it's nice to tell a lady that her breasts look fantastic this evening, but i get away with it more since they know i don't want to touch them in a greedy manner

Thanks for the diagram, Abbott!

Tuomas, Wednesday, 8 July 2009 18:33 (fourteen years ago) link

so basically side/regular = 70's/80's?

snoball, Wednesday, 8 July 2009 18:44 (fourteen years ago) link

So of course I have now spent the last ten minutes trying to determine whether or not I have sideboobs as defined by Abbott and I can't figure it out so I'm going to assume that means that I do not. I once had a guy friend say I had awesome pointy 70's boobs. I told him I didn't think "pointy" was necessarily the word he was looking for so he switched to "perky" which I felt better about.

Okay if you aren't wearing an underwire bra do your boobs kind of get in the way of your upper arms? Mine do. (When I was going through puberty they kept going further & further to the sides & I had this totally Judy Blume fear they'd end up under my armpis by the time I'd fully 'developed'.)

kind-hearted, sensitive keytar player (Abbott), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 18:58 (fourteen years ago) link

I disagree re sideboob -- pretty sure it's just the word for side cleavage/breast reveal in certain items of clothing that cut away under the arms! Not opposed to thinking up other usages, but I think Abbott is coining something new here.

But not someone who should be dead anyway (Laurel), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 18:59 (fourteen years ago) link

Abbott - no, they don't. LOL at the Judy Blume thing.

Yeah see I always thought of it as exactly what Laurel is describing.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:01 (fourteen years ago) link

laurel's usage of side-boob is the one i've heard before

fade away & r80-8 (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:01 (fourteen years ago) link

My misunderstanding of Abbott's definition made me think of sidecars, only with boobs where the car should be.

e i think your gentleman friend meant that they were "swoop titties" which is how i wd describe 70s era breasts

fade away & r80-8 (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:03 (fourteen years ago) link

swoop titties!!! LOOOOOOOOOL

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:04 (fourteen years ago) link

okay "swoop titties" is a phrase I can support 100%

her performance (ie, her pubes) stood out for me (HI DERE), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:04 (fourteen years ago) link

"pouting" is useful too

fade away & r80-8 (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:04 (fourteen years ago) link

It's like the titties are birds-of-prey that just spotted a mouse or rabbit in the field and... SWOOP

her performance (ie, her pubes) stood out for me (HI DERE), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:06 (fourteen years ago) link

Ooh, "swoop titty" is a good one. That silhouette is the precarious state, which probably lasts for about 15 minutes in one's early-to-mid 20s, of breasts being heavy enough to round out on the bottom (and have the accompanying ski-slope curve on top) without actually sagging even a tiny bit.

But not someone who should be dead anyway (Laurel), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:06 (fourteen years ago) link

Sci-fi illustrators of the era famously used the swoop titty silhouette on female figures but in a greatly enlarged version, which would be impossible to support in the correct form under Earth gravity. Must be all that space travel.

But not someone who should be dead anyway (Laurel), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:07 (fourteen years ago) link

yes laurel that is the shape exactly

fade away & r80-8 (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:07 (fourteen years ago) link

I think I still have that but only because I don't think they're big enough to really sag yet.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:08 (fourteen years ago) link

I think "swoop titty/titties" is my new favorite descriptive phrase. Thank you Elmo.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:09 (fourteen years ago) link

i use "banana boobs" for swoop titties.

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:09 (fourteen years ago) link

i used it on another thread a while back and the term was not embraced at all.

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:10 (fourteen years ago) link

I can't imagine why not.

But not someone who should be dead anyway (Laurel), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:11 (fourteen years ago) link

hahaha banana boobs is some sort of insult I think

fade away & r80-8 (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:12 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah! Banana boobs don't sound good at all.

elongated yellow teats is all I get from that

True but that doesn't mean I want to picture breasts that look like them!

i prefer them ripe and as relatively unbruised as possible.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:17 (fourteen years ago) link

'banana boobs' I think is the idea of what I call 'tennis ball in a sock boobs.'

kind-hearted, sensitive keytar player (Abbott), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:17 (fourteen years ago) link

I feel like if a bra is worn with some regularity, anything involving figurative tennis balls and imaginary socks can be ruled out for life. I think of these as National Geographic boobs, for what are probably obvious reasons.

But not someone who should be dead anyway (Laurel), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:20 (fourteen years ago) link

"ground pointers"

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:22 (fourteen years ago) link

Laurel - as soon as I read "tennis ball in sock," all I could think was National Geographic.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:22 (fourteen years ago) link

A 1952 article in Parents magazine (then called Parents’ Magazine), which offers the bizarre suggestion that one should periodically trace the silhouette of one's daughter's breasts (presumably unclothed) to gauge their development, also exhorts parents to get their girls training bras at the first sign of puberty lest the poor kids' breasts drop.

my friends always referred to a side boob as a tithouette

no alternates to swoop titties though

I'd suggest bras are primarily a tool of fashion: they give women an approximation of the idealized female shape plus some control over jiggle, cleavage, and nipple protrusion

^^ This is what I've always thought of them as although I do know some women with really big boobs that just feel more comfortable with a bra on.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:26 (fourteen years ago) link

Usually the same ones who sleep in their bras.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:27 (fourteen years ago) link

When I was like 11 or 12 my parents gave me a sex ed book, which said you should go around looking at women's breasts so you could appreciate the variety of shapes and sizes of breasts, and I was like "ok."

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 8 July 2009 19:27 (fourteen years ago) link

Sure mom and dad, if you say I HAVE to . . .
