markers, Monday, 28 July 2014 22:59 (nine years ago) link

mostly poland spring and polar, btw

markers, Monday, 28 July 2014 23:00 (nine years ago) link

what's your favorite polar flavor! i just bought a bottle of the limited edition pomegranate sangria. (i have also been hoarding the fudge cheesecake that came out last winter)

maura, Monday, 28 July 2014 23:39 (nine years ago) link

omg. i don't know if i have one, but i usually get the lemon, lime, or "orange" or whatever that one is

markers, Monday, 28 July 2014 23:50 (nine years ago) link

let's see if i drink the whole liter

markers, Thursday, 31 July 2014 01:43 (nine years ago) link

seltzer was my favorite. can't drink it anymore b/c of acid reflux and other reasons, but asking for complimentary seltzer instead of water was something my parents instilled in me whenever we went to diners and delis.

polar strawberry watermelon is so good, need to hoard this before the end of the summer when they stop carrying it

ciderpress, Tuesday, 8 September 2015 03:38 (eight years ago) link

also got a bottle of blueberry lemonade flavor which i hadn't seen before today but is also in the limited-edition summer lineup

ciderpress, Tuesday, 8 September 2015 03:38 (eight years ago) link

pom sangria as mentioned upthread is p killer too

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 8 September 2015 03:41 (eight years ago) link

The Strawberry watermelon is definitely my favorite though I also like the other two mentioned. The Pom Sangria was a repeat summer flavor from last year. According to their FB page "Summer has left the building. We stopped production of summer seasonals. Time to start hoarding." Get on it ciderpress. I'm pretty serious about polar seltzer guys.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 8 September 2015 12:22 (eight years ago) link

I'm really glad they've mostly stopped with the disgusting winter flavors. I always try them all because I have to but they went too far with the pumpkin spice and cinnamon stick ones a few years back. Potpourri is not refreshing!

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 8 September 2015 12:24 (eight years ago) link

polar winter flavors are here btw
so far i have found:

'winter citrus and berry' (tastes like grapefruit + mixed berry)
tart cherry and lime
cranberry clementine (v good, winner of this batch imo)
strawberry champagne
blackberry apple

whats the deal with la croix this stuff is suddenly everywhere and i hadn't ever seem it before this year

ciderpress, Saturday, 28 May 2016 20:53 (seven years ago) link

Probably just some new subsidiary/brand owned by a mega-huge multinational. They're the ones who control bottling plants, distribution channels and shelf space. Check the tiny print on the label.

oh hey this is a thread!!!

maura, Monday, 25 June 2018 10:28 (five years ago) link

the la croix paranoia a few posts back is hilarious. that shit has been around forever - i remember seeing cans in college

LaCroix was introduced in 1981 by G. Heileman Brewing Company in La Crosse, Wisconsin as one of the first "Anti-Perrier" brands.[3] Meant to appeal to sparkling water consumers who were put off by Perrier's "snobbish positioning," LaCroix marketed to its niche by imaging itself as an "all occasion" beverage.[3] The beverage fared well in popularity and sales in the surrounding Midwest region for the following decade and by 1992, the brand was estimated to be worth $25 million.[4] However, in the same year, due to Heileman's admitted lack of experience outside the beer market, it was forced to sell the brand to National Beverage (then Winterbrook).[4]

maura, Monday, 25 June 2018 10:30 (five years ago) link

polar forever tho

hal’s is pretty good

and i like the perrier slim cans

maura, Monday, 25 June 2018 10:31 (five years ago) link

Hal’s I only see in liter-sized plastic bottles
12 oz can is the ideal size / container material imho

calstars, Monday, 25 June 2018 15:25 (five years ago) link

Oh yeah LaCroix is ancient. Coincidentally we used to know a family in our town whose last name was LaCroix and they pronounced it just like the beverage too. (Unrelated afaik but similarly subject to Midwestern mis-pronunciation).

There's more Italy than necessary. (in orbit), Monday, 25 June 2018 15:54 (five years ago) link

my stance used to be that lacroix is poorly carbonated, inferior seltzer, which it still basically is but the mure pepino is good

aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Monday, 25 June 2018 16:21 (five years ago) link

I am a sparkling water princess and find Polar and LaCroix wanting. Bubble texture is inferior and taste is plain tap vs delicious and perfect Pellegrino.

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Monday, 25 June 2018 16:56 (five years ago) link

Whole Foods Italian Sparkling is an adequate (and cheaper) Pellegrino alternative.

I don't do flavored water.

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Monday, 25 June 2018 16:57 (five years ago) link

Ah see
I’m all about the flavors
Though I wonder what “natural essence” is and if it’s going to coalesce in my system and give me cancer down the road

calstars, Monday, 25 June 2018 17:00 (five years ago) link

yeah I don't like flavors in seltzer generally, just that one is good.

(all of this makes me come off really snobbish I realize but imo the perfect amount of carbonation is in regular old schweppes/canada dry)

aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Monday, 25 June 2018 17:13 (five years ago) link

i can only drink the polar liters! can't hang with cans

maura, Monday, 25 June 2018 23:19 (five years ago) link

Hahaha

I spotted the blueberry lemonade and pomegranate flavors, will check them out.

my dream flavor is rhubarb

calstars, Monday, 25 June 2018 23:36 (five years ago) link

best polar seasonal ever was fudge cheesecake, which tasted like a milk-free egg cream

maura, Monday, 25 June 2018 23:42 (five years ago) link

strongly in the katherine camp re carbonation. my friend's office kitchen is stocked with lacroix unflavored and it always just seems like a defective flat batch.

It never even occurred to me to think about which seltzer has better bubbles. I don't know that I've ever actually had san p tho. Will try.

The Key Lime la croix is amazing just FYI but I normally reach for Polar.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 15:35 (five years ago) link

Someone mentioned Rhubarb and while this isn't seltzer it is delicious:

Dat wuz me
Saw that at the store and almost picked it up but was put off by the apples - imagining a 80/20 apple / rhubarb split. But will try.

maura, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 17:31 (five years ago) link

Finally getting around to the cartston rhubarb and as mentioned it’s not a seltzer. 23 grams of sugar. I think they could halve that but that’s just my taste. Anyway it’s delicious as is too. Love the ‘barb

"Vintage" brand seltzer is awful. Avoid at all costs.

I'm embarking on a Canada Dry vs. Schwepp's head to head and will report back.

a good ad for Truly Hard Seltzer would be Kanye sitting around his ranch all depressed and frustrated, tweeting a bunch of garbage, working halfheartedly on some handwritten fonts, a tumbleweed rolls by, he sighs and jumps up and screams ENOUGH!!! and texts Dave Chappelle and Justin Bieber who immediately fly out on their private planes and show up at the ranch with a case of ice cold Trulies and then suddenly they're all having a blast, lollin', taking selfies, skateboarding and laying down tracks for Donda: With Child

and then it could be like, "Truly Hard Seltzer: here's to Truly good friends who don't nag you about taking your Seroquel like your nag wife!"
