I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.

i would guess after a hard afternoon's thought samantha bee will come to regret it, and that in the end she will end up doing a segment on it that will end with her proudly calling ivanka every other possible name that you can say on TBS, and it will be funny and feel good to watch but in the end hardly anyone will see it

I probably have said this before but the key reason why hypocrisy arguments, while completely valid, do not work is because they don't take offense to calling someone a bad word (or racist comments, or anything else), they take offense to calling someone a bad word whom they don't think deserves it.

sally field does not have a career to jeopardize anymore. it's one of the perks of getting old that it's easier to say whatever the fuck you feel like saying. as an oldster, I appreciate having this freedom. it's liberating.

So why does Bee do what she does? Just for the cash? And how mean is she allowed to be, and to whom? John Oliver (and HBO) stood up to a defamation suit for insulting an angry billionaire coal baron. Bee backed down after calling the in the public employee grifter daughter of a dickhead a bad word.

TBS barely knows what to do with Full Frontal in the first place. Last Week Tonight is one of HBO's anchor series at this point.

I would guess that Bee does what she does for a complex set of reasons, among which is earning a living, but only as one motive in a fairly long list. What Sally Field does these days is whatever she pleases. She has a lot less on the line than Bee, which makes it much easier for her. It's like playing with the House's money.

The only thing worse than a fascist president trying to get a show off the air, or stop the NFL from kneeling, or virtually anything else he wants to do, is allowing him to do it. Far more expensive and watched shows like Brooklyn Whatever and The Expanse were canceled but then picked up by others. If TBS does not have her back, like HBO has Oliver's, then she is doomed anyway and should be working on her resume.

I watch Samantha Bee every week since it started. It's informative and does political/women focused pieces that no one else is doing consistently. She has a very very diverse writing staff as well. (in answer to why she does what she does). She's "mean" on the show but none of her targets in general are undeserving. News is moving so fast it's becoming impossibleto rely on any one news source or viewpoint. No one is ever going to get it 100% without messing up and it's probably bad to think they can, and I guess that's the point of all of this Trump vomit.

"Never apologize to a right-winger for anything" seems like a good approach at least through 2020 and probably into the indefinite future.

Never apologize to anyone affiliated with the Trump admin or family because they’ll never apologize to you, and then they’ll do it to you twice as bad.
