Heh, I can't free myself of seeing him as the bum from Mulholland Drive! The punching sadly, indeed, seems appropriate. Like he's constantly asking for a severe beating.

I made the mistake of looking at the IMDB page for "The Variable" and learned a little bit about who will appear in the episode, which is always a bit spoilery.

my theory about tooth in head guy is that it's related to whatever magnet/force is under the orchid(?)... whatever the filling was made of was attracted by the force and in trying to get to it, ended up in dude's skull.

I thought the magnetic force was under The Swan? The Orchid is the one with the time force and the big wheel underneath it. That's not to say they're not connected.

So in 1977 the electromagnetism wasn't as severe as it was in 2004 when it caused all metal objects to fly across the room and potentially the whole world to implode upon itself, or whatever. But it still was pretty bad if it could cause a dude's filling to fly out of his tooth, through his brain and out the front of his skull. I suppose this is the Incident we're waiting for.

I liked it when Chang was talking about "stupid polar bear experiments". Pretty much all the big Dharma dudes are dicks, aren't they?

good episode tho yeah, short on plot. at least learning about miles is sort of interesting, I like this weird renegade true island believers group. BRAM. I don't think they're necessarily working for Ben either, isn't the 3.2m thing just Miles asking whoever wants to stop him working for Widmore to double the 1.6m. I mean if that group was working for Ben surely they'd know who he was when they get to the island? To me it seems more like "orphans of the island victim support group" or something.

Also enjoyed Dr Chang's sensible beige Dharma windbreaker.

kinda with you... i feel like they are not making efficient use of time. even though this ep was better than the past few, there were so many long stretches of nothing.

still i love faraday and miles and would rather the down time with them than stupid scenes like kate/roger, roger/jack, kate/juliet.

isn't The Swan also the site that Jughead is buried under (unbeknownst to Dharma i guess)?

xposts: definitely disagree on that assessment, been loving this season, though i admit it has been slowing down a bit since they went back to regular flashbacks.

Roz: yes, i can't see them dragging out the time-travel drama into season 6. at least i hope not, though i have no idea what they're going to do for that season (though my guess is they're going to start doing weird stuff, kidnapping, working for the island, becoming full-fledged "Others" to complete the cycle that's been happening throughout the series). Wondering if the season will end with a return of Nü-Dharma/Octagon/statue people/etc. in 2008.

Since it was stressed so obviously that Dr Marvin Candle is dead in the present, that must mean he isn't.

But the bomb was sitting on open land and the Swan is in the jungle somewhere. I'm not saying Widmore etc didn't elect to carry an unstable nuclear device into the jungle for no apparent reason, but I can't see why they would.

Just been reading over the Lostpedia entries for the Dharma stations and there's a load of really dull shit they're probably going to try and fill in this season, like what exactly the Pearl is there for.

why do people think this is a weak season? i think it's amazing, it's been pretty much nonstop moving the plot forward with the exception of a couple of lame episodes. even then, the only bad episode i can remember has been the kate bullshit from a few weeks ago.

i see a lot of dudes complaining about these episodes "filling in stuff we already know" but i wonder if these people are like on all the blogs and websites and podcasts or whatever. as someone who just watches the show and doesn't follow any of the peripheral stuff, i appreciate them filling in backstory and reiterating details. it can be heavy-handed at times but usually i need the reminders. so maybe it's more aimed at the regular, nonobsessive viewer?

Like most of these viral things, it's semi-spoilerish, but also vague. Not as cool as the one with the rabbits, though.

season started really well, been a few dips along the way (i still think most of 'Jughead' sucked) but it's more just little things that annoy like Jack and Kate crapness, whole Aaron thing, random dumb script-writing...of course most of these problems have always been there. i don't think it's panning out too badly.

(this thread is still pretty hardcore compared to people who potentially watch the show and have only that, and no internet, to guide them - for instance I didn't even realize Bram was the same dude from the previous episode)

They're still at the 'what happened?' stage right now and they're working towards the 'why?' stage from now on - especially what the deal is with the Swan. In fairness, we didn't know before that Ben was going to be shot as a child and resurrected as an Other, we didn't know that Widmore had grown up on the Island, those are two pretty huge plot points.

Seeing them punching the numbers on the hatch door was a nice touch though. I hope there's a numbers reveal somewhere in this series.

I don't have any problems at all with this season. Even when there's a weak episode, I try to have a little perspective and remember that this is really just one big 120-hour movie. I'm looking forward to viewing the whole thing over again when the inevitable box set comes out in mid 2010.

Bram is on the Ajira flight, he's on the beach when Locke and Ben are chattin with the shadow of the statue crew.

what sucks about this season is basically

1) theyre taking like 6 episodes to deal with shit that deserves like 1 episode total

2) jack and kate are featured prominently

jack was hardly in last night's. his humble blackboard scrubbing was almost touching tho. too bad he's gonna end up being saviour of them all again.

? it seems there has been way less jack in general and jake/kate relationship b.s. in particular this season ... there definitely hasn't been anymore than there was in past seasons

I like Jack, esp if they keep making him a jerk. I thought he was going to be more like a jerk with Roger and they'd have a big "I'm a jerk" bonding session.

i liked his jerkness in refusing to save kid ben, if only because surgeon jack = zzz

yeah exactly, I like his whole "it doesn't fucking matter, stop doing stuff" thing he's going on. I'm hoping they push him further this way.

Apart from the first couple, Jack tends to figure heavily in the plot at the start and end of each season and disappear for ages in the middle of it. But he's not been in this one THAT much. He's getting more interesting now he's become this faux-hippy "I was sent here for a purpose" figure but mostly because I want to know what the deal is with his dad and Claire and the cabin.

I mean really Sawyer's had more screen time than any of the other characters by a mile but that's cool with me because he's one of the best and he didn't even get a flashback in last season.
