But there's like **60 million people** in this country who voted for this, and it was certainly one of the most hot-button issues in the entire campaign not some crazy surprise. Its BAFFLING to me that there are at least 60 million Americans that think heath care should not be a human right, and even more baffling in this economy that there's 60 million Americans so comfortable and healthy that they think we need less health care for everyone

surely this include the dems who passed the ACA to begin with as a massive hand job to the insurance industry. last year i was unable to afford health care with the subsidies provided, so i had to go without care and was fined a hefty $700 added onto my year-end taxes. what a great plan.

Still have yet to see/hear someone (eg media member, politician) explain that premiums went up mainly cause insurance co's could no longer "risk manage" by denying coverage to "risky" customers, ie those who most need health care.

I mean you could argue that cosponsoring a bill going nowhere isn't "fighting for" single payer but my own rep is explicitly and vocally in favor of hashtag-medicare-for-all

don't think anyone could credibly challenge her for caucus leadership either tbh. seniority and (more importantly) effectiveness count for an awful lot. She holds the caucus together and gets the votes - more than you can say for the GOP's recent leadership.

discounting some legitimately 'econ anxious' people who may just not pay a whole lot of attention, i tend to think a frighteningly large % of that 60m are craving some indeterminate punitive action for our govt, institutions, (even corps, to some extent) and fellow citizens for deigning to treat lgbqt and POCs almost like full-fledged citizens in this century. the irrationality and concomitant 'acting out' provides some bizarre catharsis which must totally be worth it for them, at least in the short term.

and yeah, when it all goes sideways for them there's a massive, somewhat 'alt-'media push at the ready with an unwavering script about how it's always The Others' fault in just 3 easy steps. p cool.

^yes and the dems are, to me, pretty stupid not to just keep saying it all day, everyday. if for no other reason than to refocus/ re-center the mainstream narrative a little bit.

so fucked up how ACA causing people to not "keep their plan and their doctor" was a goddamn travesty, with the crocodile tears deluging from Rs, but slashing Medicaid and re-instituting health-history based underwriting is a tremendous victory for the American people. Fuck these assholes forever.

Because I've had a glass of wine, I watched the FOX panel headed by Chris Wallace a few minutes ago and found the mood...subdued? K-Ham thinks nothing will happen: a rickety system will emerge from conference, the president will sign it, and in about ten years we go to single payer because the American public has been "radically" changed to accept health care as a right. Charles Lane said the GOP will get an earful next week during the break and are in danger of losing the House.

single payer=SOCIALIZED MEDICINE. I think US still has too much fear of socialism for that to be a reality any time soon.

The word "socialist" doesn't stir Cold War reflexes among most Millennials. Perhaps once half of that cohort passes 40 (around 2025), we can have a healthcare safety net. Or it may take till half the Boomers are dead (around 2035).
