mine is a spam-infested hotmail account. about once a month i login to make sure nothing important found its way there - so i often get ilxmail weeks late.

mine is America On-Line. anything you send will be transmitted to me via 2400 baud connection.

mine is also an old porn addy that's "disappeared" i demand relief from ilx mods

(shrugs) It seems more likely to be useful than polling which condiment ilxors think is the most vile.

It might indicate the amount of need for a feature allowing ilxors to update their associated email account. It might give us an idea of how likely our ilxmail messages are to be read, as opposed to starting a thread called "Hey! ILXNAME HERE! Come here, I need you."

As always, you can choose to vote or not vote, and it's anonymous. So I doubt it's going to cause anyone a real life problem to ask the q.

Valid, but spam-clogged. Chances are unless someone tells me they're writing to me there, I won't see it for months if at all.

I can't sign into mine as it means signing out of my real one and I can't remember the password for the real one but don't want to change it

mine's the one I use to sign up for coupons and rewards cards, I only check it like once a month. i keep meaning to set up a filter to forward ilx mail, but whenever I log in I get distracted by all the sales I didn't know about and forget to do it.

My last 2 or 3 ILX accounts were created off deliberate "use once and destroy" email addresses. Because, y'know... just a few too many instances of lurkers or even regulars sending me hateful screeds about How! Angry! That thing I said! Made! Them! and I can really live without that kind of thing in my life any more.

My regular email hasn't changed in about 10 years or so, so I figure most people who need to get in contact with me already know how.

ILX is pretty much my only long-term online "hang" where I wisely opted to use a Gmail rather than Hotmail email address. All of my Hotmails are long gone from underuse and I've forgotten most of my old passwords. I'll never be able to change the song on my MySpace front page again (RIP).

I've gotten what I guess you could call "fan mail" before but it's not a regular thing and a couple times it's been sorta creepy. This is like ~ 5x total in 9 (kill me) years though. Mordy - you really get emails from lurkers multiple times a month???

The only ilx mail I've ever received has been poll related or mod related. Early on as an ilxor, I sent someone an email to make a private aside about one of his posts and he seemed confused that I was reaching out like that.

but nothing since then, i suppose the dozens of fan mail messages have gone into the spam folder

Oh god, I never get direct messages here but I just thought to check the spam-choked email associated with my previous login and there's ILX mail from four years ago I never saw.

I've had ilx mail go to the spam folder before. Also I just want to be clear that I was not claiming to get fanmail upthread. I've just gotten a couple of unsolicited and somewhat - how you say politely - "strange" msgs over the years.

Mine's a Hotmail address which probably tells you all you need to know. Yes, I rarely look at it and it's spam-infested. Although my main current address is also on Microsoft's newer Outlook webmail, as I remain perplexed at the popularity of unintuitive-as-all-getout Gmail.

xpost Well, they don't throw out years' worth of correspondence if you forget to login every 30 days, for a start. Hotmail was ultimately just a digital shredder of my late '90s/early '00s online existence.

Does Google keeps your account active if you don't log on for years?

My first webmail account in the mid-'90s was on usa.net which went defunct and *everybody* lost all their correspondence. Also, I have another old Hotmail account where I seem to have lost most of my outgoing email although it has 10 years of incoming mail. (and yes, it's set to save all my outgoing mail).

About five years ago my email account was deleted (moved ISP). Not bothered to change my name.

I used to get the odd email, always quite nice - got one from a free jazz fan from Chile, another from the daughter of a drummer I wrote about on ilx - saying she was moved! I count this as a life highlight obv.

Few others from past regulars, nothing hateful or anything.

Oh that's right! Just a couple weeks ago I got an email from the spouse (?) of a musician I posted about on ilx once. She corrected me on some biographical facts (which as far as I can tell I just copied off of wikipedia or something).

Thread reminded me to check where my ILXmail actually goes, and eventually I remembered it goes to an address I hadn't checked for a while, which turned out to have a full mailbox and probably have been rejecting emails for an unknown period because of it

think it still works now I've deleted a billion "special offers! this weekend only!" emails from many weekends ago tho

so I probably ought to tick "never look at it" but my head is now full of good intentions to check it more often and I think I'll let this delusion nudge my vote up to "may take a while" (though tbh if I don't see a non-promotional email within a week of it arriving it will be lost forever among the Amazon and Sainsbury's and That One Gift Tat Shop You Used Nine Christmases Ago Who Email You About New Products Every Day etc)

Based on the response, the great majority of ilx emails remain valid, but the majority of these are rarely or never examined. Those who, like me, have dead addresses which cannot be updated make up about 20% of ilxors.

My conclusion: if you try to send a personal email message via ilx, the odds are 2-1 against it being seen in a timely way. With odds like that, the failure rate will probably result in very few attempts to use that feature.

My ILX login email address is long dead and gone. I've never understood why there's no option to change it, I wouldn't think that'd be too hard to code?

mine's an AOL address that I registered when I was a kid in 1998. I logged into it for the first time in ≈ 4 months and was greeted by an enthusiastic WELCOME TO AOL popup; all of my contacts and messages (probably just spam and ox gallstones...) have been purged, but I guess I reactivated it logging back in, so I'm now free to receive webmails I might not ever read.
