Jimmy Mod always makes friends with women before bedding them down (ModJ), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:06 (nineteen years ago) link

I think the people tucking bootcut pants into their boots just like the lumpy calf look. "Hey baby, check out my sexy lower-leg bulges; they are like King Kong's varicose veins, only SEXIER!"

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:06 (nineteen years ago) link

i think the boot tucking is part of the whole "hippy / folk" revival that seems to be all the rage with kids these days.

If crotched ponchos come back into fashion, I am going to start a war.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:26 (nineteen years ago) link

OMG

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:26 (nineteen years ago) link

OH GOD, what a bad typo that was :(

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:27 (nineteen years ago) link

Your search - crotch poncho - did not match any documents.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:27 (nineteen years ago) link

(I am now giggling hysterically aaargh omg omg)

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:27 (nineteen years ago) link

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:27 (nineteen years ago) link

*dies laughing*

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:28 (nineteen years ago) link

i've noticed that there's a difference in acceptance of the high heels with jeans thing here in the uk. in michigan, that's totally 'trailer trash,' and so i can understand what people are talking about when they say it looks bad. but here, it's pretty much the norm. and i've seen loads of girls with jeans tucked into high-heeled boots this year, it seems to be all the rage. i think you have to be a size 0 to get away with it, though, so haven't even considered going there.

xpost-- If crotched ponchos come back into fashion, I am going to start a war.

that is such a fantastic typo. seriously, though, is the poncho not everywhere outside of london? i'm so sick of them! they hardly look good on anyone. and often worn with jeans tucked into boots, should be said...i think this look only works for sienna miller, really. and kate moss.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:31 (nineteen years ago) link

Not to break up the crotch ponchoing but unfortunately I see women wearing those ALL THE TIME on the east coast of America, Trayce. I want to set those ladies on fire :\

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:32 (nineteen years ago) link

(help me i think my wife wants one of these)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:33 (nineteen years ago) link

crotched ponchos: OMG my eyes are tearing. i cant stop laughingasdgfdghjhjkdsklglkgdl'p][];!!!!

crocheted ponchos: sadly, these are hip too. i fucking hate folkies.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:34 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah they're catching on as a fashion thing here, too, which is mega-bizarre, because I mean WTF everyone here KNOWS that ugg boots=white trash britney going to the 7-11 half asleep to buy marlboro reds (possibly for their own kids).

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:34 (nineteen years ago) link

just tell her ally will set her on fire. i wouldn't take this as an idle threat, really.

xpost to dan

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:34 (nineteen years ago) link

Dude, I'm not sure that Ally would actually try to set my wife on fire. She's kind of feisty.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:35 (nineteen years ago) link

I really don't understand why things my parents wore in 1978 have come back as acceptable fashion statements today.

xpost no, I would not set Dan's wife on fire. I did try to set someone else on fire in her presence, once. I don't think she was that pleased with all that either, but I could be wrong since she was willing to hang out with me again.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:38 (nineteen years ago) link

High heels are classic and I would wear them everyday if my feet were not so flat and I were not so lazy and if my mom had not warned me to wear sneakers on my first date ever "IN CASE I HAD TO RUN." I tend to be drunk while wearing heels so I can ignore my bleeding foot. I also do this great trick where I fall down a lot, usually on the sidewalk, in front of old Polish men, or because some FRIEND OF ALLY'S THROWS ME DOWN.

I don't do heels with jeans but am ok with this look as long as the jeans fit well and the heels are expensive. I am so shallow.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:42 (nineteen years ago) link

God, my last post was meant for the other thread obv, I am having a bad day today arent I?

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:43 (nineteen years ago) link

Ponchos, (though I haven't seen crotched ones, so I can't be totally sure) also back on the west coast.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:47 (nineteen years ago) link

*Waiting for macramé two-piece bathing suits to come back.*

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:49 (nineteen years ago) link

G-stringed ponchos are what I'm waiting for.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:49 (nineteen years ago) link

High heels on me would be questionable. Crotchless ponchos equally so.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:50 (nineteen years ago) link

Now, see, I can sorta understand a crotchless poncho on a guy...on a cold day at the Folsom Street Fair, say.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:52 (nineteen years ago) link

Heels are classic because the alternatives are hemming, stapling, or rolling up the hems of my pants (buying pants that fit is wonderful but very, very rare with the small selection of stores I've got access to). Also I know they're not fashionable, and certainly not sexy on me, but I love huge clunky platform boots. With lots of laces or buckles, preferably.

