Loved the heroes returning feeling of this episode - the blissfully-take-charge Locke as well as Jack and Sayid just having a complete "fuck this island, fuck everyone on it" mission for the first time in ages. And the finale "to action" theme as everyone said!

The Sun/Jin story is so boring. WHO CARES

Local Garda, Thursday, 7 May 2009 14:40 (fifteen years ago) link

"if there's any chance to find my husband Jin ... " is the new "I'm not leaving without my boy!"

dmr, Thursday, 7 May 2009 14:42 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah exactly. so tedious...

Local Garda, Thursday, 7 May 2009 14:42 (fifteen years ago) link

i don't mind the Sun/Jin thing so much in and of itself, but has there been any kind of explanation or compelling theory why Sun ended up on the island in '07 instead of '77? i mean Ben wasn't part of the O6 and Locke was dead so i can see them being exceptions for whatever reason, but what would even begin to explain that, aside from they just want to delay the inevitable tearful reunion?

unban cowboy (some dude), Thursday, 7 May 2009 14:43 (fifteen years ago) link

not feelin '77 ellie. her mouth is weird. it's like she has braces but she doesn't?

invisalign try it u will like it

(they finally figured out product placement on an island!)

tehresa, Thursday, 7 May 2009 14:44 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't think anyone mentioned this yet and it's probably not even that important considering there's only two hours left, but the fact the bomb is right under the Dharma village is kind of a weird non-reveal - much like Daniel says in Jughead about the safety of burying it, I guess since that village/area is fully intact 30 years later it must mean they don't blow it up, right?

With Sun I'm guessing the island had no reason to send her back to '77 since it doesn't seem she's part of the Dharma/Jughead plot. Even Hurley had his small part here in convincing Chang to evacuate the island.

when we thought sawyer was going back to 1977 civilization (which we know is no longer true from the coming attractions, sorry if you are in the UK and that is a spoiler), i was starting to think that he goes and grifts his own mom, as sawyer. but that's CRAZAY!

cutty, Thursday, 7 May 2009 14:50 (fifteen years ago) link

hahaha i never thought of that

unban cowboy (some dude), Thursday, 7 May 2009 14:51 (fifteen years ago) link

have to say, shouldn't the fact that the finale is next week be more exciting? I mean, it's not poised particularly well.

Local Garda, Thursday, 7 May 2009 14:52 (fifteen years ago) link

the preview certainly made it look like they could just be running around doing bad sci fi movie bomb cliches, but since it's a double they've gotta have something else going on. i'm thinking at the very least there will be some kind of crazy reveal that will open up a whole new level of speculation until next season, hopefully re: Jacob or Alpert or the hostiles in general.

unban cowboy (some dude), Thursday, 7 May 2009 14:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Are the tunnels they're in anywhere near the Temple or do they go all over the island?

Local Garda, Thursday, 7 May 2009 14:59 (fifteen years ago) link

has the show ever had cornier-looking visual effects than the submarine and the Ben-smokey scene in the last few episodes? i know it's an expensive show but i don't know if i should worry about even worse CGI to come or if maybe they're saving up the effects budget for something really badass.

unban cowboy (some dude), Thursday, 7 May 2009 15:34 (fifteen years ago) link

I hear they're going to reuse the atomic bomb explosion from the "Let's Dance" video next episode.

resistance is feudal (WmC), Thursday, 7 May 2009 15:36 (fifteen years ago) link

the submarine looked pretty shitty, like myst or something

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 7 May 2009 15:39 (fifteen years ago) link

which we know is no longer true from the coming attractions, sorry if you are in the UK and that is a spoiler

Really, how hard would it have been for you to rearrange that sentence and put the word spoiler at the beginning?

