xposts: definitely disagree on that assessment, been loving this season, though i admit it has been slowing down a bit since they went back to regular flashbacks.

Roz: yes, i can't see them dragging out the time-travel drama into season 6. at least i hope not, though i have no idea what they're going to do for that season (though my guess is they're going to start doing weird stuff, kidnapping, working for the island, becoming full-fledged "Others" to complete the cycle that's been happening throughout the series). Wondering if the season will end with a return of Nü-Dharma/Octagon/statue people/etc. in 2008.

blueski: Could be - we don't where the bomb was buried by Richard. But one would think Richard would be watching that area more closely if it was there...

Nhex, Friday, 17 April 2009 14:19 (fifteen years ago) link

Since it was stressed so obviously that Dr Marvin Candle is dead in the present, that must mean he isn't.

James Mitchell, Friday, 17 April 2009 14:29 (fifteen years ago) link

But the bomb was sitting on open land and the Swan is in the jungle somewhere. I'm not saying Widmore etc didn't elect to carry an unstable nuclear device into the jungle for no apparent reason, but I can't see why they would.

Just been reading over the Lostpedia entries for the Dharma stations and there's a load of really dull shit they're probably going to try and fill in this season, like what exactly the Pearl is there for.

Which Dharma station is the one Sawyer works in?

Enormous Epic (Matt DC), Friday, 17 April 2009 14:35 (fifteen years ago) link

The Horse.

Local Garda, Friday, 17 April 2009 14:37 (fifteen years ago) link

why do people think this is a weak season? i think it's amazing, it's been pretty much nonstop moving the plot forward with the exception of a couple of lame episodes. even then, the only bad episode i can remember has been the kate bullshit from a few weeks ago.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 17 April 2009 14:40 (fifteen years ago) link

i see a lot of dudes complaining about these episodes "filling in stuff we already know" but i wonder if these people are like on all the blogs and websites and podcasts or whatever. as someone who just watches the show and doesn't follow any of the peripheral stuff, i appreciate them filling in backstory and reiterating details. it can be heavy-handed at times but usually i need the reminders. so maybe it's more aimed at the regular, nonobsessive viewer?

what are you saying?!

Local Garda, Friday, 17 April 2009 14:43 (fifteen years ago) link

i don't read anything besides this thread, and i think it's too much repetition.

n/a otm

Oh yeah, probably as good a time as any to refer to this:

http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/DHARMA_booth_video

Like most of these viral things, it's semi-spoilerish, but also vague. Not as cool as the one with the rabbits, though.

Nhex, Friday, 17 April 2009 14:45 (fifteen years ago) link

season started really well, been a few dips along the way (i still think most of 'Jughead' sucked) but it's more just little things that annoy like Jack and Kate crapness, whole Aaron thing, random dumb script-writing...of course most of these problems have always been there. i don't think it's panning out too badly.

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Friday, 17 April 2009 14:45 (fifteen years ago) link

(this thread is still pretty hardcore compared to people who potentially watch the show and have only that, and no internet, to guide them - for instance I didn't even realize Bram was the same dude from the previous episode)

Nhex, Friday, 17 April 2009 14:46 (fifteen years ago) link

Wait where did we see Bram before?

i see a lot of dudes complaining about these episodes "filling in stuff we already know"

They're still at the 'what happened?' stage right now and they're working towards the 'why?' stage from now on - especially what the deal is with the Swan. In fairness, we didn't know before that Ben was going to be shot as a child and resurrected as an Other, we didn't know that Widmore had grown up on the Island, those are two pretty huge plot points.

Seeing them punching the numbers on the hatch door was a nice touch though. I hope there's a numbers reveal somewhere in this series.

Enormous Epic (Matt DC), Friday, 17 April 2009 14:48 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't have any problems at all with this season. Even when there's a weak episode, I try to have a little perspective and remember that this is really just one big 120-hour movie. I'm looking forward to viewing the whole thing over again when the inevitable box set comes out in mid 2010.

WmC, Friday, 17 April 2009 14:51 (fifteen years ago) link

Bram is on the Ajira flight, he's on the beach when Locke and Ben are chattin with the shadow of the statue crew.

I suspected this but I only had it confirmed by Lostpedia.

x-post we didn't know what Widmore had a long mane of curly hair

what sucks about this season is basically

1) theyre taking like 6 episodes to deal with shit that deserves like 1 episode total

2) jack and kate are featured prominently

rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Friday, 17 April 2009 14:53 (fifteen years ago) link

jack was hardly in last night's. his humble blackboard scrubbing was almost touching tho. too bad he's gonna end up being saviour of them all again.

