Ideas for ILX

Load 100 previous messages option. I noticed that the Saturday Night Live thread had got loads of new posts, but missed the initial posts which revived it, so had to open all 9000+ posts to see what kicked off the discussion.

This kind of already exists. If you click a post you can increment the URL to get earlier posts.

Step 1: Click the "link" tag at the end of a post.
Step 2: the URL of this new page will contain something in the middle that says "bookmarkedmessageid=8701535" (but the number will be different.)
Step 3: Decrease that number a little bit and you get the thread loaded from an earlier point. Usually 1000 or is a good number (so in this case you would change the number to 8700535).

What I would love for ILX (and I know this has been mentioned before) would be on the Search Page if you could order results by "Most Recently Updated", not just Most Relevant, Newest, or Oldest. That way if there's multiple threads on Godzilla or whatever you can find the one that people have been using recently.

can someone remind me what the trick is for searching a particular phrase? I searched “son of saul” (in quotes, looking for discussion about the film fwiw), and the results are basically any post with any of those words in them

I just did a search that looked like this:

Many different posts and threads came up, but they all contained those words — Son of Saul — in consecutive order.

k3vin, you have smart quotes in your post and probably in your query. you probably want to disable that on whatever device you're using

(smart quotes are the goofy thing that replace the double vertical ticks with curved ones on either side of what your computer things is a quote)

To illustrate the difference...

Dumb quotes are straight, meaning that open/closing marks are exactly the same: ", '
Smart quote open marks are different from closing marks: “”, ‘’

Bugs like, when I wanted to go back but clicking on "Change Style" didn't work anymore? I see what you're doing here - you want everyone trapped in a t&o madhouse!

Eventually it worked, but it took several attempts at clicking the Change Style button. It's a cool-looking stylesheet though!

That’s just a general browser caching issue for all styles on ILX, I find refreshing the page works to clear that.

it'd be cool if the page that lists all your bookmarks ever were in chronological order, with the most recently created or updated at the top or bottom

Oooh, that would be helpful. I hadn't looked at my bookmark page in a long time. Your post made me want to check it out and see if I could do a little pruning. Apparently, I have over 2,100 threads bookmarked! I developed a habit of just clicking "Bookmark" on the last post of any thread I read. I think I just need to clear them all and start over.

huh i pretty much only view bookmark snas, but look at new thread lists every few days i guess. i don't even cut my historical bookmark list because stuff doesn't get revived that often imo?

due to this pattern, the distinction bw web and zing doesn't feel so big at least to me.

it'd be useful to me b/c sometimes i want to post in a thread i can't remember the name of and that i am caught up with. such a thread might be relatively active, but not active enough that it appears on SNA, so it'd be nice if i could find near the top of my list of bookmarked threads

it's crazy the number of different websites that appear to have signed contracts with the state, or at least put in an appearance or two at the appropriate conferences, to require that kids enter four or five different username/password combos a day to take quizzes. remember to include at least one number or symbol! sometimes when you've logged in there's a friendly blob making clippy eyes at you from the margin entreating you to an audience with its AI. (tbf ixl is not one of these.) anyway we should def get in on this.

what's not to love about it? it's I times Love, I multiplied by Love. where ilx was and is founded upon the notion that I love Multiplication (x), it amazes me that just by rearranging the way we think and perceive things, it could be I getting multiplied by love (which is infinite), learning some core stem along the way

AI summaries of clusterfucks

On the search page, under "search board:", give the option to select ILM / ILE without scrolling down (either by putting them at the top of the list, or by installing a box to select them immediately). 95% of my searches are on those two boards and I suppose it's the same for others, unless there's a really popular board that has escaped my attention.

Can't believe you haven't spotted the "I Love Nabozo" board yet.

Oh I'm just glad it's there, I wouldn't want my presence to interfere with such positive feelings.
