I like how this thread starts with a picture of Trump looking like his truck just ran out of gas and then three weeks later he's already in Opec land.

The butt of the nude Trump statue is pretty vile, I mean it may be peach in color but the appearance is that of a dangerous enemy's buttock

NEW: James Comey will consult with special counsel Robert Mueller before testifying at Senate Intel Committee, aide confirms to @AliABCNews.

— ABC News (@ABC) May 22, 2017

Which makes sense from here, and could affect whether he testifies at all.

What does that even mean, "lots of movement?" Isn't most everybody of note (the usual suspects) traveling? Who is doing the moving? Or is Costa implying Barron is throwing the most badass rich kid house party ever?

Been wondering if Comey is a bit colour or at least shade blind if he thought his suit looked anything like the blue of the drapes in the Oval office. or is the art of camouflage a mental thing.
Also wondered what the odd smile you see on his face just before he moves over to greet 45 was until his mindset was explained earlier this week.

i hope Kushner heads to the clink. also, i hope Sessions has to resign in disgrace. which is probably more of a pipe dream than Trump serving any time.

jason waterfalls (gbx), Monday, 22 May 2017 22:54 (seven years ago) link

well i'm looking forward to Trump's pre-resignation moment of respectability, cf Nixon in China. like maybe he'll open a golf course in Iraq or gently rebuke Tila Tequila for a Nazi meme.

Οὖτις, Monday, 22 May 2017 23:00 (seven years ago) link

I'm also curious whether or not Trump and Sessions are going to try to prevent Mueller from investigating Kushner using Code of Federal Regulations, which restricts newly hired government lawyers from investigating their prior law firm’s clients for one year after their hiring (now two years as per Trump's executive order, apparently). A Reuters report a few days ago said they were exploring it

spud called maris (darraghmac), Monday, 22 May 2017 23:20 (seven years ago) link

yeah, how is this not jail-worthy exactly?

"Trump made separate appeals to the director of national intelligence, Daniel Coats, and to Adm. Michael S. Rogers, the director of the National Security Agency, urging them to publicly deny the existence of any evidence of collusion during the 2016 election."

scott seward, Tuesday, 23 May 2017 03:22 (seven years ago) link

but I'll be surprised if *nobody* goes to jail for this

yes, because rich white collar criminals have such a rich history of getting actual jail time

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 23 May 2017 03:26 (seven years ago) link

Wouldn't want to be in Flynn's shoes right now. But I have an ominous feeling the "Russia thing" is not actually going to sink Trump. Is there going to be any evidence of obstruction of justice apart from one-on-one conversations that Trump can deny? As for collusion, why would the Russians be so dumb, they didn't need to collude to give Trump a helping hand. The investigation will pull up some stuff but nothing directly linked to Trump personally, and it won't be enough to force him out, is my feeling

He can't easily deny things he admitted to on national television.

Treeship, Tuesday, 23 May 2017 03:43 (seven years ago) link

dunno, seems to come pretty easily to him

j., Tuesday, 23 May 2017 03:44 (seven years ago) link

This is a political issue now not a legal one. He obstructed justice, whether or not he is guilty of "collusion." There is enough there for impeachment but the Republicans won't assent to it.. yet

Treeship, Tuesday, 23 May 2017 03:46 (seven years ago) link

He obstructed justice, but you've got to prove it. Will one-on-one conversations stand up legally when one side denies? Even on television, what's he admitted to? That when he was deciding to fire Comey, he was thinking that the Russia thing was made up. Pretty damning, but the link between the two remains implicit rather than explicit in what he says. He never said outright I fired Comey because of Russia. That leaves legal wiggle room I'd have thought
