I had a dream the other month that stockholm cindy and slocki were discussing snack foods. Which is obviously very weird and out of character for them.

Last night I had a nightmare!

I was driving in a big blue minivan with tinted windows through an endless parking lot littered with burning cars. And I was in a good mood, listening to Mott the Hoople on a ghettoblasta sound system.

Getting hungry I stopped at a taco bell in a place called 'INTASTATE WASTELAND PIAZZA" and went inside. I ordered a taco, informed the server that he'd, haha, better make it good because I'd never had a taco before. I wondered why I'd said that, and it was clear that the server didn't believe me.

Said server was about 6'2", with really mangy short brown hair, and looked like a cross between Mike Skinner and Bill Haverchuck from Freaks and Geeks. He handed me a really terrible taco, which I (for his benefit) pretended to enjoy before walking to the car.

I'd parked near a brick corner, so there was a mini-alley between the edge of the minivan and the wall. I walked into it and opened the side door to the van but before I could climb inside I was thrown bodily against the wall. The mangy Mike Skinner/Bill Haverchuck taco server stood at the alley's exit, holding a chunk of cinderblock he'd used to clock me in the gut. He bent over me and tried to kiss me, and I could see that he had a bifurcated snake tongue. I ripped off his chin which fell away (I suspect) in a manner modeled exactly on the way Brindle-Fly's does at the end of Cronenberg's movie. I started running and he loping after me.

Then I shut a gigantic magazine and realized that the whole thing was a story in a new issue of the New Yorker. It had been written by Walter Cronkite and the front cover illustrated by David Hockney.

I have recently had dreams featuring a) Ned, b) Ken C, and c) Keith Moon who gave me drumming advice during breaks in our making out on the dining room floor. Sort of gross, sort of awesome.

another filesharing dream - i was talking to dave stelfox (i think he had a small child with him!) while downloading dancehall tunes. my god, if this isn't an indication of how barren my life is right now, i don't know what is (no offense dave obv).

someone quite accidentally gave me mark sinker's AIM name - copying and pasting a conversation they'd had with him, i think. later on i used this AIM name to telephone him. dream logic allowed me to this, but when i told him "mark? this is thomas.. someone gave me your AIM name" dream logic didn't extend to him understanding how that let me call him. also he sounded (quite rightly) confused because i) i had woken him up and ii) he has no idea who i am.

after this conversation it somehow skipped to a bit with us working in a very fake old timey pub together. he was in charge. then i dreamed about a boy band performing the orange juice's version of al green's 'l.o.v.e.'; they were quite good. (i think this might be something to do with "rockism".)

incidentally i know for a fact that lurker and occasional poster adrian langston has regular homo-erotic dreams about jess harvell.

I forgot to post this, but right around when roxymuzak first started posting here I had this dream my car was broke down on the side of the road in rural Tennessee near where my family live and a bus pulls up. The guy driving the bus is like "come ride the bus of wayward lost souls!", but somehow not in a goth/creepy way, more like a Ween/ridiculous way, and anyway, as I'm getting on the bus this girl is like "OMG you're nickalicious aren't you!?!" and it was roxymuzak.

I had a dream jon williams scribbled all over my ibook and I got mad and said you don't just do that to an ibook and he said he cd understand bt couldn't agree citing something abt how ppl have a responsibility to use imdb safely but go ahead and search rashly anyway. wtf?

I wrote the final 40% of Toby's PhD, according to my dream last night. He was having trouble with the more wordy, less math-y bits.

(I also crawled through Luton in torrential rain after going to a party with 7 loos and having to flee from an irate AFC Wimbledon fan who I caught going through everyone's stuff)

yeh you gotta watch those AFC fans...but are you having some sort of 'competetive crisis' re the Toby thing do you think? i don't seem to get that in dreams much, which is odd cos i am the type of person who can get a bit envious of other people's achievements, or like 'oh i could do that'

Hmm, I wonder. I do admire (more than envy) people with academic drive and ability, and sometimes I feel a bit dumb in comparison (Sarah, who's also doing a PhD, gets to see this quite a lot). Historically I've always consoled myself with the fact that I am fundamentally clever, but as has been discussed before, ILX is a difficult place when it comes to asserting your intellectual strengths as there are so many geniuses about.

I actually think it's envy of Toby's hairline.

I dreamed I was buying some pistachios and tiny rainbow coloured ice cream cones in a corner shop, and I put the pistachios in the scale at the till and went to fetch the ice creams, then, despite having been the only person in the shop seconds ago when i got back there was a huge queue, so I joined the back, thinking I'd catch up with the pistachios when I got to the front and no harm done, but everyone in the queue started having a go that I'd jumped the queue by putting the pistachios in the scale when I was still at the back of the queue, even though when I'd put them there there had been no queue. I tried to explain, but it all went nasty and I got upset and shouted 'you people' and ran off. I woke up and thought it was all real. I am blaming the crap day I'm now having on this dream.
