thanks for dropping in silby! (i think that was you?) sorry i didn't say hello but since i plan on doing this for another 399 1-hour sessions i'm trying to do it the same way every time, and i didn't want to set the precedent of chatting back with anyone. it is a very lonely twitch experience

but also a lot of fun to do! the bic wite-out is just crappy enough to use that every edit requires a lot of attention (at least for me - i'm terrible at manual things) and the possibility of a major fuckup is always around the corner!

What music were you playing for this daunting yet exciting task?

it's a new 60-minute version of an old chance-based song i recorded in 2013, not long after i learned about cage and morton feltman and wanted to be a copycat. each page will take me a little under an hour to complete, and i wanted to use original music since i think twitch goes through everyone's old videos and mutes the audio whenever it's copyrighted.

It's great, and fits the introspective character of your endeavor perfectly imho. Funny that you made it in 2013, because by some coincidental cross ilx reading, I saw you really dig the new Alice Coltrane comp - same here - and thought that was what got you in the mood to make this music. The meditative nature of it really reminded me of that.

oh, thank you, that's great! i love alice coltrane, and i'm so glad in some ways that i didn't learn about her ashram recordings until relatively recently, because they're like finding a mountain on top of a mountain.

i hope i can make it all the way through this book. it's going to take a while. although, even if i die of old age halfway through the process, at least the book would survive and some asshole teenager in the early 22nd century might stumble upon it in the ruins, see the first 1/3 of the pages meticulously dotted with Wite-Out, and be weirded out for a moment before beaming herself back up into whatever bizarre universe exists at the time. that would make it all worth it.

Thanks for the original version, I love it. And you've got the right attitude towards this imho. If you can ditch the 'have to finish it' urge you're on the right path. Terrible cliche but it's about the journey not the destination. It's about sitting down and finding peace of mind to do this. I wonder where your thoughts wander when doing this. And admire it for the zen-like exercise that it is. It should not be about any more than that (though admittedly, the asshole teenager finding would be a bonus).

this is a quick mockup for a projection. it's hard to explain but it'll be sort of like the staircase waterfall projection from a few months back, where there's an ideal viewing angle where everything appears in perspective. the twist with this one is that there will be an outer surface of wood (which the black "rug" and beams are painted onto) to mess with the perspective a bit more. then i'm going to rip off the lightning field and place it in a position where the sunset will change the way it looks throughout the day and by night leave it as just these glowing beams in the room, lighting up the wooden outer surface of it a bit as well. or at least i think that's how it will go at this point. i'm pretty excited try it out. i've been working on a bunch of long-term things recently, but this should be a pretty quick thing to make assuming i can roll my sad ass out the door and pick up the materials

ok, i guess i do sorta care, lamely. to overshare, i made the switch to doing this shit full time a few months ago and i can't get a commission, a residency, a reply to any email, nothing, just failure after failure as my bank account runs out and i start to wonder if i've actually really truly lost it, if i need help, is this normal behavior, etc. relatives who know about it don't even bring it up because they know it's going to be a fucking awful conversation. these boing boing kind of events are forgettable in isolation but they keep piling up everywhere, these near misses, constantly. like a few hours ago i posted the stupid fidgetspinner guy on my facebook page and for once, some massive facebook group i've never heard of ("space junkies - PAGE") with over 200,000 followers picked up on it and shared it on their own page and lots of those people are resharing it...but they scrubbed my name and link to my facebook page off of it, so clicking the link only takes you to the direct giphy .gif file, with no attribution. it happens frequently enough that you can't even blame the people doing it, it's just how the internet is, everything gets anonymized and you get used to noticing that someone reposted your image on a different platform 3 years later with the description "thanks internet". i'm not even trying to make a fair living off of this, i am trying desperately to scrape by a sub-sub-poverty level of compensation for all this and i'm not even coming close. fuuuuuuuuck.
