. but this is how it is every year, it's more like how many games WON'T I get around to, also MPQ wins again

Nhex, Sunday, 26 February 2017 05:10 (seven years ago) link

two more days. only three ballots.

why ruin a good tradition? (Will M.), Sunday, 5 March 2017 02:31 (seven years ago) link

You should totally do it on deadline this year, and let Ratchet & Clank 2016 have its year with the crown.

Andrew Farrell, Sunday, 5 March 2017 09:21 (seven years ago) link

I totally missed that voting had started. I'll try to get my ballot of the three 2016 games I've played together asap.

The Flautist of Flatus (Old Lunch), Sunday, 5 March 2017 17:36 (seven years ago) link

voted! got a 5 in a row too

droit au butt (Euler), Sunday, 5 March 2017 17:39 (seven years ago) link

ideally i'd have enough time to put substantial hours into the division, battlefield 1, titanfall 2, and hyper light drifter before voting but i guess time is out

Mordy, Sunday, 5 March 2017 19:14 (seven years ago) link

3 VOTES? That's fucking depressing
I played in '16:
GTA V

calstars, Sunday, 5 March 2017 21:58 (seven years ago) link

And fallout 4 but only out of guilt

calstars, Sunday, 5 March 2017 21:58 (seven years ago) link

Will - maybe voting should be moved back another week or two? I know I've been distracted by the emo poll (and as mentioned could use probably some more time to play more games), and I know the film poll is closing right about now too...? I don't know how many ballots you've got (but either way I'll certainly get my ballot in by deadline. I'll just take all the time allotted before doing so since I'm still actively working through games).

Mordy, Sunday, 5 March 2017 22:20 (seven years ago) link

Sure I can move it back a couple weeks. How's March 20? Anyone who already submitted feel free to resub.

why ruin a good tradition? (Will M.), Sunday, 5 March 2017 23:58 (seven years ago) link

i voted for what it's worth

removed from the rain drops and drop tops of experience (ulysses), Monday, 6 March 2017 00:10 (seven years ago) link

i didnt play many games this year but i'll vote anyway bc i just want this to stay alive.

billstevejim, Monday, 6 March 2017 05:26 (seven years ago) link

the new deadline is official?

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 6 March 2017 13:51 (seven years ago) link

yeah, anyone able to change the title?

why ruin a good tradition? (Will M.), Monday, 6 March 2017 16:43 (seven years ago) link

Shower With Your Dad was 2015. Bummer.

billstevejim, Saturday, 11 March 2017 18:06 (seven years ago) link

whoops, somehow i missed this! i'll try to get my ballot in soon.

Karl Malone, Saturday, 11 March 2017 19:00 (seven years ago) link

Bumping this to remind myself that I have two more days... :(

Nhex, Saturday, 18 March 2017 18:26 (seven years ago) link

Still only 8 ballots

same question here, i guess! i sent mine in last week.

Karl Malone, Sunday, 19 March 2017 02:27 (seven years ago) link

why ruin a good tradition? (Will M.), Sunday, 19 March 2017 03:11 (seven years ago) link

mine is all ready to go and just waiting on last second point distribution decisions (and for me to play more Hitman)

Mordy, Sunday, 19 March 2017 03:11 (seven years ago) link

sent mine this afternoon!

orifex, Sunday, 19 March 2017 04:03 (seven years ago) link

I sent mine a long time ago, do you have it?

droit au butt (Euler), Sunday, 19 March 2017 11:28 (seven years ago) link

sent. and yes my disappointment of 2016 was also one of my favorites

Nhex, Sunday, 19 March 2017 14:34 (seven years ago) link

will -- i sent in the google form. cripes now i better cook it up again and email it (i don't think i saved it :-/)

the klosterman weekend (s.clover), Sunday, 19 March 2017 16:39 (seven years ago) link

ah, found it and emailed it in (google saved the spreadsheet thing so i had it around)

the klosterman weekend (s.clover), Sunday, 19 March 2017 16:43 (seven years ago) link

Ok, just sent in my ballot! Tried to cram in a little last minute gaming, but still have so many more I could have tried.

methanietanner, Sunday, 19 March 2017 17:17 (seven years ago) link

A few more hours of Hitman and/or Battlefield One isn't going to make a huge difference to my ballot at this pt so I've voted. Excited for the rollout.

Mordy, Sunday, 19 March 2017 17:35 (seven years ago) link

just sent mine

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 20 March 2017 01:36 (seven years ago) link

euler yes, have yours.

got 5 more today, prob the 5 who posted that they sent them in this thread! puts me at 14 ballots. y'all got tomorrow too, i doubt i'll get 6 more (i would liek to ahve 20!) but we'll see.

why ruin a good tradition? (Will M.), Monday, 20 March 2017 03:11 (seven years ago) link

i probably wasn't gonna run top 77 because of the low turnout and then i looked and lol not even 77 games received points!

why ruin a good tradition? (Will M.), Monday, 20 March 2017 03:16 (seven years ago) link

poor year imo but even still i had 5 more games i would've liked to throw points to that didn't make my ballot

Mordy, Monday, 20 March 2017 03:20 (seven years ago) link

i felt like it was a deep year with no absolute barnstormers, next year gonna be pretty different tho!

just hope this turnout isn't a portent for the one i still love doing, which is the continuing X generation polls around september. SNES era was probably the peak of interest, next one is ps1/n64/etc

why ruin a good tradition? (Will M.), Monday, 20 March 2017 03:28 (seven years ago) link

i just opened the 4th gen one again and am slowly scrolling thru the results because i forget who won and it's fun the second time too!

why ruin a good tradition? (Will M.), Monday, 20 March 2017 03:31 (seven years ago) link

PS1/N64 both strike me as fertile ground for "my first console" - certainly I'll be all over that poll.

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 20 March 2017 08:17 (seven years ago) link

I'm still to submit one, and will before midnight US if not before midnight UK. Got a feeling all my votes will be for games nobody else even played though, this year.

JimD, Monday, 20 March 2017 15:53 (seven years ago) link
