The Rad film/soundtrack is how I discovered Sparks as a wide-eyed 13 year old. Granted it took me a few years to explore the catalogue further, but I have this film to thank for the introduction.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 11 October 2014 05:10 (nine years ago) link

(Also, I've seen Rad at least 20-30 times, but only once since the 90s.)

Starland Vocal Gland (sic), Saturday, 11 October 2014 07:33 (nine years ago) link

am i right in thinking that the My So Called Life tape only has two measly episodes on it?? i first saw The Simpsons on a similarly miserly twofer tape back in the day. it's another world innit.

Individual tapes couldn't hold a lot in SP (best quality) mode. I think that was one of the biggest reasons TV on DVD became such a thing because you could a season of, say, MASH on three discs in a little box for $40 (or around $15 now) as opposed to around twelve tapes from a subscription service for $19.95 a cassette.

i can't believe i'm debating whether to note that these clips from the angela lansbury workout video might not be safe for work, but it opens with her rubbing lotion on herself and ends with her in the bathtub giving her feelings on post-menopausal sex, so...

none of those tracks are familiar. except Luther obvs. were they hits?

Give Me The Reason does that classic 80s thing where the act interacts with clips from the film.

ruthless people

I wasn't aware of ordinary people so you actually had me fooled for a second re it being a sequel & I was quite into the idea

grayson m'razz (wins), Saturday, 11 October 2014 23:48 (nine years ago) link

XP The Springsteen track was a BITUSA leftover. They must have had a really sweet deal with CBS to land exclusives from Mick, Bruce, Billy etc.

"Give Me the Reason" is one of Vandross' best. Even Alex in NYC loves it!
