x-post: yea, the best waiters are always foodies. 'i WILL not serve that,' etc. my first day at Mas a guy from the coffee company came to teach us how best to froth the milk on a cappucino haha.. good management, i'm glad they're doing well. (also, one of the waitresses there is the tattooed girl from the orgy scene in Shortbus.)

why so much talk about OTTO? If one wants Batali and Babbo's is too expensive, go to LUPA (although he has the least input there of any of his nyc restaurants). or just go for the tartufo. mmmmm..

poortheatre, Thursday, 10 April 2008 00:32 (sixteen years ago) link

lupa is yum!

tehresa, Thursday, 10 April 2008 00:34 (sixteen years ago) link

the food was good, but lupa's menu pissed me off. if you use so many obscure italian food phrases that your menu requires a full-page glossary, then you are trying too hard

mookieproof, Thursday, 10 April 2008 02:58 (sixteen years ago) link

harumph

mookieproof, Thursday, 10 April 2008 02:58 (sixteen years ago) link

i think the glossary is probably intended to be educational/proselytizing more than included out of necessity

gabbneb, Thursday, 10 April 2008 03:13 (sixteen years ago) link

lupa is one of my favorites, and all things considered i actually prefer it to babbo based on my one meal at the latter. there was so much talk about otto because a few people asked about it.

on to more pressing matters: oyster fap! come on!

lauren, Thursday, 10 April 2008 13:37 (sixteen years ago) link

sanskrit, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 21:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Gothamist loves shake shack therefore it is for boring people

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 21:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Shake Shack's food isn't amazing, but it's yummy enough and not too expensive, and you can't beat the scenery. An event on the green augments the experience, but can make waiting on line even more frustrating.

gabbneb, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 21:54 (sixteen years ago) link

the key is to send someone through the short line to fetch beers that you drink while you're waiting in the long line

I've gone at 7pm a few times and never had to wait more than 25 or 30 minutes. burgers are grate.

dmr, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 21:59 (sixteen years ago) link

there's shake shack set to open on the UWS by the natural history museum, but I think it's been postponed for awhile. suppose I will drag my lazy housebound butt over there to try it when it does.

m coleman, Thursday, 24 April 2008 12:26 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah when we visited we went to shake shack at abt 2pm on a cloudy day and only had to wait like 15 min. the burger was v good, way better than anything i can get in london. also went to that place that's in the parker meridien but i think i might have preferred the shake shack one.

t_g, Thursday, 24 April 2008 12:28 (sixteen years ago) link

I will still rep for the CSD, was there in december and it is still a good diner, selling good diner food and one of the only places to eat in that neighborhood full stop.

Ed, Thursday, 24 April 2008 12:36 (sixteen years ago) link

kinda expensive (ok, really expensive) but the tasting menu at Eleven Madison Park was the best meal i've had in nyc. also the chef is kinda cute

Big piece on Florent. I'm gonna make a farewell trip next month ;_;

G00blar, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 12:34 (sixteen years ago) link

The oyster special at that one bar is a happy hour thing, so it's only Mon-Thurs I think. Next week?

Laurel, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 13:23 (sixteen years ago) link

guys has anyone been to ippudo yet?

the tonkatsu ramen is fantastic - might be the best ramen in nyc, but after tax and tip it came out to $17! SEVENTEEN DOLLARS for a bowl of ramen...... .... . . .

phil-two, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 13:36 (sixteen years ago) link

there is a place called jolie in brooklyn heights or cobble hill or something that supposedly has very good oysters, and $1 oyster special on wednesday PLUS 2-1 drinks for ladies. i am very tempted.

yeah $17 for a bowl of noodles seems ridiculous, but i still want to try it at least once. there has been an hour wait every time i've tried to go though, and i've been too hungry.

bell_labs, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 14:35 (sixteen years ago) link

i think tonight though i am going to order from plump dumpling, mostly because they have the cutest menu i've ever seen

i have been craving dumplings for 2 weeks

bell_labs, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 14:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Will they have oyster special on memorial day evening? If so why not then?

Ed, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 15:39 (sixteen years ago) link

was gonna say the same thing, if they're open might be a great time to go. I've got Monday off.

dmr, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 18:22 (sixteen years ago) link

That's sad about Florent - it was always neat to end a night out with mussels at 4:45am.

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 18:23 (sixteen years ago) link

awww we shoudl have a florent fap. it is so yum.

Let me know me if anything oyster-related is happening.

Virginia Plain, Friday, 23 May 2008 01:43 (sixteen years ago) link

awww we shoudl have a florent fap. it is so yum.

i never thought florent was particularly that yummy. its just that it was there and open at 4am and always (well, until more recently) had a pretty good vibe or whatever. i guess i'll miss it for nostalgia or whatever but its not like ive been there in 4 years or so anwyay since the meatpacking district turned into hell.

phil-two, Friday, 23 May 2008 04:53 (sixteen years ago) link

i need a big, juicy steak, a beautiful glass of wine and a scrumptious salad in a really elegant but woodsy, darkly-lit restaurant.

Surmounter, Sunday, 25 May 2008 15:37 (fifteen years ago) link

Try Lodge on Havemeyer in Williamsburg.

felicity, Sunday, 25 May 2008 15:54 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, that's pretty cozy.
