Eventually to devolve to Trump saying "Did I run for president? I can't remember."

there is so much going on that certain stories are starting to give me deja vu.

yeah it's nuts. there are leaks, then there are "sources confirm," and then there are stories that FURTHER confirm what the sources say, and then the story goes away for weeks at a time before it rears its head again with new allegations

McMaster basically jumped on a grenade that may or may not ever go off, but he has to stay on or else every other person in the military could wind up dead.

Based on his latest comment he not only jumped on it but started piling up dirt around himself:

McMaster says not "concerned" by idea of back channel btw transition team and Russians if report true. Won't comment directly on new report.

Meantime, I buy this take:

https://www.axios.com/jared-kushners-russia-connections-are-the-talk-of-the-wh-2424038299.html

A hot theory is that Trump can't clean house because those inside know too much to be let go, and outsiders (beyond old campaign hands) can't be trusted with what they'd learn.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 27 May 2017 14:18 (seven years ago) link

Also, due to 'an unforeseen change in his schedule,' allegedly.

The text of this article oversells it, but this look like something too.

Definitely an oversell, but his demeanor as he's standing up...that is not the demeanor of a healthy person.

i want to believe and all, but that is def overselling it. someone of his crew could've winked him over, only for him to be told by israeli guys: 'hold on, just one more photo-op and we're done here'.

Le Bateau Ivre, Saturday, 27 May 2017 20:29 (seven years ago) link

Trump has a letter signed by a genuine MD that told us he would be the healthiest President of all time. Maybe he should start passing that out to every visitor along with those electoral maps.

Now's a good time to pack those bug-out bags, Seoul. 3 CVs in WestPac. VOA News: Sources: 3rd US Naval Strike Force Deployed to Deter North Korea

The USS Nimitz, one of the world’s largest warships, will join two other supercarriers, the USS Carl Vinson and the USS Ronald Reagan, in the western Pacific
.

This is consistent with CV locations, and highly unusual (generally only one CVN is deployed to WestPac). If we hear about the USS Theodore Roosevelt joining them from San Diego, its practically a given Trump's up to something.

President Trump has told multiple people, including EPA head Scott Pruitt, that he intends to pull the U.S. out of the landmark Paris Agreement on climate change, according to a new Axios report based on information from three anonymous sources with direct knowledge of the conversations.

I like the first one: It is my opinion that many of the leaks coming out of the White House are fabricated lies made up by the #FakeNews media. Opinion? HE KNOWS. He matter of factly admits that nothing he says has a factual basis, not even something that he kinda should be the one with the most knowledge about.

the donald today is slightly richer than ross perot (4 vs. 3.7 billion according to very quick searches) and thus about sixteen times richer than mitt romney's supposed net worth ($250 million), which is a hundred times poppy bush's. old money ain't worth what it used to be. hillary's just below the h.w. level. bloomberg, america's eighth-richest person, is worth $35.4 billion dollars. mark zuckerberg (#7) will be eligible to run for president in 2020. look out world.

a grim thread to reread btw. e.g.:

trump beating j.e. bush maybe the most interesting thing long term. would be hilarious if he became the horse to beat and the whole primary process becomes an "anyone but trump" saga.

it'll be cool when people have to ask zuckerberg to divest from facebook and give up control and it won't matter anyway because it'll already be designed to manipulate the electorate on its own

j., Sunday, 28 May 2017 18:55 (seven years ago) link

i hope elizabeth warren doesn't run for president. she's much better off in the senate, where she can do the most good

Karl Malone, Sunday, 28 May 2017 19:00 (seven years ago) link

xp it won't matter anyway because it'll already be established by precedent that you don't really have to divest or establish an effective blind trust any more because Trump got away with it

There was a fair amount of discussion in 2015-16 about the desirability of a Warren campaign for president, with many shades of opinion expressed, but as I recall there was mostly agreement about the desirability of a theoretical Warren presidency.

A is for (Aimless), Sunday, 28 May 2017 19:17 (seven years ago) link

Warren would have been an infinitely better candidate than Clinton. Why the Democrats wanted to run the most divisivw political figure in America will forever be a mystery to me
