There was this Halloween many years ago where I was at some friends' house, getting ready to go to a big party that featured barrels of PGA.

The older sister of one of my friends stopped by briefly with her husband and two kids. The four-year-old was dressed like Blue from Blue's Clues.

I remember sitting on the couch, watching this woman who was the same age as me, adjusting her son's costume and for the first time, I felt a little jealous of people with kids and responsibility.

Anyway, 15 years later, I'm still jealous of that woman and her husband. Primarily because they're 40 years old now, but with grown children out of the house.

I love babies and toddlers in superhero costumes.

we didn't get to hold our guys for the first 24 hours due to various timing issues re: rights surrendering so I'm mad jealous of you

We were actually in the room with birth mom - not during the delivery but soon after and spent part of the night and the next day with her and her girlfriend (long story). She had filed her intent to relinquish form which gave us a lot of access, and she wanted us to do the "parent stuff" as soon as possible.

We have a really close relationship with her now - she, her sister, mom, grandma, and great-grandma came to our rental house the day after she was released to see him and sort of come to terms with it, and she came and held him and we all cried yesterday after her rights were terminated before we drove the 75 miles home. I'm actually older than her mother so she sort feels like our daughter in a weird way now.
