i thought that about adam driver in star wars too but he was good in that.

twin peaks has always featured the bizarre juxtapositions of very good and very bad actors

Adam Driver was great. but the character in Girls has the same kind of dark jerk-ness to him. and Cera has been in good stuff. i loved "Scott Pilgrim".

still, it feels weird, like When World Collide...

^this is true. i realized this while watching Mulholland Drive and realizing that was Billy Ray Cyrus up there on screen somehow being brilliant

Many people including me have been assuming without evidence that Michael Cera must be playing Andy and Lucy's son.

I'm most interested in the bit part being played by current UFC middleweight champion Michael "The Count" Bisping.

Cera was quite good in his Entertainment bit part.

I'm curious about the comedy actors and musicians and whatever other perceived stunt casting, also about the return of beloved character Louis "Birdsong" Budway

But most of all I'm just all in for lynch directing dern and watts again

Driver actually would have been a good TP addition, fuck, he'd be a halfway decent Bob

yeah adding watts and dern to this is great. Dern has been so good in Big Little Lies too.

I agree, the mix of younger actors and old castmembers should allow for a fair amount of variety, it doesn't need to be/shouldn't be all oldsters

once they get Audrey back from One Eyed Jacks you can skip to the finale. otherwise you may as well watch the whole thing.

First several are awesome, middle few are smh but have their moments, last few are awesome

You could definitely skip 11-16, I guess 11-20 even, but I feel like it's good to get some of the owl cave black lodge buildup.

At the very least watch the first 7 eps of S2 and the finale, and FWWM after that.

I finished rewatching the whole series a month ago and still enjoyed all of S2. James' Wild Ride is tedious but ends in such glorious melodrama, Nadine As High-Schooler is silly but a) gets Ed and Norma together and b) has some great funny moments with Mike, little Nicky goes nowhere but Dick Tremayne and Andy as a comedy duo is so worth it. And the fact that it meanders for a while, and just enjoys the characters, actually makes the ramping-up of plot more effective when it comes. (I loved the Diane Keaton episode, with all its visual staginess, in 1991, and 100% loved it again in 2017.)

Yeah I mean I don't plan to skip any when next I watch S2 but I don't judge those who do otherwise. The only bits I truly dread watching again are James' wild ride which feels like it was made on a lameness dare or something

Last 3 episodes at least are def worth watching, the final few minutes of the 3rd-to-last one makes you feel like things are back to where they should be.

Windom Earle sucks so much

Yeah he's awful, it's a bummer when you get to Miss Twin Peaks and he stops being craaaaazy and starts actually being effectively unnerving. Too bad about 98% of his screentime!

Yeah I agree that the series regains a sense of narrative purpose towards the end but I hate the windom earle/miss twin peaks/ted raimi/billy zane stuff from that last stretch way more than I hate anything from the midseason slump.

Id never skip any of it tho - the first time I watched it I knew it was supposed to get bad at some point but I was basically delighted all the way through. Objectively I get that there were problems - maclachlan's decision to torpedo what would have been the central storyline was probably fatal, and the decision not to deal with the Palmer story after it's "solved" is downright offensive (the goofs start happening at the wake of the triple murderer who's just been revealed to have been raping his daughter for years). I think if lynch & frost were around more at that point they'd have balanced the tone a bit - certainly the finale and film feel like a massive corrective, almost a rebuke to those episodes - but I like that there are five or so episodes of just hanging out in this world, enjoying the music and the people in a very low-stakes way. I get what's cringey about the robyn lively story eg but how can you not love the mayor?

I also really like the notorious keaton ep. She's trying so hard to be kooky that she basically fills it with ZAZ sight gags, which is just what the wild ride subplot needed.
