I liked that Ben's pleading with Jacob mirrored John's ranting at the Hatch; "I did everything you asked!" etc.

Reminds me of something else that puzzled/annoyed me for ages but has probably since been explained and I haven't noticed. When Michael was tapping the numbers into the computer in the hatch, Walt starting MSN-messaging him. Even thought it wasn't meant to be connected up to anything other than whatever it was connected to (incident-preventing device, presumably) - though I can't remember how they established this. How on earth was Walt chatting to Mike that time? Esp if Walt was under constant Other surveillance and testing and that. Was it ever meant to be Walt or an Other playing a trick?

Richard telling Sun he watched all the Dharma people (inc. Jin) die. how will this square with The Incident?

I figured he was talking about the purge - which presumably didn't involve Jin et al because they aren't part of Dharma anymore since they've been exposed

xpost that wasn't Walt it was the Others communicating from er the Arrow I think? although tbh I can't remember where I got that idea from, probably lostpedia or something, so pinch of salt

Lostpedia: "It appears that Michael activated chat mode by simply banging on the keys until the computer displayed a chat interface"

Oh right then.

Locke describes a bright light, and Eko says plainly "that's not what I saw".

smokey ran his bright light scanner-y thing over juliet and kate that one time. when they were handcuffed together? so maybe that's just a different mode or something.

also he told me that juliet was the hotter of the two.

I only got 28. For some reason, I could remember random season 3 episodes but hardly any recent ones.

i got 37.

I didn't get a single episode from Season 4!

i thought i'd do better, but my brain fails this morning. took me 18 minutes to remember "through the looking glass" was the name of S3 finale.

#/.'#/'@ilikecats (g-kit), Saturday, 30 May 2009 09:36 (fifteen years ago) link

I just watched "Enter 77" and realized that I'd never seen it! It's the exact kind of Season 3 episode that everyone hated at the time (Nikki + Paolo! Chess matches! Ping-pong matches! Introducing the Flame simply to blow it up!), and yet I found it really satisfying for some reason. I miss the leisurely pace of the earlier episodes.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 3 June 2009 03:34 (fifteen years ago) link

Nah that was a good one, it introduced Mikhail! And the wacky chess computer with the Marvin Candle video! (though the Sayid flashback was just ok, sort of unnecessary by that point, like a lot of the S3 flashbacks) The bad ones were the episodes with Jack/Kate/Sawyer hostage drama and the origin of Jack's tattoos. The show was treadmilling in place badly with no real end in sight. They introduced tons of Others that season (remember the Sheriff? the chick from Deadwood? Mac from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia!) for pretty much no reason, as the vast majority of them were killed in the finale or completely forgotten. Well, at least there was the Hurley bus episode.

Nhex, Wednesday, 3 June 2009 03:46 (fifteen years ago) link

What if the whole series is ultimately about Jack's tattoos? Wouldn't that be amazing?

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 3 June 2009 05:09 (fifteen years ago) link

I would swear off tv forever.

Any ideas on what we should name the final season thread? (or whether there should be an Anticipation thread first)

ha, that's a good one. though I'd prefer one that foreshadows the inevitable cawing and internet rage at the series' inevitable mystical/illogical/ambiguous ending

seven years pass...

I've been rewatching the entire series (all the mythology weighed down the show in my memory and I had forgotten just how much FUN it is to watch), and Season 5 really holds up. It's the most carefully constructed, and though the time travel loop stuff can get confusing, I love the way themes and scenes from earlier in the season come back to play in the latter part of the season. It's impressive writing.

Also, it's a bummer that most of the actors' careers have fizzled out since the show ended. Where have you gone Josh Holloway? Surely someone can find another good role for Naveen Andrews?

I know hoes that know Ali Farka Toure (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 6 September 2016 21:06 (seven years ago) link

It's great that Season 5 handled time travel without any serious complications. And the Sawyer-Juliet episode "LaFleur" was one of the best episodes of the series. They never figured out who was shooting at them on the boats, however.
