crappy UK internet censorship filters to protect children

I really thought these plans would be abandoned because any software for blocking adult content has always been too clumsy, but apparently Sky are doing it over the next two weeks and other service providers are being pressured to follow.

The main thing being blocked is obviously pornography but I was surprised that gambling, violence, tobacco, drugs, anorexia and terrorism content is being targeted too.

I wonder what sort of violence will be included and why gambling is prioritized so much if children won't even have bank accounts to gamble with?

There's been criticism of how lots of sites will be accidentally blocked. Sites like charities for victims of abuse, health sites, LGBT topics or sites about Essex, Sussex and Middlesex. Will the service providers go around unblocking these things? Some believe anything involving homosexuality is actually being intentionally targeted too.

Some service providers will switch the blocking on automatically and you have to ask them to turn it off and some have to be asked for the blocking to be turned on. The latter obviously makes more sense because it's mostly families who are going to want this, it doesn't make sense to change it for everyone.
Some suspect that those who ask for censoring to be switched off will be spied on. I really hope that isn't true.

I don't know how you change the settings yet and if it will be different for each service provider. If you have to phone them or just do it online?

I have Sky at my mother's house and I want to go around testing what is blocked before I change it.

Couldn't find any other threads about this and I've probably made some mistakes and this is all very vague based on what I know. I've just read about this occasionally in Guardian.