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Friday, 17 April 2009 14:54 (fifteen years ago) link

? it seems there has been way less jack in general and jake/kate relationship b.s. in particular this season ... there definitely hasn't been anymore than there was in past seasons

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 17 April 2009 14:55 (fifteen years ago) link

I like Jack, esp if they keep making him a jerk. I thought he was going to be more like a jerk with Roger and they'd have a big "I'm a jerk" bonding session.

Local Garda, Friday, 17 April 2009 14:56 (fifteen years ago) link

i liked his jerkness in refusing to save kid ben, if only because surgeon jack = zzz

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Friday, 17 April 2009 14:57 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah exactly, I like his whole "it doesn't fucking matter, stop doing stuff" thing he's going on. I'm hoping they push him further this way.

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Friday, 17 April 2009 14:58 (fifteen years ago) link

Apart from the first couple, Jack tends to figure heavily in the plot at the start and end of each season and disappear for ages in the middle of it. But he's not been in this one THAT much. He's getting more interesting now he's become this faux-hippy "I was sent here for a purpose" figure but mostly because I want to know what the deal is with his dad and Claire and the cabin.

Enormous Epic (Matt DC), Friday, 17 April 2009 14:59 (fifteen years ago) link

I mean really Sawyer's had more screen time than any of the other characters by a mile but that's cool with me because he's one of the best and he didn't even get a flashback in last season.

kate's had two centric episodes this year which is one too many imo

YES

Event Horizon (Nicole), Friday, 17 April 2009 15:16 (fifteen years ago) link

They're holding the Juliet episode over til pretty late in the season so perhaps we'll get a big Others reveal or something. Or she'll get killed.

Enormous Epic (Matt DC), Friday, 17 April 2009 15:17 (fifteen years ago) link

this season has been doooooope best yet

s1ocki, Friday, 17 April 2009 15:18 (fifteen years ago) link

I have a bad feeling she's going to get killed, just to set up the boring Jack/Kate/Sawyer love triangle again.

Event Horizon (Nicole), Friday, 17 April 2009 15:19 (fifteen years ago) link

how good would it be if they knocked off kate

Enormous Epic (Matt DC), Friday, 17 April 2009 15:21 (fifteen years ago) link

mmm I like that tooth filling/"my teeth hurt" theory, because it was pretty clear that what was being dug was the Swan and not the Orchid - we saw them stamp the numbers on it!

Aside from the inevitable DVD/Blu-Ray sets, they could actually do this by also selling a DVR pre-loaded with the entire series, so you could watch chronologically or as originally presented without having to swap discs out.

WmC, Friday, 17 April 2009 15:29 (fifteen years ago) link

i probably wouldn't bother including most of the first two seasons flashbacks tho

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Friday, 17 April 2009 15:31 (fifteen years ago) link

ESP. KATE'S

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Friday, 17 April 2009 15:31 (fifteen years ago) link

Watching the whole thing in chronological order would be lame and would make absolutely no sense from a character development point of view.

Enormous Epic (Matt DC), Friday, 17 April 2009 15:36 (fifteen years ago) link

hmm interesting point matt

rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Friday, 17 April 2009 15:36 (fifteen years ago) link

ya but it would be weird

s1ocki, Friday, 17 April 2009 15:37 (fifteen years ago) link

we already know how the characters develop. i'd rather see it in (ok, heavily edited) chrono order than just rewatch the whole thing from the beginning. but i have lol-ADD.

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Friday, 17 April 2009 15:38 (fifteen years ago) link

many, many xposts

don't really blame the writers for a patchy season, i think the fill-in-the-blanks stuff is sort of necessary given the structure. In the timeline, we start off seeing point A and then point C, and then point B - it's good that we do get to see point B, just to remind people what happened before and after and confirm everyone's theories. and even stuff like seeing danielle and the frenchies was enjoyable, pointless as it was.

BUT what would've worked better is if point B had hinted more towards point D, something beyond the characters' present timelines, whether that's in 1977 or 2007. so far, the only exciting stuff that's been revealed about anything after where they are now is the Incident + an upcoming war + "shadow of the statue" folk - all of which is great, but not enough after 4-5 episodes of just backstory.

Roz, Friday, 17 April 2009 15:40 (fifteen years ago) link

as for watching it in chronological order... lol you'd start off with sawyer and crew looking up at the back of the four-toed statue/christian and locke at the donkey wheel.

Roz, Friday, 17 April 2009 15:43 (fifteen years ago) link

perfect :)

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Friday, 17 April 2009 15:44 (fifteen years ago) link

Thing is, we're already watching it in chronological order from the point of view of a core group of characters. What would be really fucked up (but cool) would be putting all the flashbacks into chronological order, which would probably make it start with some of the Richard Alpert stuff coming up in two episodes.

WmC, Friday, 17 April 2009 15:52 (fifteen years ago) link

looking forward to all those scenes with Driveshaft mashed in between Locke and his dad's kidney-stealing drama.
