Yeah, it's hard to judge the height of someone with the physical bearing of a sea cucumber.

human/hutt hybrid (Old Lunch), Friday, 19 May 2017 13:11 (seven years ago) link

Comey is 6' 8"?
That really shocks me for some reason

my theory is that this is why Trump ultimately fired him

frogbs, Friday, 19 May 2017 13:21 (seven years ago) link

same, been thinking that since his height first came up

﴿→ ☺ (Doctor Casino), Friday, 19 May 2017 13:27 (seven years ago) link

Huh. You guys are probably right. Trump's razor always suggests that the simplest and stupidest and most Neanderthalic (apologies to our own Neanderthal) solution is probably the correct one.

Should have been in the Coachmen innit

I actually have a theory that the thinner candidate always wins

not sure if this was a tie last election

Clinton plumped up as well - probably too many Dove bars. Trump I think absorbed small creatures directly into his flesh

Violet Jynx, Friday, 19 May 2017 14:25 (seven years ago) link

being short is my excuse for most of the things I haven't achieved in my life. after all, if you're short and reach any level of power people are just gonna say you have a Napolean complex. hardly seems worth it.

https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/05/18/world/middleeast/trump-saudi-arabia-foreign-trip.html

After four months of interactions between Mr. Trump and his counterparts, foreign officials and their Washington consultants say certain rules have emerged: Keep it short — no 30-minute monologue for a 30-second attention span. Do not assume he knows the history of the country or its major points of contention. Compliment him on his Electoral College victory. Contrast him favorably with President Barack Obama. Do not get hung up on whatever was said during the campaign. Stay in regular touch. Do not go in with a shopping list but bring some sort of deal he can call a victory.

Mr President, we needed some cartons of Um Bongo, and three packets of Hula Hoops, but apparently you gave the order to buy them yesterday? And they arrived just now!

or the Simpsons spoof of that episode.

What is going to happen if people who feel less need to be diplomatic have to deal with him?
Is it going to be constant meltdown. just had the tantrum scene from the President Show playing i8n the background. Is that a prediction?

Why Lieberman of all people?

― Treeship, Thursday, May 18, 2017 6:57 PM (yesterday) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

for the same reason he fired Comey, Trump sees it as a concession. Not surprising that he totally misreads his opposition.

i hate lieberman as much as anyone, but i have to say i don't really understand the democratic opposition. isn't he. better than whatever the alternative is?

k3vin k., Friday, 19 May 2017 14:50 (seven years ago) link

he's senior counsel at Kasowitz, Benson, Torres and Friedman, a law firm that represents Trump

This particular monster can read minds, you see. He knows every thought, he can feel every emotion. Oh yes, I did forget something, didn't I? I forgot to introduce you to the monster. This is the monster. His name is Tonald Drump."

Violet Jynx, Friday, 19 May 2017 14:54 (seven years ago) link

he also publicly supported flynn's initial appointment. conflicts of interest everywhere. xp

Mordy, Friday, 19 May 2017 14:54 (seven years ago) link

You don't understand why Democrats would be opposed to putting a politician who stabbed them in the back in charge of the FBI? Not someone who has been ideologically opposed to them from the beginning, but someone who was considered a leader in their party and was likely privy to a bunch of their internal information who then went out of his way to hinder them politically, including endorsing the opposing party's candidate in 2008?

xp: His employment is not actually a conflict of interest, as outlined by a friend of mine on Facebook who is a former DOJ lawyer:

Two things: 1. Joe Lieberman is a hot steaming load but his membership at Kasowitz does not pose a conflict of interest as far as his nomination for FBI Director just because the firm has from time to time represented Trump or the Trump Organization. By definition, if someone leaves a position at a law firm for another job, THERE IS NO CONFLICT OF INTEREST. So stop it. No conflict of interest, Lieberman is unsuitable as FBI Director because he's a hot load of garbage but that's it.

