we all thought Jin died at the end of last season.. Maybe both Sayid and Juliet will be OK? I teared up too :( Did Sawyer even manage to say "I love you too" between all those hold ons? Sad, sad, sad..

you guys, I've been behind the curve catching up with this season via DV-R up until last night

nb jacob does give locke... um... reassurance or something... hope, or belief that things happen for a reason, would probably be overstating it

other thoughts:

was a little disappointed that jacob and smokey have american accents.

looks like lapidus will be a main player next season?

yeah i lol'd when they had regular american accents back in black rock days.

we sure the other dude is smokey? isn't smokey a security system for the temple (which i thought was a temple for jacob, since there are Others there)?

i was under the impression smokey is behind all apparitions of dead/remembered people on the island

possibly smokey = apparitions, jacob = dreams.

what does dreams have to do with this?

i was just thinking of the dreams that locke used to get, and ben saying "I used to have dreams". although i suppose ben could've been lying about that.

Which ppl who were visited by "Jacob" were actually visited by "Jacob"? Since the other dude appears to be able to take on the form of others, could he not have been Jacob maneuvering the Losties into position so that he'd be able to attack Jacob? Perhaps Alanna was the only person visited by the real Jacob...? (Also maybe Hurley and Sayid...? Perhaps the ppl visited before the flight met fake Jacob and the ppl visited after the return were met by real Jacob?)

Also I'm wondering if Jacob intentionally sacrificed himself to deal with these mysterious ppl who are coming? He kind of seemed to want Ben to stab him...

it seems to me that we have not yet seen the influence of what jacob did when he visited the losties. he told kate not to steal again to keep her out of a life of crime, he told sawyer not to write the letter to stop his vendetta for revenge against sawyer, he told locke everything will be ok after losing his legs, he gave jack a candy bar(?)

the result of these visits is in a time fork we haven't seen yet.

i thought it was pretty lol as a representation of people who quit watching lost "wtf just a bunch of fuckers running around an island freaking out for no reason"

maybe jacob was trying to get jack addicted to candy instead of drugs and booze and nirvana

basically after the explosion, the time "loophole" will begin again somehow. seems like this entire drama begins with the blackrock landing on the island. and it's probably happened numerous times.

btw I disagree with whoever said the bomb was the incident, before the bomb went off it looked like they had a tiny bit of a problem

cutty otm I think but obviously the difference of opinion between jacob and the other guy is that they can change the loophole, that people don't just end up killing each other, not sure what the common goal jacob and him have though, as their diff of opinion seems to be about how to achieve something...

im sick of waiting for the losties to realize their modern lives are just a fever dream and theyre actually pirates

I have to say, tho I'll definitely watch the last season, this finale was kind of a heap of shit. The whole season's lack of quality (at least after the first few eps) was heavily underlined by how surprising the beginning of the finale was, surprising because there was action/purpose/something happening. normally the seasons build to a crescendo, they just crammed it all in here and barely had enough room to tell the story. eg sayid left rotting to death by the van etc (I know what'll solve this lame plot device we used to make you think he might die, A BIG EXPLOSION)

their modern lives have probably been manipulated over and over again for centuries!

fwiw i'm not ready to accept locke as lolpatsy for titus just yet. jacob visited him for a reason, he heard jacob speak, etc etc.

but locke is dead, the locke of last few eps is just a host

I'm not convinced that Smokey and Fake Locke are the same person (although I think it's obv that Fake Locke, Fake Christian and Fake Alex are the same person); Smokey may well be a non-sentient entity controlled by Fake X.

I guess my question is, were the Losties sent to the island to help kill Jacob or to deal with something else? Also, if Fake Locke is tied to the island, why did Jacob spend all of that time and energy maneuvering ppl onto the island? Given that Fake Locke basically said, "you wouldn't believe all the shit I've done to get to this place", it kind of implies to me that some of the Losties are there because of him; it seems kind of obvious that most of the mindfuck that is Ben's life was geared to make him hate Jacob enough to kill him and several of the Losties are directly responsible for him turning into this person (most notably Locke and Sayid).

The competing priorities here seem to be killing Jacob vs blowing up the hatch; can we trace which of the Jacob visitations set people on paths that led to those events and make any type of deduction on whether the Jacob who spurred those events was the real one?

biggest sign of a link between all these and Smokey is the french dude, Montand or whatever, getting possessed in the Rousseau flashback. that's enough for me.

btw, why did Juliet's flashback look like it takes place in the present?
