xpost Roz - but it's more cruelly ironic for them to actually detonate the bomb AND have it screw themselves over, since then they're more directly causing their fate! (unless they want to carry the bomb over into season 6, which i doubt they will do)
The Radzinski thing is pretty funny since we already know he's going to kill himself after pushing the Hatch button for years, so the more evil he is, it's just gravy
― Nhex, Thursday, 30 April 2009 12:14 (fifteen years ago) link
is Radzinski supposedly the one who made the glow-in-the-dark hatch map on the bomb blast doors?
― dmr, Thursday, 30 April 2009 12:54 (fifteen years ago) link
but i still feel like they are wasting tons of time telling us things we already know
I hate when they write in "heavy" "important" scenes of characters "revealing" things the audience already knows (but the other character doesn't)
ie Widmore telling Daniel he sank the fake plane
fast-forward that shit, Lost
― dmr, Thursday, 30 April 2009 12:57 (fifteen years ago) link
ya. i thought this exchange was pretty funny tho:
Penny: Your son is Benjamin Linus?!Eloise: Good lord, no! (dramatic pause) My son is... Daniel Faraday. Penny's face: right okay.

yup
― peter in montreal, Thursday, 30 April 2009 13:08 (fifteen years ago) link
nhex, hmm yeah i guess it could go both ways. from next week's promo it seems like jack and kate have a discussion on whether they should detonate the bomb or not.
i hope we see radzinsky blow his brains out. what an asshole.
― Roz, Thursday, 30 April 2009 13:09 (fifteen years ago) link
impressed that Des was able to beat the crap out of Ben before going to hospital
i'd like to see more resentment from Juliet and James towards the o6 people for wrecking their shit altho i guess they can all just blame it on Sayid wherever he is
― Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Thursday, 30 April 2009 13:40 (fifteen years ago) link
what happened? i am confused.they said that not pushing the button caused 815 to crash - but wouldn't that have blown up the hatch before they ever found it/des? or when they crashed, did they also go back in time to when the hatch was still there?
― tehresa, Thursday, 30 April 2009 13:48 (fifteen years ago) link
what I don't get is how the "possibility" of none of seasons 1-4 ever happening is a possibility. like how does that even work, they suddenly wake up and are getting off the flight in la
― Local Garda, Thursday, 30 April 2009 13:52 (fifteen years ago) link
i would be cool with that as long as when they got LA everyone was wearing Others rags living in tents and on TV there was a statue of President Smokemonster
― Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Thursday, 30 April 2009 13:53 (fifteen years ago) link
forget the 'on TV' bit
― Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Thursday, 30 April 2009 13:54 (fifteen years ago) link
xxp - yeah i don't think it can but if it does, it'll be interesting to see how the writers will try to convince us that it is possible. the only way it will happen is by paradox or introducing an alternate universe theory.
tehresa, 815 crashed the day Des *almost* didn't get to push the button because he was out chasing Kelvin, that's what they meant by failing to push the button.
― Roz, Thursday, 30 April 2009 13:59 (fifteen years ago) link
they ruled out alternate/parallel universes thankfully
― Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Thursday, 30 April 2009 14:00 (fifteen years ago) link
they also said that we weren't going to see dharma or paradoxes. :/
― Roz, Thursday, 30 April 2009 14:07 (fifteen years ago) link
i love the reversal of the grandfather paradox in this ep btw - instead of going back in time to kill your grandfather, get killed by your mom!
― Roz, Thursday, 30 April 2009 14:12 (fifteen years ago) link
jeez dudes... put yourselves in radzinski's shoes... would you act any different??

so why does Daniel have an american accent?
― joygoat, Thursday, 30 April 2009 15:05 (fifteen years ago) link
His accent... is not exactly his primary objective
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 30 April 2009 15:08 (fifteen years ago) link
lol. and why is his last name faraday?
― Roz, Thursday, 30 April 2009 15:11 (fifteen years ago) link
His name is Daniel Faraday because his mom named him after himself, duh.
I liked this episode but am scared that it's going to mean more of a focus on the Jack/Kate group again, which pisses me off. That and semi-resolving the Desmond situation means no Desmond for now, Faraday is dead, and the "new" group running for the jungle will probably get focus.
― mh, Thursday, 30 April 2009 15:22 (fifteen years ago) link
i'm confused as to why his mom was still on the island in '77. how old is farrydaye? how old was ellie in 1954? wouldn't she have recognized him from the bomb burying business?
― cutty, Thursday, 30 April 2009 15:23 (fifteen years ago) link
Yeah, that's a good point. I'm assuming Daniel was born ca. 1970, since he's a professor at Oxford in 1996, and Ellie, who looked to be about 18 in 1954, could conceivably have been in her mid-30s when she gave birth to him.

My thinking is that the bomb is still there in 2004, and turning the failsafe key is what finally detonates it.
I don't get why Daniel's entire mission, as guided by his parents for his entire life, was to go back to 1977 and get killed. Assuming he's actually dead, what higher purpose does that serve? I suppose we'll find out next week.
I really liked this weeks - it feels like the whole thing is finally actually moving forward. They only have four hours to stop the explosion! Sawyer is absolutely fucked! Etc etc.
― Enormous Epic (Matt DC), Thursday, 30 April 2009 17:51 (fifteen years ago) link
This episode had so many examples of conversations that started in one location, inexplicably stopped, and then picked up again in another location.
"Earlier when we were at the Orchid, you said 'x'. What did you mean by that?"
or
"Back when we were in LA, you said 'x'. Why did you say that?"
This drives me insane.

Assuming he's actually dead - pretty massive assumption, at least when you consider "dead" dead people are on this show most of the time.

*consider how "dead" dead people..
― tevin "ratt" campbell (Pillbox), Thursday, 30 April 2009 18:29 (fifteen years ago) link
Assuming he's actually dead, what higher purpose does that serve?
Widmore so loved the island that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
― Nicodle Otago (Nicole), Thursday, 30 April 2009 18:31 (fifteen years ago) link
no way is Dan dead. altho this seems so obvious that ending the episode on this "bombshell" is pretty tedious - kid ben being shot had much more impact, for me at least.
i thought they were hinting at Kate getting killed off when Dan said "any one of us could die" and then Jack looked at Kate worriedly, but that also seems dumb

i don't want jack to die
― cutty, Thursday, 30 April 2009 19:07 (fifteen years ago) link
Jack won't die because there is too much stuff with Christian that is unresolved, whereas Kate is only really back to find out about Claire, and it's not like Jack (aka Claire's brother!) couldn't do that himself. Otherwise, Kate really has nothing left to do other than be a monkey wrench in the Sawyer-Juliet relationship.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 30 April 2009 19:10 (fifteen years ago) link
The show (and the creators in interviews) has been a lot more blatant about pegging Kate as a pretty selfish and insufferable woman - bringing Claire off the island (assuming she's alive/possessed and not just dead) would actually finally give her a real redemption arc. Not to mention, if they give Claire a real helicopter rescue it would actually justify Charlie's death way back in season 3.
Weirdly enough Jack doesn't really care about Claire at all despite the familial connection (then again it's not like he's had a great relationship with his own family), but he seemed to completely switch over to the Locke/herald of the island's destiny role and has REALLY become "the guy who doesn't ask obvious questions, let's just do what the island wants". Looks like he's going to doubt it or turn against it next week by trying to undo everything.