JimD, Thursday, 7 May 2009 15:42 (fifteen years ago) link

lol @ the sawyer nicknames. i forgot about the artist formerly known as henry gale, ha.

o come on u really thought sawyer/kate/juilete were going to just go hang out in 1977

ice cr?m, Thursday, 7 May 2009 15:57 (fifteen years ago) link

btw here it is

ice cr?m, Thursday, 7 May 2009 15:59 (fifteen years ago) link

oh, i thought the world spoiler goes at the end of the spoiler itself

cutty, Thursday, 7 May 2009 16:09 (fifteen years ago) link

also it was decided early on that whatever is in the coming attractions is NOT SPOILAGE

cutty, Thursday, 7 May 2009 16:10 (fifteen years ago) link

NO REGRETS

"o come on u really thought sawyer/kate/juilete were going to just go hang out in 1977"

I would pay good money to see Hurley's dream of an Ewok-free Star Wars trilogy realized.

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 7 May 2009 17:25 (fifteen years ago) link

So self-perpetuating Locke mythos again-- I thought it was weird that both Alpert & Christian told Locke that he had to die to get everyone back. Now we know that Alpert got that from Locke himself--who is infected by Christianity maybe?

President Keyes, Thursday, 7 May 2009 17:37 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah locke has def lost his innocence

ice cr?m, Thursday, 7 May 2009 17:39 (fifteen years ago) link

looking forward to coming egyptian alien ghost power coup.

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 7 May 2009 17:46 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm thinking Locke was told by "the island" that he had to die in order to come back as a superghost and save the island from Jacob. or something. sometimes I can't believe I'm really typing this shit

In preview is that Alpert swinging a sledgehammer at the "don't drill an inch further" magnetic wall?

mh, Thursday, 7 May 2009 17:48 (fifteen years ago) link

alpert's all "LOCKE YOU'VE CHANGED."

cutty, Thursday, 7 May 2009 17:50 (fifteen years ago) link

really hoping this season ends in a huge mushroom cloud

ice cr?m, Thursday, 7 May 2009 17:51 (fifteen years ago) link

I bet it ends on Alpert's "watch them all die" moment whatever that may be

dmr, Thursday, 7 May 2009 17:57 (fifteen years ago) link

imo that would be too similar to the island 'disappearing' at the end of last season (xpost)

richard alpert's tijuana brass (some dude), Thursday, 7 May 2009 17:58 (fifteen years ago) link

it would be a sweet parallel

ice cr?m, Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:01 (fifteen years ago) link

Would like to see in finale:

-bodies of all people who died on the island found in egyptian style scarcophaguseses (including Locke)
-statue coming to life and stomping on people (what lies at the foot of the statue? you!)

or something equally jaw dropping

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:07 (fifteen years ago) link

xpost probably will though, to parallel the hatch blowing up in season 2

similar thoughts/predictions: will somebody get kidnapped or hostages get exchanged? will the island get revealed to the outside world again, or will its connection to the world in '77 get severed?

Nhex, Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:09 (fifteen years ago) link

i'm guessing w/ all the rumors/speculation upthread and elsewhere that someone major will die (although imo that doesn't carry as much weight as it used to, what with all sorts of rising from the dead and revisiting dead people in the past) -- should we have a poll thread to predict who?

richard alpert's tijuana brass (some dude), Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:12 (fifteen years ago) link

im thinking the "major death" theyve been yapping about all through the season is faraday tho

IPOD TOOCH (jjjusten), Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:14 (fifteen years ago) link

My money's still on Sayid.

resistance is feudal (WmC), Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:14 (fifteen years ago) link

one site said at the beginning of the season that "the person who dies was on Oceanic 815," so i'm guessing it's someone more major than Faraday (who, c'mon, showed up in season 4).

richard alpert's tijuana brass (some dude), Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:17 (fifteen years ago) link

or maybe that was referring to Locke? i dunoo.

richard alpert's tijuana brass (some dude), Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:18 (fifteen years ago) link

Based on this, I would guess Faraday:

Didn't Jacob tell Locke to kill him? Or did he just tell him "help me" or something?

Alex in SF, Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:20 (fifteen years ago) link

This show has been on so long I can't recall plot points from season's past.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:21 (fifteen years ago) link

he said "help me"

richard alpert's tijuana brass (some dude), Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:22 (fifteen years ago) link

help, kill, it's good enough for me

Local Garda, Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:46 (fifteen years ago) link
