yeah...my interest in Locke has always been far outstripped by his apparent importance, so i have no problem w/ that.

The actor who plays Smokey/Black Shirt in the opening scene with Jacob looked very familiar. Anybody know who that was?

Silus from Deadwood (Titus Welliver)

question - the dude at the beginning - Jacob said they disagreed, but do you think Jacob agreed he had to die?

Comments: Hi Titus Fans, I knew Titus in high school and can tell you he was a great guy.My sister Beth was his girlfriend for a while and I got to know him fairly well. My sister still says he was the best man she was ever with. Just fyi I'am gay and one time at a party some idiots were saying fag alot and Titus told them to mind their tongues. One of the guys told Titus to fuck off,to which Titus responded which of you is the strongest? A very large linebacker stepped forward, they all started laughing and the next thing we knew Titus had punched the guy right in the mouth and down the jerk went. I can tell you the other guys just backed off. I'll never forget that, which I think is an indication as what kind of guy he is.He hated bullies.Anyway I was sorry to hear of Titus's fathers death,he too was a kind and brilliant man.

which makes the ones who got items go back to 77, but not locke and sun

Did Sayid get anything from Jacob? Other than a dead wife, obv.

"I've invested five years of my life in this damn show, thinking Locke was special. But he only thinks he's special because Richard told him because Locke told HIM. We finally see him take hold of his "destiny" and it turns out it's NotLocke, it's some other...thing....person...whatever. Wow. I guess John Locke died as he lived -- a gullible fool with no life purpose. Fuck."

But Locke remembered being strangled to death. He's still Locke to some degree.

Hmm that cliff hanger sucked, didnt leave me thinking omg it left me thinking f this shit.

Also how long so corpses stay looking so fresh?

X-101, Thursday, 14 May 2009 08:07 (fifteen years ago) link

titus locke remembered ben's memory of strangling locke, duh

cutty, Thursday, 14 May 2009 09:47 (fifteen years ago) link

i have no idea whether this was a good or bad finale. it was lols mostly, like locke dropping out of the building behind Jacob while he's reading flannery o'connor.

Roz, Thursday, 14 May 2009 11:36 (fifteen years ago) link

i like the whole loophole idea. it was a theory of mine way back that these characters have been playing these roles out over and over ad infinitium. seems to be the direction s6 is going.

cutty, Thursday, 14 May 2009 11:40 (fifteen years ago) link

thought all the actual jacob/locke/ben stuff was cool; the relationship shit seemed even stupider than usual. like seriously how many times can juliette and kate flip-flop their attitudes in one episode? lol women are fickle. their motivations make absolutely no sense anymore at this point

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 14 May 2009 11:44 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah kate and juliet changing their minds every two seconds was annoying and made no sense. it's obvs they stuck in the juliet flashback (which was the only one that didn't involve jacob) just so they could have a reason why she would change her mind. lame.

Roz, Thursday, 14 May 2009 11:46 (fifteen years ago) link

also wtf no desmond? is this his punishment for motorboating?

Roz, Thursday, 14 May 2009 11:50 (fifteen years ago) link

too bad juliet didn't have that flashback any other time in the past three years

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 14 May 2009 11:51 (fifteen years ago) link

things i dug:

1. jacob/ben/locke/black rock/shadow of the statue stuff
2. hey jacob is the dude from dexter
3. hey jacob's frenemy is the dude from deadwood
4. sawyer and jack punch-up
5. richard knocking out eloise
6. "I'm a Pisces."
7. Juliet being a badass in the sub.
8. NKOTB lunchbox
9. Rose and Bernard reappearance was pointless but i lol'd at "son of a bitch" and "we're retired."
10. the driveshaft ring to rule them all.
11. black L O S T on white background title card

things that were crap:

1. the love square
2. no desmond
3. no older eloise or widmore
4. jack counting to five - did he get his dumb tattoo yet?
5. still not knowing how christian fits into all of this (although i guess he's like whatever NotLocke is?)
6. sawyer not giving phil or radzinsky a proper beatdown.
7. rose and bernard were still pointless.
8. i wish they had brought in jacob before because more than ever it looks like they pulled his story out of their asses, like oh he's been in their lives all this time. he's almost a one-man nikki and paolo.

