Today I was scoping out whether there are any interesting-sounding pubs in Newark or Lincoln, and it occurred to me that I'm really really ignorant about the route of the Trent and almost totally ignorant of the towns along it. Like, I've been to Stoke a couple of times, Nottingham two or three times, Burton once, that's about it. Until about ten minutes ago I'd have guessed that the Trent flowed into the sea in The Wash, though if you'd told me if flowed into the Mersey rather than the Humber I'd probably have accepted that as true. I'm genuinely quite ashamed.

i've always enjoyed the thought that i could canoe my way from Hull to Rugeley and back rather than using the slightly less efficient rail system

I'm thinking you can probably leave the tall hat and the tattered gown to other Charter Fairgoers, but whatever floats your etc etc.
