I hope that's not it. Daniel dying in this way just seems really stupid to me right now.

There was something in one of the podcasts at the start of the season which confirmed it was an 815-er, apparently.

was a rumour that it was going to be someone who was on flight 815. xp

I think I could take a Sayid death if it means an awesome face-off with Ben full of bitter recriminations and anger and ends with Ben pumping several bullets into his chest in cold blood.

the way Daniel died seemed really stupid at the time, too. the worst part about watching that episode online was seeing how much time was left in the episode when he got shot, and thinking "either this is a really long death scene or they're going to throw some awesome twist/reveal in at the last minute...now, it's just a slow stupid death scene."

in the scene's defence, being shot by your mum who is also carrying unborn you is pretty awesome

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 15:38 (fifteen years ago) link

but as annoying as i found dan's voice it's a totally not cool way for him to exit (and esp. weird after having been missing from the preceding 3 or 4 episodes), so from the second he was shot i just figured he will return somehow.

Was this revealed? I thought Daniel had already been born, unless he was an Oxford professor at the age of 19.

Does everyone hate Dan's voice? I always liked it.

i think he... was?

s1ocki, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 15:48 (fifteen years ago) link

wasn't the whole thing that he was like the youngest oxford professor ever?

s1ocki, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 15:48 (fifteen years ago) link

otm I think

Local Garda, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 15:49 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, I just hadn't imagined he was that young!

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 15:50 (fifteen years ago) link

I was watching that episode with closed captioning on (had lots of friends over.. we're loud) and Widmore tells Ellie she shouldn't bring them to Jughead "in {her} condition"

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 15:51 (fifteen years ago) link

Ah, missed that then.

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 15:51 (fifteen years ago) link

In '77? How old is he in '04 or whatever?

SQUIRREL WITH A PEOPLE FACE (╓abies), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 15:53 (fifteen years ago) link

Uh, do the math?

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 15:59 (fifteen years ago) link

I think he means how old is he supposed to be. We don't know, but we did see toddler Charlotte running around on the island, so that implies she would be older than Daniel, which I would never have guessed but hey, the actor playing Miles is 40..

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 16:00 (fifteen years ago) link

if the island wants him to be mid-30s

rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 16:02 (fifteen years ago) link

Actually what happened was I totally misread jaymc's post and thought he was suggesting Dan was a 19 yr old Oxford professor...in 1977.

And that everybody was agreeing with him.

oops lol

SQUIRREL WITH A PEOPLE FACE (╓abies), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 16:12 (fifteen years ago) link

at one point widmore puts his hand on her belly. come on people, watch the show.

cutty, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 16:16 (fifteen years ago) link

I think the writers have already admitted that they fucked up over Charlotte's age.

Enormous Epic (Matt DC), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 16:18 (fifteen years ago) link

If she was about 5 in 1977, she'd be 32 in 2004 which looked right to me.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 16:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah but in an earlier episode Ben recapped her life and claimed she was a lot younger.

because the island wanted them to

s1ocki, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 16:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Ben just got his maths wrong (he was under pressure) is all. Charlotte didn't point this out because she liked the idea of being a few years younger.

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 16:30 (fifteen years ago) link

lol

cutty, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 16:32 (fifteen years ago) link

ITS JUST LIKE REAL LIFE

cutty, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 16:33 (fifteen years ago) link

i love that Charlotte left the island at an early age (was Daniel only warning her to leave personally in the hope that she would somehow not return? didn't he figure she'd be evacuated anyway?) but later in life got into Geronimo Jackson ("turn it up!") anyway.

overall it was an good episode but they must be saving the best for the last season

Mulvaney, Thursday, 14 May 2009 03:52 (fifteen years ago) link

this was my favorite comment on tv without pity's message board so far -

"I've invested five years of my life in this damn show, thinking Locke was special. But he only thinks he's special because Richard told him because Locke told HIM. We finally see him take hold of his "destiny" and it turns out it's NotLocke, it's some other...thing....person...whatever. Wow. I guess John Locke died as he lived -- a gullible fool with no life purpose. Fuck."

BleepBot, Thursday, 14 May 2009 03:55 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah...my interest in Locke has always been far outstripped by his apparent importance, so i have no problem w/ that.

The actor who plays Smokey/Black Shirt in the opening scene with Jacob looked very familiar. Anybody know who that was?

resistance is feudal (WmC), Thursday, 14 May 2009 04:02 (fifteen years ago) link

Silus from Deadwood (Titus Welliver)

BleepBot, Thursday, 14 May 2009 04:05 (fifteen years ago) link

question - the dude at the beginning - Jacob said they disagreed, but do you think Jacob agreed he had to die?