I like the idea of ponchos but the ones I see in stores are always kind of drab looking. If you're not going to have a really soft or warm or otherwise lovely poncho, you could at least make one with pretty colors, right?

Maria (Maria), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 01:14 (nineteen years ago) link

Ponchos with heels - classic or dud?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 01:16 (nineteen years ago) link

There's nothing like high heels to say to a man, "I abuse myself in public. Come join the fun."

Aimless (Aimless), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 01:24 (nineteen years ago) link

I know, I know, I feel the same about men who wear ties. I mean, talk about parading your asphyxiation fantasies in public. No wonder so many men get strangled.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 01:27 (nineteen years ago) link

I want Marilyn's clear-colored heels:

in-line image link? wtf?!

Just Kate (papa november), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:33 (nineteen years ago) link

I can't believe I let a shoe thread go this long without posting.

I've gotta jump in and define the one acceptable and really hot way of tucking your jeans into your boots: they must be motorcycle boots, and you should be wearing a motorcycle jacket.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 04:30 (nineteen years ago) link

And the jeans must not be bootcut. They must be slim fit people, pencil legs, tapered!!!!

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 04:31 (nineteen years ago) link

tapered jeans must die a horribly fiery death.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 04:44 (nineteen years ago) link

Ewww, tapered jeans are just nasty. Unless you're one of the few women with no hips- on most people they look horrible.

Heels 2" or shorter I'm fine with- no problems wearing them. It's the ones that are taller than that which I refuse to wear for more than a few hours every once in a while.

lyra (lyra), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 04:46 (nineteen years ago) link

id wear a crotch poncho before id wear tapered jeans.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 04:53 (nineteen years ago) link

if i wore tapered jeans i'd look like i was wearing a barrel around my hips. lyra is right, they look good on women with no hips, on everyone else... pearshape-city

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 04:54 (nineteen years ago) link

I think Ally's point was tapered jeans if they're going into the boots. I mean come on, shovelling flares into boots is like tucking your jumper into your undies.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:09 (nineteen years ago) link

See now this is why a crotched poncho would be ok - you could tuck that into your undies and k now I really will get me coat.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:10 (nineteen years ago) link

Crotch ponchos are everywhere in the Midwest this Christmas. I blame Jessica "My daddy's the best kisser in the world" Simpson.
I don't agree with high heels with velour tracksuit bottoms though. Declasse high.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:10 (nineteen years ago) link

there are lots of crotch ponchos here in WA too, including in the shop i work in at weekends. how am i going to keep a straight face when customers ask for a crochet poncho now?? inappropriate laughter will be all your fault trayce!

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:13 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah, dudes, don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating the wearing of tapered jeans under any circumstances besides ones I've already said are actually at least vaguely abbhorent to me. Please, let's all have a hug.

I personally won't even put on straight legged jeans for fear of BUM HEAVINESS.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:15 (nineteen years ago) link

Yes. I have huge hips anyway I don't need to look like I'm about to go fox hunting.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:17 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah my hips are on the curvy side too, i care not for making them any bigger

those little turnup cuff ones that are all the rage here at the moment are tapered i think? i would like to ban them, they are not bumflattering on most girls

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:18 (nineteen years ago) link

not saying i'm in favor of the pants-tucked-into-boots look, but what's wrong with big hips?

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:25 (nineteen years ago) link

surface noise to thread!!!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:44 (nineteen years ago) link

I am proud of my round arse, I'll have you all know.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:50 (nineteen years ago) link

hmmm... when i have a boyfriend i am usually proud of my curves too since boys dig curves i find. i lose confidence in it when i'm solo though, and then my hips seem so much bigger than my waist and it all feels horribly out of proportion.

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:53 (nineteen years ago) link

I hate my belleh, but it really is preggers-huge at the moment and out of all proportion with the rest of me, and I cant do up my pants :(

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:54 (nineteen years ago) link

we are all so different aren't we, even when i gave up smoking and got pudgy i still always had a flat belly. the weight goes straight to my bottom for me. maybe that's why i'm self-conscious about it.
