funnily enough I also once had a delayed arrival at ataturk on a journey between manchester and addis and my bags were late (though I was going the other way). very jealous though

Oh I had to technically be able to respond to some emails in my layover. Didn't happen anyway because I had to ride shotgun on an otherwise empty passenger bus, speeding round ataturk to make it to the flight desk, where I found they had already wrote off the chances of me getting there on time and sold the tickets on. They did get me on the flight but my luggage didn't have a chance.
Finished reading Zama on my flight and the writing style is just great. Need to see the film again to confirm but I think Martel was inspired in what she took from the novel and what she added in. I suppose the film already stands strong in its own right. If the blu ray has extended scenes, which I sort of doubt I would be very interested to watch them.
My copy of Cronenberg on Cronenberg got chored while I was at the toilet in a cafe, I found that kind of funny because it's so niche but whatever. Running a bit short on reading material now but have a couple history books to read.
Anyway my airbnb host is fab, and I've been happy to extend my time in Addis and my luggage has arrived. New Year's Eve party in Meskel square last night was amazing too. Tomorrow is north to the stone cut churches in Lalibela.
Happy Ethiopian New Year everybody!

that plane has been too damaged to fly, and we might be getting on a flight that’s due to land at 10:28, but obv won’t have any updates until after it gets onto the ground.

I work at Gatwick so I'm usually in an airport. But I'm not usually locked in a stockroom/office cos somebody with a knife is wandering around airside with a knife!
Came out of the lifts at around 2 am which are located just thru security with my trolley of stock and I could see the backs of about six security people running towards the Dept lounge. I figured that a flight had been cancelled and some passengers were refusing to leave (this happens quite often). Went into our shop to ask the other replenners if they knew what was going on but before I could say anything I heard a commotion in the corridor so went back out to have a look and saw security running back towards the staff entrance shouting at the staff at the body scanners to clear out. Looked to my left and saw some guy walking down the corridor with a big fuck off kitchen knife in his left hand shouting " which of you pussy holes wants it?"
Decided I didn' t in fact 'want it' so ducked back into the shop and let the 3 colleagues there know and the supervisor led us to the stockroom which has a keypad lock and we stayed there. Don't know if one of the chef's at the airport had just had an episode or something but it was p scary. He was roaming for a while cos a couple of our colleagues who were working in other shops joined us about ten mins later and said they' d just seen the guy as well. After another ten mins security came by and said the incident had been dealt with.

lol nice to see gatwick pretending that dude approached staff entrance where officers then tazed him. what actually happened was security let him walk through staff entrance (i don't blame them he had 2 huge knives and security are unarmed and don't have stab vests) dude then proceeded to wander around dept lounge threatening shop workers and cleaners before eventually making his way back to the staff entrance where the police arrived and tased him.

incheon has jamba juice and quiznos which is novel coming from japan

i went throigh us customs yesterdaygranted 5 planes unloaded at the same time but still - we had 4, wait no he left so 3, oop he left now too so make that 2 inspectors operating for half the entire hall ... stood in that godawful room for 90 minutes before passing throughassclownsalso they’ve overhauled every nook & cranny of that airport EXCEPT for the customs area. except for the passport kiosks it’s exactly the same as it was in 2002 when i immigrated. hated it then, hate it now