Roz, Thursday, 14 May 2009 12:28 (fifteen years ago) link

why didn't you tell me that before i took jack out in the jungle to beat him up

mermaphrodite (nickalicious), Thursday, 14 May 2009 13:14 (fifteen years ago) link

tell me you guys didn't cry when juliet got pulled down the hole

mermaphrodite (nickalicious), Thursday, 14 May 2009 13:15 (fifteen years ago) link

that was sad. but seeing her bloodied and activating the bomb with a rock was worth it.

cutty, Thursday, 14 May 2009 13:16 (fifteen years ago) link

(i love her)

cutty, Thursday, 14 May 2009 13:16 (fifteen years ago) link

so juliet's boomboom happened well after the incident right and that means she did change everything or something like that right?

mermaphrodite (nickalicious), Thursday, 14 May 2009 13:16 (fifteen years ago) link

Nope I think Miles is right and the hydrogen bomb is the incident.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 14 May 2009 13:21 (fifteen years ago) link

if the whole incident was some machinery getting pulled down into a hole, doesn't seem like it would have been that big of a deal

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 14 May 2009 13:23 (fifteen years ago) link

i was tearing up a bit when juliet fell down. :( maybe what she did was a bit like what the failsafe key did? and just like the failsafe key temporarily transported desmond to his past, then maybe the h-bomb had enough energy to transport all our castaways to either 2004/2008.

Roz, Thursday, 14 May 2009 13:23 (fifteen years ago) link

Lostpedia:

Jacob is first seen in the 1800s residing in his chamber in the statue. He is busy weaving a tapestry with a loom. It appears to be Egyptian. He exits the chamber and catches a red herring off the coast of the statue, then fries it up and eats it.

lol the writers are bastards.

we all thought Jin died at the end of last season.. Maybe both Sayid and Juliet will be OK? I teared up too :( Did Sawyer even manage to say "I love you too" between all those hold ons? Sad, sad, sad..

you guys, I've been behind the curve catching up with this season via DV-R up until last night

dead body of locke outside statue.. dead body of jacob inside it.. could this add up to two lockes walking across possessed by jacob & by mystery guy?

that would be fun. twin fight!

BAD TWIN!

Roz, Thursday, 14 May 2009 15:09 (fifteen years ago) link

nb jacob does give locke... um... reassurance or something... hope, or belief that things happen for a reason, would probably be overstating it

other thoughts:

was a little disappointed that jacob and smokey have american accents.

looks like lapidus will be a main player next season?

cutty, Thursday, 14 May 2009 15:21 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah i lol'd when they had regular american accents back in black rock days.

we sure the other dude is smokey? isn't smokey a security system for the temple (which i thought was a temple for jacob, since there are Others there)?

Roz, Thursday, 14 May 2009 15:28 (fifteen years ago) link

i was under the impression smokey is behind all apparitions of dead/remembered people on the island

cutty, Thursday, 14 May 2009 15:29 (fifteen years ago) link

hmmm i guess so. so that makes smokey jacob's enemy?

Roz, Thursday, 14 May 2009 15:32 (fifteen years ago) link

possibly smokey = apparitions, jacob = dreams.

Roz, Thursday, 14 May 2009 15:33 (fifteen years ago) link

what does dreams have to do with this?

cutty, Thursday, 14 May 2009 15:50 (fifteen years ago) link

i was just thinking of the dreams that locke used to get, and ben saying "I used to have dreams". although i suppose ben could've been lying about that.

"For five years I've watched this show, Darlton. I've done everything you said. The videocasts, the DVDs, the stupid spoiler sites. And everytime I wanted to know something interesting or useful about the island you said I had to wait, I had to be patient. And for what? WHAT IS SO WRONG WITH ME? Now I'm going to knife you both"

Local Garda, Thursday, 14 May 2009 15:56 (fifteen years ago) link

The thing twisting my head is this:

Which ppl who were visited by "Jacob" were actually visited by "Jacob"? Since the other dude appears to be able to take on the form of others, could he not have been Jacob maneuvering the Losties into position so that he'd be able to attack Jacob? Perhaps Alanna was the only person visited by the real Jacob...? (Also maybe Hurley and Sayid...? Perhaps the ppl visited before the flight met fake Jacob and the ppl visited after the return were met by real Jacob?)

Also I'm wondering if Jacob intentionally sacrificed himself to deal with these mysterious ppl who are coming? He kind of seemed to want Ben to stab him...

Apologies if this was all talked about upthread but no way am I loading all answers.