2. For the exact same reasons, the supposed "conflicts of interest" regarding Robert Mueller's former membership in WilmerHale are irrelevant now he has been appointed special counsel for the investigation into the Trump campaign's collusion with Russia and collateral activities. AGAIN. He no longer works there. Accordingly, NO CONFLICTS. Mueller, not a pile of garbage like Lieberman.

Please apply the correct analysis when hating on people. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

PJD PDJ DPJ (DJP), Friday, 19 May 2017 14:56 (seven years ago) link

how is it not a conflict of interest? maybe there's no legal conflict of interest but he's clearly coming from a world deeply embedded in the Trump business. he is coming with particular views informed by his previous private employment.

Mordy, Friday, 19 May 2017 14:58 (seven years ago) link

you can say that about everyone who ever takes a new job

maybe there's no legal conflict of interest

this is the only definition that matters

k3vin k., Friday, 19 May 2017 15:01 (seven years ago) link

xxxp and hillary had no legal conflict of interest getting paid to give speeches to banks and then running for public office. but ppl generally agree that it's at the very least nagl and probably represents a conflict of interest in reality.

Mordy, Friday, 19 May 2017 15:01 (seven years ago) link

i'm just saying if we defeat lieberman it's not like we're going to get someone better instead. but i respect the opposition out of principle

k3vin k., Friday, 19 May 2017 15:02 (seven years ago) link

it's a conflict of interest because Trump is a master hypnotist who used Joe Lieberman's old law firm to hypnotize Joe Lieberman into doing his bidding for the rest of his life

sexualing healing (crüt), Friday, 19 May 2017 15:02 (seven years ago) link

acc to this definition kellyanne conway could quit her job with the trump administration and get appointed as head of the FBI and there'd be no conflict of interest bc she quit her last job. this is obviously very very silly + tendentious reading of the term "conflict of interest."

Mordy, Friday, 19 May 2017 15:02 (seven years ago) link

Are you a lawyer?

PJD PDJ DPJ (DJP), Friday, 19 May 2017 15:04 (seven years ago) link

i'm not speaking about a legal standard but a colloquial one so i don't know why a legal background is necessary

Mordy, Friday, 19 May 2017 15:04 (seven years ago) link

well there's also the fact that, in a gov't appointment that actually does seem to require relevant experience, he is completely lacking in any

jason waterfalls (gbx), Friday, 19 May 2017 15:05 (seven years ago) link

you're looking for a different word than "tendentious", which if anything describes your position! (which i don't even disagree with.) are you aware of the term "regulatory capture"? this kind of bullshit happens in federal appointments all the time. i think joe is a slimeball and deserves even worse than the public humiliation of having his nomination defeated, but tbh when his name was floated i wasn't too mad.

k3vin k., Friday, 19 May 2017 15:08 (seven years ago) link

i'm not speaking about a legal standard but a colloquial one so i don't know why a legal background is necessary

Because a) "conflict of interest" is a legal term that has meaning, b) the colloquial standard is not a standard, and c) even if a colloquial standard existed, it is completely immaterial to whether someone is legally able to hold a particular position.

PJD PDJ DPJ (DJP), Friday, 19 May 2017 15:08 (seven years ago) link

conflict of interest is not just a legal term - i'd say even not primarily a legal term. when most ppl use it they aren't using it as a legal claim.

Mordy, Friday, 19 May 2017 15:09 (seven years ago) link

heads of the FDA and FTC are regularly business executives who have clashed with the agency in the past. fuckin betsy devos is the education secretary. lieberman does not have a "conflict of interest" in any meaningful sense of the word, i'm sorry. that horse left the barn decades ago

k3vin k., Friday, 19 May 2017 15:10 (seven years ago) link

are you aware of the term "regulatory capture"? this kind of bullshit happens in federal appointments all the time.

i don't disagree w/ this at all i'm just floating why some dems might not be thrilled to hire a guy who works for a trump affiliated law firm and publicly supported flynn's appointment to the administration

Mordy, Friday, 19 May 2017 15:10 (seven years ago) link

btw lieberman testified on behalf of devos too
